Somehow, when I use my Mozilla browser, (Netscape not functioning for some odd reason) I don't get redirected to the new page. May be a script error that only happens on non-IE browsers.

When using IE to look at these new pages, everything is misaligned anyone else getting this? perhaps cause of IE and the page was done on firefox unless dw discarded that, i know that IE doesn't follow the internet protocol the way it should and firefox follows it to the letter

That is what I was getting.

When you are at the main page of the Forum if you do not hit the refresh button on your browser your browser may just load the old version from cache with the incorrect URL of the Stats Page.

Hit the refresh button on the main page and the correct URL will be loaded.

I just figured it out. I have to hit it on the earlier page, not just that one. Amazing how stupid one can be.

actually, i think it loads everything from the catch but "asks" the website if anything has been changed, and makes the changes accordingly or some such been a while at least IE does i forgot what firefox does

hey guys, just got word on my HD apparently they can't do anything so now i want to ask any of you who know is the cost estimate for data recovery from my local computer shop correct? $1500-$2500? they have to be joking i knew it would cost a lot but it can't cost that much

#4518  by Veteran Grand_Admiral_Thrawn - 8/12/2004 11:18:19 AM

Never asked so I don't know.

That does seem excessive though.

#4519  by Veteran the 3rd child - 8/12/2004 11:26:58 AM

also...if it makes it any more realistic, they can't do data recovery so they dont' stand to gain by lying to me

$1500-$2500 does sound crazy.

If the only problem is a broken pin where the IDE cable plugs into the HD.

I am thinking the Data recovery $1500-$2500 price is when HD get trashed in fires etc...

The connector itself must be cheap and generic. The problem with HDs is they are not really made to be opened and repaired.

yeah i know but before i start moping i guess i should look around, i just want to recover the data on C drive it's only about 7 gigs and transfer that to a new small drive.

Actually, that is about right. I inquired at one time for a similar service and decided that nothing on my C drive was that important.

Here's a thought. Go to a local computer repair shop, a place that sells and repairs computers. Have them make a "pig tail" connector for your drive that allows you to plug your regular bus cable into one end of the pig tail and the other end is a modified connector that connects to your hard drive. That connector has a separate wire comming out the back of the connector that is an extension of the wire of the broken pin. Have them sodler that wire on to the other side of the connector that is part of the drive. Those connections are usually avaiable. This will mean that the pig tail cannot be removed, but that is ok. Alternatively, solder a wire to the back of the connector on the drive with the broken pin and scrap off the insulation of the wire on the pig tail calbe and sotder the wires together at that point. If the wire is kept short, there should be no timeing problems and things should work. Now connect up your drive and transfer all the data and through the old disk away. Or be inquisitive and disect it. You may find it interesting.

The 3rd Child, what is the make and model of this particular hard drive? I would like to look on the web for information about what it does and how it does it.

Thanks
