If someone wants to take the emperor position, I think an email to Frogboy can arrange that. I think the Euros did something like that.

Indeed. (Apologies to the Jedi.) The original emperor of the Euros was Impune Lacessit. G-Force took over some time late last summer, I believe. Cari could probably do it for you with a couple of mouse clicks. It just wouldn't seem like GalCiv without undead Canucks...

I feel the same way about that. After being chansed by damoose for being a snack, it wouldn't be any fun anymore.
So who's gearing up to watch some puck? (hockey)

I just posted my first MASO win. Did it on Tiny/rare. It was one of the easiest and hardest games I have played so far. Took me almost 4 hours.
Gave me a nice boost in the metaverse.

No, I don't necessarily want the CSF to dissappear |

Ray the Wanderer has retired and almost never posts anymore and he is still the big boss. Why don't you stay on as emperor. You do not need to be active!

My Tiny/MASO game
jmgarth posted an update to the Tiny/MASO walkthru located here.
Link
I pretty much followed jmgarth's strategy. I will make some changes the next time I play. My first game was basically a test to make sure that I could do it.
I selected Populist party and then full diplomacy and as much morale as I could. I think that I had 1 point go to influence as well. The game was Tiny/Rare/Tight and MASO.
I traded my techs for AI techs and influence points. I never traded diplomacy techs although the AI usually ended up with them sometime after I already had them. I did trade for a few freighters during the game which helped out later on.
I never made any military although much later in the game I acquired some from planets that just flipped.
As soon as I got Trade I made freighters and sent them out. I eventually sent one to everyone. But I made sure that one of the first went to the AI that appeared to be the strongest. This was hard to do because I would normally never send a freighter to the strongest. When playing crippling I would buffer the weak AI with trade.
I had good relations with all AI because of freighter trade and I would try to give tech trades that favoured the AI. I almost always asked for some influence point in a trade but I would only take 3/4 of the max I could take. I am not sure if this had the effect of a better trade for the AI or not.
The surprising result of trading techs, freighter trade and no military was I was at 100% spending most of the game and I was reducing my tax rate to keep the people happy. At one point my taxes were at 23%, spending 100% with only 5 trade routes that were not maxed out and I was still raking in over 200BC per turn. I could not spend it fast enough.
There was only a small number of times that I had to give techs away to improve relations.
I was able to research some Trade goods but I had to trade for diplomatic trade good and a few others.
I did bribe war twice to reduce the power of the strongest AI. The second time I had to intercede to keep him alive.
My area for improvement would be to set my military spending higher to build constructors faster. It was quite late in the game before I started flipping majors.
Also, I think that later in the game I could build some military and take out an undefended major.
I was behind in military the whole game and I would never have been a factor in a war. I was behind in tech only in the last 3/4 of the game because I had my military spending set higher but at that point it did not matter. The only tech I was behind during most of the game was ship tech. I was usually 2 or 3 generations out of date.
So the game was fairly easy as long as you concentrate on staying out of the war but it was harder for me because I am usually very aggressive. I plan to tweak this strategy so I can be more aggressive earlier.

To further recap.
In previous attempts I have had no success with MASO mostly because I still tried to be a military factor in the game.
Because of this I had fewer good techs to trade with the AI. This meant that most of the AI were neutral and relations were going south.
I think that the key to MASO is the Tech trade and freighter trade.

For information: the above walkthrough corresponds (to a certain extent) to games I play, a no military game on MASO. It works on gigantic map with some cavecats:
- on gigantic rare with tight cluster, don't hope to cultural flip the whole galaxy as they are lots of empty sectors
- it is easier on gigantic map to put an alliance victory than a military one

and my friends wonder why i don't participate in Empire discussions |

I think you need to expand your statement a bit. We would appreciate your input on the game/strategy or any other sillyness that goes on here.

Paguma, we would like you around and value your input.
If Damoose and you are both slowing your contributions to the CSF then perhaps disbanding it is the way to go.
I like the idea that the diplomats are using. If you stay active you stay in the empire. I do not know their definition of "active" is though.
When I left the ANZACS it was because they were stagnating and the empire topics were no longer of interest to me. I find my self contemplating leaving the CSF because it essentially has 1 active player left (me). I do enjoy the topics though and that is really the only reason I have stayed.
I stand by what I said yesterday, that if you disbanded most team members would not know because they either have stopped playing or play so infrequently why would they care?
If I was made emperor I would boot everyone off the team that has not contributed in the last 3 months either to the game or the thread. My feeling is that you do not have to play to be a team member you just have to contribute.

We consider active to be posting in the forums, or posting two games a month.
