That's pretty funny. And believable.

Why since only 2000? They've been doing that ever since Dewey won the '48 U.S. Presidential election!

I know but I just used the most recent fiasco.

And true, I'm afraid... darkly true.

That's true democracy for you.

How many actually vote in American elections?
Just curious.

In 2000, the turnout was 51% of the voting age public. the voter turnout has been improving with time.

Thanks. It's good to see it improving.

Good turnout for local elections is 20% around here.

Local elections are always a bit sad. It is usually just me and a bunch of senior citizens.

However, there is a good drive to get younger people more interested in voting in this country (USA). In time, that is improving.

Well, local elections around here are much worse of course. Maybe 20% would be even generous.

And what is it in Australia? It's much higher I suppose...

I'm one of the few my age (22) that votes in the small ones.

I was one of the few that went and voted for the primaries here in Tennessee, and I also voted early. Which probably made me the only teenager to do so.

They are trying to get voter turnout higher. Somebody is running this huge campaign to try to get 18-24 year olds to vote with the slogan "18 million voted last time, what could have happened if say 20 million voted?" so they are going to try to get young voter turnout up about 10%. It is still way too low though.

And what could have happened if say 20 million voted?

Ehhh...I'm not sure I like to think about that. IMHO, Bush is bad enough, but with Gore, I don't want to think about that.

Yethh Masther Al Gore will ruin the country

Glad to see some of the younger folk rarin to vote. Of course, I'm not that old...(32).

Never missed a general election. I follow the premise of "if you don't vote, don't complain". I usually skip the primaries, unless there is a heated battle for some of the local, state or House of Representatives seats. Here in Virginia, primaries for federal offices are a bit silly in that registered voters from any party can vote in the opposing party's primary. Silly.

If you mean the 'watch-this-thread' function, mine works sporadically, at best....

That's a good thing, and people specifically californians if you vote against giving the government greater freedom in raising taxes, then don't F******* complain when our budget deficit grows bigger! After all what's the governments number on source of income?

Sorry just had to get that off my chest.

That is odd. Is Virginia the only state that does this?
