Ah, we're now only 8000 nehind RB. Of course, soon they will likely notice and get one of the aforementioned people without a life submitting two 60,000 point games a day again!

Probably not, unless Jaxom decides to do so. He might still be trying to move up/maintain his place on the leader boards. The rest of us are too busy having fun playing SGs to care much about meta scoring...

Quick question for anyone who wants to answer it:
Is it possible to get an alliance with the Yor or the Drengin or is it just difficult? Does your alignment enter into the equations the same way it does when trying to ally with the Altarians?

Thanks in advance...

It is possible. Do you change the alignments from the defaults?

#653  by Citizen Vir Cotto - 2/27/2004 10:36:27 PM

Nope, I left those as they were.

Your alignment is important.

Evil allies with evil, good with good but
this is only a factor. You need good relations to
get an alignment, and for example if you are pure good
and the alien is pure evil it will be hard to get good
relations.

If you have the required good relations,
the next requirement is both sides need alliance tech.

The final requirement is you have to be seen as a good ally
to the other race.

My current game I am friends with two races, have good relations with two.

I could ally with the races that I have good relations with but I would get sucked into a war. One of the races I am friends with is at war with the other 3 races.

I could likely win it is late in the game not alot to research and some planets are coughing up overloards every 5 turns but I do not like war.

Vir Cotto,

How you like the game so far ?

I know the game can be tough.
All my early games were on easy levels but I had fun
and was challenged.

Getting humbled on normal and lowwer levels I could of sworn Maso players cheat. Guess what in a way they do.

I see the game you submitted was played with and older version of GC. You should be able to get 1.2

#656  by Veteran Grand_Admiral_Thrawn - 2/27/2004 11:41:26 PM

I wouldn't call it cheating. I am working on my second obscene, and I only got control of one sector a few turns ago (it is a few years in). The first couple of years are about surviving.

OOPs I mean close

in a way

That is why I said in a way.

Many things that are done to win a maso game I doubt are strategies the developers had in mind.

The rigid formula that need to be followed.
Colony rush,
rush for a few critical techs
then the trade phase.

Getting massive amounts cash or techs but some type of trades.

Strategies such as winning with massive amounts of Party Place or Terror Stars are clear examples.

Technician,

Thanks for the advice, I managed to turn the game I was losing into a victory. I did upgrade the game to 1.2 and am just getting use to the changes. I am enjoying the game significantly. Personlly I think it's the best turn based strategy to come out since MOO2 (I hope I'm not dating myslef to badly there)

Congrats on the win

I still have a copy of MOO2

WELL THE DAY HAS COME

I have put aside the bottle & the sheep:D . Yet I know longer feel content with all this goodness in the "Masoverse", so I have left the to enbrace the darkness as the "Democracy of One"

"Welcome to the Madness"

Nice one.

Like the Technician says there is a 'formula' for those first few years...

Colony rush, tech rush then trade. As you move up difficulty those few years get shorter and shorter as the AI bonuses get larger. At Maso they turn into months rather than years.

And you have read through the RB succession games... right?

Finding the 'sweet' spot where you change from one to the other is key.

Diplo Relationships are affected by many things... alignment, military might, manufacturing, trade, yada, yada, yada. With the 'Good' civs you need to be 'Good' as well if you want to ally. With the Evil civs, I've found miltary and influence to be the key factors. After all they are 'Evil' and are just waiting to bring you close and then slip a knife between your ribs.

At least from the 'Good' perspective you'd need to ask an 'Evil' player like Lothmorag or ABT if that holds true from the 'Evil' perspective. Of course if your playing 'Evil' then I think the motto is "Kill 'Em All".

Actually I think the colony rush and tech trade was expected by the developers. As for getting money for the techs, I never did that anyway.

You forgot to include building so many party palaces you can absorb the entire galaxy.

Quick question for anyone who wants to answer it:Is it possible to get an alliance with the Yor or the Drengin or is it just difficult? Does your alignment enter into the equations the same way it does when trying to ally with the Altarians?

Even if you are good, it is still possible to form alliances with the evil races. It will take more trading, more gifts, etc... to get them to close relations. But you only need them to be close for one turn so you can form the alliance, then it doesn't matter anymore. I've never seen anybody break an alliance unless you refused to help them in a battle.

I wonder what your favourite new minor race is?
I thought, and no way I am going to spell the name the Kwailsain was really funny.

Damoose: How am I evil? Kill 'em All is my motto, as but I like good better. I just can't ignore those PQ bonuses. But I like good: as you said, only here can killing billions of sentient being be called pure good.

#669  by Citizen Paguma - 2/28/2004 3:26:13 PM

I just can't ignore those PQ bonuses.

That's usually how I end up Chaotic Good. I find those difficult to pass up. One game I was evil during the colonial phase of the game, but went full circle and made it back to good before the end.

#670  by Veteran Grand_Admiral_Thrawn - 2/28/2004 3:49:49 PM

I play the little maps and never get enough bonuses after those and never get back. The most events I have ever gotten on a small map was around 5, and on a medium, around 10. Just never enough for me for some reason.

#671  by Veteran Grand_Admiral_Thrawn - 2/28/2004 3:50:43 PM

Oh, and only here can reaching a better plane of existance be called pure evil.

Damoose: How am I evil?

Sorry... Yellow. The colour is yellow. Doh. Apologies. My fingers were typing faster than my brain. Ya, ya... I know.
