I've been using OD stuff for years now. And over the last couple of years or so it's really come into it's own. I think XP had a lot to do with it. Finally supplied the underlying support required to really allow OD to shine.

I been using OD components on and off for years.

Here is my two cents.

DesktopX does no matter what the documention says slow down my computer.

The other problems I have with DesktopX is components which I load somehow over time disappear stop loading.

Also I find desktopX just to complicated. Object IDs and all sorts of wierd parameters which I care nothing for.

IconX seems to work ok but for some reason some icons do not get skinned.

Objectbar, I really do not see any purpose for this program. I think Objectbar 2.0 will not be and objectdecktop component.

Windowblinds is the best OD program but even windowblinds in not perfect. One of my machines is a 800Mhz PIII and it maybe my imagination but when I run windowblinds the machine seems slightly slower.

What is not my imagination is sometime text in dropboxes I find obscured when running a windowblinds skin.

GH, Newfy, your discussion hits home as I have wanted an easy way to compare games at the same size, difficulty and version number. As you know, the version differences affect scoring greatly. I don't know who else plays huge, maso, 1.21 so I just have my own games for comparison.

That's a tough one. When Alex was around, he could run custom queries against the statbot data. I just happen to know about Mag trying the maso medium because I was trying to see how far I could push crip medium. I've managed 55K+ so far, but these scores are from AP v1.49

I just want to let every one know that I have applied to the CSF as Activities and Social Director. Perhaps at the very least I can be janitor and clean up after Damoose's snacking ...

You're hired. Nobody else wants to clean up after damoose.

I seem to be going into another inactive phase. I tried playing GalCiv several times last week but got so frustrated by the AI that's just rediculously war mongering that I gave up.

I'm back to playing WarCraft 3 again.

It's actually quite unusual that GalCiv stayed active as long as it did. The fact that it's slowing down 1.5 years after release is not that surprising.

Things will pick up with GalCiv 2 in the new year anyway.

True... But I think that has more to do with the video card/drivers than anything else now days.

The other problems I have with DesktopX is components which I load somehow over time disappear stop loading

Well I know they made big changes between 1 and 2. But so far with 2 I haven't had a problem. Granted I haven't bee running the stuff for very long.

Also I find desktopX just to complicated. Object IDs and all sorts of wierd parameters which I care nothing for.

Yes that's true... If you want to do your own stuff. But the widgets are OK. You just load 'em and you don't need to know anything.

IconX seems to work ok but for some reason some icons do not get skinned

Haven't seen that... yet.

Objectbar, I really do not see any purpose for this program

Ha! Agreed.

Windowblinds is the best OD program but even windowblinds in not perfect

Yup.

What is not my imagination is sometime text in dropboxes I find obscured when running a windowblinds skin

Yes... some of the skins are not that tight. I currently have only one skin on my box call neOS. Seem to be pretty good.

I do like CursorXP which I run all the time and have since it was released. THe latest one I like is ObjectDockPlus. Pretty slick particularly with some of the docklet stuff that's available.

Paguma, is your applet in an inactive phase as well? I've tried to get there for a few days now, but can't. It is most excellent and I hope it is still going to be available (please, please, please )

I am starting to use your applet as well. Any chance of posting it on the CSF website?

I have it but it reminds me of something else I hate about Objectdesktop.

Buy OD and you expect to see all programs.

CursorXP here is freeware "limited Edition" want the plus version it will cost more.

The Stardock Web Page has ObjectDock Plus want it pay more.

Want good content like ToonXP, that fish desktop pay more.

Want extra down capacity or a better way to surf for skins pay more.

When OD was orginally made available it was one price for all components now it is one price for some components.

True. But I still use 'em so I pay for 'em. I think I'm getting more for my toonie than if I had to go hunt down all the functionality so...

I assume you're talking about my servlet? I was thinking of banning access to anyone not in the CSF.

I don't think I can move it to the CSF website because it's a servlet, but I could move a link to it to the CSF.

You've probably noticed my web site is a little flaky lately. My DSL modem is having some serious issues. It seems to lose connection twice a week now. Very frustrating. My ISP is looking into it.

Congrats. I assume you manage to build lots of TG. Have you used some mods to have more TG to build?

BTW, what are, from your experience about reaching 60K, things that have help to achieve 60K?

Thats a good question, I usually try and play the game as fast as I can. That means I invade planets that are at war with an AI and that are about to loose that planet.

I try to flip the Alexians always, but invade if they are about to loose. Any minor that randomly appears gets invaded by me right away.

I have a method of research and social building that allows me to build all the Tradegoods.

I do not play any mods except the research party inc.

This game was slightly different though. Militarily I was extremely weak compared to the powerhouse Altarians and the Arceans who were almost as strong.

I actually had the game played 2 days ago with just these 2 AI left. Yesterday I played the game off and on all night because I was watching TV so I was not in a rush. I decided to go through the tech tree which is something I haven't done for awhile.

I couldn't touch the AI so I built 5 TS and slowly took over the Altarians. Then as I was going through the tech tree I built all the TG that came up and concentrated on 100% morale. Four new AIs popped up and I took over each and rush bought all the social buildings for each planet just to get their population going.

I did build about 8 excalibars and wiped out any Arcean starbase and ship that was in my galaxy. Then I sold all but 2 off. I stayed at war until they were flipped.

As I was researching the last tech I just moved the TS into range and flipped the Arceans.

Game over. 60K.

I may have been at 60K for some time but as to a particular strategy ... maxed out the tech tree and tried to max out the population got all the wonders and tradegoods.
