Greetings Gentlemen,
Thanx for the welcome in the other thread damoose
I have heard of this game for a while now (at least a couple of years) but never was interested enough to do the whole online ordering thing. As it turns out I saw GC:Deluxe Edition yesterday when I was checkin out EB games. I decided to snag it.
I don't have enough free time to be a chronic a gamer as I was in my youth but hopefully I should be able to put up a few wins. I have basically just been farting around with the game for a couple hours here and there but now I find myself with about 4 hrs to get my feet wet in my first serious attempt.
GC:AP Expansion
Party: Pacifist (NDP)
Abilities:
Influence +30
Planet Quality +5
Luck +25
Creativity +25
Large - Scattered - Common
All winning conditions active
All 7 races active at sub-normal intelligence.
Difficulty = Beginner
Hopefully I wont get crushed too quickly
I'll give an update later tonight.
Sincerely,
RTDouglas

One hint: find the minor civilizations ASAP. Once they are found, trade techs with them even if the trade is two for one and even 3 for 1 depending on tech. Also when proposing a trade, the text in the middle is yellow if the trade is unaccceptable and turns green when the AI will accept the trade. This will save you a lot of time.
Good luck.

Thank you for the advise Moser it is greatly appreciated Unfortunately I must have turned off minor races when I was goofing around and forgot to put it back on when I started
Well so far things seem to be going ok, although I am probably not being aggressive enough. I am 1st or 2nd in most areas and my economy is really humming along now with max trade routes. The strongest race is one of the evil guys and slowly they are starting to dislike me. I can see myself allying with the other 2 "good guys" soon and then I guess the battle begins. I recieved this awesome battleship explorer ship and 2 turns later I had a CTD Needless to say my last autosave was before so that kinda sucked. My influence bonuses have been kind of nice and I think have helped alot.
Anyway, time for bed, I work early so hopefully I can wrap up my first game tomorrow and give a final report. Thanx again sir, any advice from a player of your obvious experience and abilities is gold
RT... Glad you could drop in... Welcome to the Crypt.
So a couple of things to try with that evil race... You can give them BCs. A little over time is better than one lump sum. You can also give them ships or trade goods or...
If you don't have a trade route to them... get one.
Take care in your aliances... Once one of you allies goes to war... So do you.
Read through the Strategy forum. Look for anything on maso strategies. While you're not palying at that level... yet... the techneques described can be used at any level on play.
Manage your build queues effectively. Don't build everything just because you can... build what's important... PQ boosters like soil enhancement, morale boosters early on, economic boosters.
Watch your morale early in the game. Early on you want it as high as possible 100% because that double your population growth... More pop means more taxes. morale is not so importatnt mid and late game becasue theres a growth cap that you'll reach around 3 bill I think. (Anyone who knows for sure please correct me... Peace????)
Anyway... have fun, because that's what it's all about.
By the way I assume you've install Stardock Central and updated to the latest patches... right?
Last day at work before Christmas break... so I'll be a little scare over the next two weeks or so. I hope to get to drop by everyday... But the Mrs. Da Moose... she's got plans you know?

Look at this thread Link
The cap is a growth of 200 millions in one turn. Depending of your empire pop growth bonus, it correspond to different pop size for getting this cap with less than 100% morale

Anyway sorry its taken so long to update my 1st game. Thanx again for all the advise. Heck if I didn't read so many posts I'd probably BE done by now
Sincerely,
RTDouglas
RT... no worries. Take your time, enjoy the game. No one here is in a big rush... At least no more of a rush than you impose upon yourself. The only real rule is 'Play for fun'.
THe CSF is a quite empire with myself the only Overlord to regularly visit. (Although I'm Christmas holiday at the moment so subject to the Mrs. Da Moose's wishes. )
If you've got question drop on by... And don't be shy about droping into the other empre threads either. They are all very friendly and helpful.

how does an undead thread die? I will revive it by looking around the cript for leftover snacks. Nothing. Whoever was here last clean out the place, even took the moose heads off the wall and threw them in the trash. Shame. I will put them back. There. Looks better.
Merry Christmas eveyone.

Greetings,
Well I finally finished my first game and it is now registered. I recieved 7664 points which Im sure is kinda low but hey its a start eh
It was an alliance victory with myself and 3 others. I learned alot during the game and as I got closer to the inevitable triumph a part of me thought maybe I should scrap this game and play a harder one to start. However, I am a very honest guy and I figured there is no shame in my beginner level first game. Besides, how else am I supposed to judge just how far I've come when I eventually do post that monster win
Thanx again for the advise, which I shall now use in a tougher game. BTW do we have a specific spot where we can have a running commentary on a game, or is this the place? I simply do not want to post updates in this thread if it will only clutter things
You can post a running commentary hear or over at the embassy. And like FC said 'no such thing as clutter'.
WooT!
So now that I've got some time off... and the arrival of our new Overlord RTDouglas... I decided to have a go at a game... Just over 49k for a large-crip-alliance. I haven't decided if I am going to submit it though. It was a long, long, long game. just cannot seems to break the habit.
