Not really. Everytime I think I can sit down to start one, some crisis comes up and I never get started. I keep think about it though. Maybe this weekend... but now that spring is here I have all this yard work and yada, yada, yada...

You can see where this is going right.

Oh well... I'll keep trying.

The only one that you people mentioned: Saving game, Ctrl U, Ctrl N...rinse and repeat until finding an ideal starting point. I use to do this the old fashioned way of spending about an hour playing the game and realizing I was in a hopeless situation. This method certainly speeds things up.

One thing I notice, I never and I mean NEVER finish a game before 2200. Not that it is for a lack of trying, because I do not know how you people do it especially when I see comments about coasting until 2190. However I did upgrade to 1.49 so maybe this might have played a part in it.

It was asked how difficulty shield is calculated.

It looks to me the statbot is off alittle because it counts all games. The metaverse does not count all games played.

If you target an alliance victory, you just need to have enough stuff to bribe them. If there are at neutral status, you need to bribe them 2 times. One to move theme to friendly, and another, few turns fater to move them to close. Since AIs can be at war, I feel safer to move all of them to close first, and then ally with all of them

True all you have to have in 2190 is contact with all the major races and enough cash and tech to bribe them to be allies.
