the last game took around 40 hours to complete.
Had two CTDs and then had to set it to save every turn, which slowed things considerably
Each save on Gigantic takes about one minute.

You could do the same thing than me: play on smaller map and set autosave every 4 turns.

And I forget to add: disable all options that make turns long: follow autopilot ships, follow aliens ships, show ships damage, show aliens battle, show explosion.
