It's all wrapped up in morale. The higher the morale the higher the taxes. Add to that any trade you are doing and or any of the tech sales to the minors and you can be running high taxes and huge profits.
I'm currently running 67% tax and bringing in 1200 BCs per month and I haven't maxed out the trade routes yet.
Add on things like trade SBs and sending your trading routes to the AI planet with the highest productivity...
It's relative though right... early in the game you can be swamped by deficit spending, you can get a run away AI, you can get overwhelmed with influences, you can fail to pay enough bribes/gifts, the ways to get yourself wiped from existence are legion. And there is only one path to victory.
And before anyone gets their knickers in a knot… there is only one path to victory but there are multiple victory conditions. Check out post #7 in this thread Link
There is a very clear path to follow… colony rush then tech rush, social rush. Rinse and repeat once or twice while exploring the galaxy. This is the point at which you know if you are going to ‘win’. Everything after that is mopping up. It is possible to pull the rabbit out of the hat and it’s possible to get crushed no matter what you do. There are random events after all. Once you completed the above cycle, then you can decide if you wan to pick up all those PQ13/14s you found, while you change to tech rush, military rush, social rush. Mix and match depending on the current situation… Do you need tech to trade, do you need to up you morale or build a wonder or trade good? Do you need to fend off the AI?
At highest difficulty level (maso), the ‘win’ point comes early due to the bonuses the AI gets at the two highest difficulty levels. You need to start your first tech rush 16 to 20 months in to the game. Otherwise you’ve got nothing to trade when you start meeting the AIs. Leave it too late and Monkey Boy will be hauling your sorry ass off to the death furnaces. Deficit spend for techs then back off and move back into the black. Keep you morale at 100% on you best planet(s). Micromanage you spending and taxes only spend enough to get what you want no more. Put the rest in to something else.
Also don’t worry too much about how far you are behind in tech at crip and maso. You will catch up if you follow the path. And finally don’t build everything everywhere, only build what you need. Build the big expensive things at you best planet(s)

I wonder why the Honda Civic makes so much noise ?
| |
|
|
|

Is it because it's a bucket of bolts?
Sorry...have no idea.

Reminds me of a joke...
What do you call the rear window defroster on a Yugo?
A hand warmer.

Another Chaotic Good I am going to lose the pure good battle.
