Sirian,
I invited you accross the line? I merely asked what Chretien said that was so offensive. I got a lot more than the example I was expecting.
Anyway, I don't want to continue this conversation here, I get the feeling it makes some people uncomfortable, nor do I really want to discuss it with you anyway.
Maybe I wasn't clear. I don't like Jean Chretien, and I never even in fact stated whether I supported my country's decision or not to help in Iraq. I merely defended it's decision. That's two different things in my mind.
I will defend, until the day I die, the right of the Canadian Government to choose it's own foreign policy. We will always make our own way in the world, and it won't always agree with your country.
You do realize we're still trading with Cuba after about 40 years of an American trade embargo don't you? Just another area we don't agree.
Perhaps it would comfort you to know, although the government's position on Iraq was rather absolute, the people's were not. In the weeks leading up to the war, Canada was split about 55-45 against. However, Quebec (again the French love you!) was very strongly against, and if you discount that, the country was pretty much split 50-50. Once the war started, and the Americans started suffering casualties, the number of people who wanted to go rose even more. As much as we disagreed with what you were doing, it was very difficult to watch TV and see your brother, and friend dying.
The anti-americanism in Canada, and I won't deny it does exist because it does, is more like a rivalry thing. There's probably some jealousy as well. It is NOT hatred!
If American believe Canada or Canadians hate them, then they are terribly mistaken. Annoyed, dissappointed, upset, maybe. It is not hatred.
I agree with Damoose, I found your posts went from a friendly conversation to offensive and rude rather quickly, and that's why I'm asking us to stop this conversation. Maybe we are misunderstanding you. I don't want to lay any blame, I just want the conversation to stop in this thread. Create a new thread for it, and those who want to read it, can go there and do so.
Thank you.
