sadly my processor is a pentium 4 not a pentium 3
| |
|
|
how do i have a pentium 4 over a 3 or, how's it sad?
uhm if it's the former it's because i bought it that way, and i don't feel like buying and changing the processor?
And for the latter:
According to the guys at the Main Parts Distributor my friend went to in Sacramento, California when he went to buy the hardware for his custom they told him the pentium 3 was the best of the series in reliability and performance, regardless of 4's higher specs...sort of like how windows 98 and 2000 were good and xp is well let me put it this way

Sure, and there are still folks who claim that turntables and vinyl beat digital hands down (See: Link) but it doesn't mean I will listen to their advice next time I upgrade my home stereo system!

Gotta keep moving forward. You're a bit young to get caught up in the retro technology thing...

slothrop you have to be joking about that or else if i wasn't already a cynical atheist, the things you've said about newer being better would have blasted me into becoming one!
But in all seriousness my 3 main problems with xp
1. It's slow anyone who has worked on 98 or 2000 or non-microsoft OS's will know what i'm talking about.
2. Error Prone almost as bad as 95 was with errors nuff' said.
3. If you try to copy or move windows components (this would most likely be on accident) they (well i'm not sure exactly what it is) but they restrict access till you contact them and tell them what you were doing with the windows components you were moving.

All good points. Just don't hang onto Windows 2000 until Microsoft sunsets it, eh? It would be better to become a Linux or Mac guy than to be running on an unsupported platform. Not that Windows 2000 is unsupported now... but that day is coming...

|
oh i know, i thought you meant differen't, in the event that microsoft releases something better then xp, that proves it's at least as good as 2000 or 98, (preferrably not based on the nt platform ), i will take it, and actually right now i have xp cause 1. i would rather "acquire" 2000 or 98 with little or no money, 2. i am using almost 60% of my 100 gb, and there's no way going to take the chance that it'll make me lose many of my files on change.
but other then that more power to the future!

I loved '98. Best system Microsoft ever made. XP is a piece of s***. Don't know if any of you used ME, but that was actually worse than XP. That thing would not run for 10 minutes without blowing itself up. Never used 2000, but I never heard anything good about it.
| |
|
well the best thing about 2000 that i know of and the biggest thing is it wasn't slow or error prone, plus it was sort of is a xp/98 hybrid less speed and reliablity for more options like the newer incarnation, and one more thing, FINALLY! SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE EVILS OF XP, hmmmmm does it only take those who were born into the current part of the information age to know these things, abt?

I guess it takes evil to know evil.

Hi guys, bit quiet over at Raven's claw, so thought I'd drop in
I think you've got to realise that *any* Microsoft OS is a bag of s*** out of the box. You've really got to get inside it and make it work better for your hardware.
I run all my games on an old ME system - AMD1.4Ghz, 256Mb RAM that I built myself. It runs perfectly, and can cope with full res, max frame rate on any game that exists for the PC today.
As for XP, haven't tried XPHome, but use XPPro, and that is as solid as a rock as long as you tune it properly. There is just so much crap floating around in the registry from a vanilla install Also, if you buy a PC with OS pre-installed, you'll find they've installed every unnecessary component under the sun. Get hold of a CD, wipe the system , and start again!

my turn
P4 2.0 Ghz, 768 MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro AGP graphics, 18 gig HDD (looking to add a 40 gig) XP
I haven't had any real problems with XP
I did have problems with ME so I upgraded to XP

Oooh. A 9700! I want one! Actually, I want a 9800, but they are what, $300? Too much for me.

Hmm...I have a 64mb 8500 that I paid 300 for....

I still have a 4x CDROM around here somewhere that I paid $400 for.
Don't even ask how much my first floppy drive was.
