Well looks like tonight Canada will go to a Liberal majority, to a tiny Liberal minority, which means we get to waste another 25 million in 6-9 months. Especially since it looks like the Bloc Quebecois will hold the balance of power.

Your tax dollars at work!

I am hoping for conservitive minority. Better yet would be to take the conservitives, liberals and NDP put them in the blender mix at high speed until done, throw in some truth serum and then skim the good parts off and chuck out the rest.

I like a bit from each party. However I do not like any of the leaders ... Well Harper may be the best leader but I don't trust a word that comes out of any of them.

Paguma where are you voting? I am in the Windsor, ont area.

Well I voted this morning here in BC outside of Vancouver. Our votes don't usually count for much. Soon as our polls close we here who Ontario has elected as goverment, so they don't even have to bother counting our votes.

At least this election looks different and our votes might matter. I think the West will be pretty much be a Conservative sweep.

I hope for a minority either way because we will have another election within a year and it is the closest thing to a real deomocracy that this country ever gets to. We elect a dictator for 4 years in a majority goverment.

I voted in Ottawa-Orleans. Our new MP will almost certainly be Conservative, breaking a 16 year Liberal rule. If the Conservatives did pull off a win, he'd be a shoe in for a minister's post, and maybe even Finance Minister. He's the former head of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

Well I voted this morning here in BC outside of Vancouver.

Not this year! We'll be waiting for you!

I guess that depends on what we define as West. Is West, west of Ontario, or the mountains? Is BC going to elect mostly Conservatives? It didn't seem that way in the polls. Not so sure of what's going to happen in Manitoba and Saskatchewan either. I don't get enough info about their regional views to get a good idea. All I can tell you is that the only area that looks set to elect predominantly Liberals is Atlantic Canada. They're still smarting from the preceived slap to the face from Harper two years ago.

Yeah, but I'm not sure I want the NDP feeding the Liberals ideas to maintain power either. I think that might be worse than a Liberal majority! Then we get the worse of both of them!

That is scary. What did you think when Martin said to the NDP supporters "We share the same values." I don't share to many values with any NDP'er. I work for a living and think otthers should to.

I work for a living and think others should to.

Well said.

Oh, I have to be careful about that statement in the area I am in though. Remember, Windsor is car manufacturing country with Detroit across the river.

Well, it's been a while since I uncloaked and came out of the shadows in the Graveyard. But, fortunately, I have lost no body parts to undead due to my diligence.

(Gerakken keeps a careful eye on the residents.)

Hmmm. The beer and nachos look so good! Should I? No moose or ghouls or such seem around right now. Better keep on my toes just in case.

Slight political rant:

Oh, and as for election madness in Canada, at least you guys have got more than two parties that have any real power to choose from. Us poor Americans have been brainwashed that it is either party A or party B, else you are throwing your vote away. Of course, that never stopped me from supporting Ross Perot back in the 90's, or writing in Colin Powell last time. Heck, I vote for people, not parties. Best person in the field gets my vote. If neither the Democrat or the Republican passes my muster, I move on to someone else who is more acceptable. Yet one would be surprised how many people blindly vote straight tickets still. Amazing.

Marijuana Party

Is this an oxymoron, or a double entendre?

Real party, they just have trouble getting their vote out. Members tend to be a little paranoid and forgetful. Great munchies at the meetings though.

ROFL

Well, the US has a few funny parties. Look them up, for some reason I can't think of any right now.

More or less the same thing here. We have 3 parties (outside of Quebec) that have any real chance of getting elected, other than a few strange cases. Even then, they try to tell you you're wasting your vote if you don't vote for one of the main two.

Also, if you think we really have 3 choices, keep in mind, one of them is a doppleganger that changes it's stance on issues based on the latest polls.

I've said all along that Stephen Harper would not do well in Atlantic Canada.

Although, losing 1 seat is better than I expected.

I just hope the reduction in popular vote is not a sign for Ontario. We shall see in 30 minutes.

#3489  by Citizen Evil Druid - 6/28/2004 9:25:36 PM

Looks like Ontario went Liberal. What does a goverment have to do before Ontarians throw them out. It is so fustrating.

#3490  by Citizen Paguma - 6/28/2004 9:27:48 PM

Stephen Harper, or whoever leads the Conservatives next time has got to realize that social conservatism doesn't fly in the East. That's what killed them. Even though it wasn't part of their platform, their inability to squash it, and the fact they were in favour of it, lead to a lot of the fear.

I am a fiscal conservative, I am not a social conservative. I voted conservative in the hopes of throwing the Liberal weasels out, but alas they scared away all the soft conservatives.

Just found out, our guy in Ottawa-Orleans lost too. Then people will complain that no good people run for office... When they do, we don't elect them...

The only people talking about a social conservative agenda was the Liberals in thier scare tactics. The conservative secret hidden agenda is a nothing but liberal election strategy. The media knows where their bread is buttered so they bought into it and spread the lies. Just like the conservatives were going to buy 2 aircraft carriers.

Yes, but it doesn't help when a lot of the party including the Leader of that party does believe in the social conservatism, even if it's not part of their platform.

Maybe in 2 years from what I heard. The Liberals have there stooges the NDP to back them up in parliment. Between the two groups the liberals can muster more than 155 seats.

I hate living in Toronto, voters are morons.

#3496  by Citizen Paguma - 6/29/2004 7:49:42 AM

I'm dissappointed in my riding. We had a tremendous candidate in our riding, and instead they stayed with tradition and voted in the monkey with a red tie.

I hate living in Toronto, voters are morons.

I heard someone put up a sign in Toronto that read "Vote Liberal. It's easier than thinking."

#3497  by Citizen NewfyScotian - 6/29/2004 9:19:34 AM

"Vote Liberal. It's easier than thinking."

Ain't that the truth. My mother lives in N.S. I talked to her last night and said that the people living on either side of her have always voted Liberal, their families vote Liberal. The even complain about the liberal stupidity and high taxes. They can't fathom voting anything but red.

My mother caused a huge controversy in the area because she called the green party and had a sign put out on the lawn.

At least in my area no liberals got in but that is mostly because Windsor area is heavily unionized and the automotive industry never gets a promise of subsidies from the Liberals.

Liberal Party of Canada 135
Conservative Party of Canada 99
Bloc Québécois 54
New Democratic Party 19
No affiliation 1 Chuck Cadman next store to my riding is a conservative/reformer member

Liberals and NDP only equal 154. Takes 155 for a majority. This is going to be interesting. I think the Conservatives have got to make firm promises on there social agenda for the next election. Just saying we will allow free votes is not good enough for Ontario, they are not use to having a democracy.

Don't forget someone has to be speaker who can only vote in the event of a tie as I recall.
