Sorry, what does "hazing" mean? What are exactly the kind of tips you need? |
|
Well hazing is a sort of initiation the members of an organization give a new member it's usually quite negative and that's the joke not something the diplomats would do unless we could get a laugh out of it from everyone involved.
And like i said the tips i need are what factors make or break your game when playing on maso, ones that i'm looking for are ones like keeping the maso computers warring with each other cause they can draw on far more resources, getting the backing of the most powerful through trade, destroying one early before capital ships are in use, that sort of thing.
| |
|
Hmm, now how would the diplomats conduct hazing....send him to the wrong address for a meeting? |
|
hmmmm how about sending me to not only the wrong meeting but another empires meeting, or how about uhm telling me new members have to invest in the pacifist party and put all buys into diplomacy for the next 5 games? Giving me the wrong mIRC channel?

Sorry, I misread. I saw what i need though are tips |
| and didn't read the rest of that line. Whoops. The best way to keep the AIs at war is to bribe them to attack each other. I actually don't do this much, so I can't offer advice. A lot of that stuff is in the Strategy section on the Diplomats Forum, and in the strategy section here. I think the best guy to ask is Peace Phoenix, because he runs the help section on our forum.
And don't worry about the hazing. We have a bar.

Here are some maso tips:
- first, AI has advantage. You can't compete against them at the beginning of the game. So you need to concentrate on colonizing the most systems you can. With proper spending (100% military and 100% spending rate), you could produce a colony ship every 3 turn
- population is the key. So you need to maintain a 100% morale (at leats on the bigger world) to use the bonus growth of 6% (3% if betwenn 54% and 99%)
- the AI wil beat you in the technology race at the beginning. So you need to research technologies that aren't on the AI top priority in order to be able to make some tech trade
- at maso, don't hope to be able to sell tech to the AI. You won't gain anything signifiant
- try to have the benefit of the diplo translator (build it or acquire the license): a 40% diplo bonus is helpful
- the evil AI will "blackmail" the weak (taking in accound military and economic). And as you want to choose your wars, you better give them some gift (BC over 100 month) in order to make them happy
- it is better to have lots of majors AI that are fighting against each other: you are less likely to be their target . But you need to be sure that AI aren't exterminated, since it will reduce the number of their targets
- When AI are at war, they need money. And trade routes can give money. Guess who would be the lucky one ?
- it is always easier to have the first in military to declare war on weaker.
- militray strengh is based on offensive power. Ships in orbit have bonus. And Anti matter Missile orbiting planets are the bests (maintenance wise) to boost offensive power
That's all for now

And don't worry about the hazing. We have a bar. |

Lol
...you know what's really annoying now how many can relate to this happening : 2 turns (or better yet 1) from an important galactic wonder (in my case we'll say galactic stock exchange) then another race (let's say altarians) beat you too it i don't suppose anyone thinks they know when your close to complete with it do they?

There are something to remember:
- to prevent save/reload abuse, each time a game is reloaded, AI initiate diplomatic exchange (which could bring a drenging asking for contribution) and there is an opportunity for them to rush buy trade goods/ wonder
- as long as you are the only one with a tech, nobody can build the project associated.
- spying can help you to know what AI are researching
- it could be useful to make a 100% social spending run when building trad goods / wonder

bingo that's what i'm looking for and ought to be helpful, although most of those (but not all i have read or decided for myself) i wonder how playing by machiavelli's rules would work here...for instance one thing he says to do is to reduce the power of the strongest and increase the power of the weakest (usually more then the strongest) and be allied with them, that way it keeps a balance going it makes the weak stronger making them easier to deal with for only the minimal side effect of making the weaker stronger (wow sort of confusing) which is most likely your allies anyway...oh wait nevermind that's already practiced if you consider the minors as the weak and the major's as the strong
| |
|
So you need to research technologies that aren't on the AI top priority in order to be able to make some tech trade |
|
is there a list compiled somewhere that tells you what the tech priority is for the computer?
Oh is it a good idea to check the trade routes of major and minor races and try to convince them to war on there trading parteners...at least before they are getting huge amounts of revenue from them?
Are they more willing to trade technology if it's something that could improve there standing in an area there not very strong in?

I forgot one thing:
Avoid allying with anyone: you don't want to be drag into war. Just play the neutral guy that give guns to both sides and make effort to be sure that the wars will last until you took over the galaxy
| |
|

Not really. The thing to know is that they concentrated on the path to capital ship. So they tend to avoid yellow and green tech. But they will grab all weapon tech and some defense tech. A good rule is: if one major AI has it , the others will research/ exchange for it on reload.
And tech on path to capital ships are generally expensive to obtain at the bargaining table. This work in the other ways, but there are small chances that you will be able to research it before half of the major AI.

Ah this is all great stuff here, hmmm i'm ready to go face them now! *charges off to win a maso game*...uh what's the opposite of winning?
| |
|
Another advice:
for an easier game at maso, pick the populist party (+20 diplo, +20 moral), the speed pick (+1, useful to beat the AI to planet). You might want to play on tight cluster to increase your defense (lots of empty sector) and avoid cultural flipping of your planets to the AI.

Thanks for all the tips Peace Phoenix i think i'll try maso as soon as i finish my current game and i'll let you guys know how it goes, or maybe you'll see it before i get a chance to who knows .

For information: I have posted theses tips in the Help and Support section of the Senate Halls

anyone know if there's a reason why the computer will just give you lower level technologies sometimes?
i mean considering your a player they can't really improve relations with you...

Wrong. They are trying to keep you at peace with them. Looks like your are in the top civilizations. .
Why would attack a civilization that is offering tribute?
And I would add that when they come to offer you a trade, it is always better for you than if you were truing to do the same (if you refuse the trade and propose it, it will be yellow)

Well almost everything
The Diplomats do have our European members, such as Peace Phoenix and our emperor Spellforce and at least one member in Asia (anya157 - if she ever deigns to visit again - her first galciv game remains uncompleted actually).
