I usually have taxes up near 70-75% at some point, with 100% spending, and a large profit, and have gotten that high with morale still at 100%.

What am I doing wrong? I've yet to get the taxes up that anywhere near that high with a profit of any kind.

I have my secrets...

psst. They're called Morale Resources. Shhh.

Actually, no. Sorry, Lothmorg, I almost entierly ignore resources.

I find them essential.

It's all wrapped up in morale. The higher the morale the higher the taxes. Add to that any trade you are doing and or any of the tech sales to the minors and you can be running high taxes and huge profits.

I'm currently running 67% tax and bringing in 1200 BCs per month and I haven't maxed out the trade routes yet.

Add on things like trade SBs and sending your trading routes to the AI planet with the highest productivity...

It's relative though right... early in the game you can be swamped by deficit spending, you can get a run away AI, you can get overwhelmed with influences, you can fail to pay enough bribes/gifts, the ways to get yourself wiped from existence are legion. And there is only one path to victory.

And before anyone gets their knickers in a knot… there is only one path to victory but there are multiple victory conditions. Check out post #7 in this thread http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=144097 Link

There is a very clear path to follow… colony rush then tech rush, social rush. Rinse and repeat once or twice while exploring the galaxy. This is the point at which you know if you are going to ‘win’. Everything after that is mopping up. It is possible to pull the rabbit out of the hat and it’s possible to get crushed no matter what you do. There are random events after all. Once you completed the above cycle, then you can decide if you wan to pick up all those PQ13/14s you found, while you change to tech rush, military rush, social rush. Mix and match depending on the current situation… Do you need tech to trade, do you need to up you morale or build a wonder or trade good? Do you need to fend off the AI?

At highest difficulty level (maso), the ‘win’ point comes early due to the bonuses the AI gets at the two highest difficulty levels. You need to start your first tech rush 16 to 20 months in to the game. Otherwise you’ve got nothing to trade when you start meeting the AIs. Leave it too late and Monkey Boy will be hauling your sorry ass off to the death furnaces. Deficit spend for techs then back off and move back into the black. Keep you morale at 100% on you best planet(s). Micromanage you spending and taxes only spend enough to get what you want no more. Put the rest in to something else.

Also don’t worry too much about how far you are behind in tech at crip and maso. You will catch up if you follow the path. And finally don’t build everything everywhere, only build what you need. Build the big expensive things at you best planet(s)

I wonder why the Honda Civic makes so much noise ?

#732  by Citizen Paguma - 3/2/2004 9:04:46 AM

Does this mean all this time I thought taxes should be no more than 60% I was wrong ?

I personally tax them at what ever rate they'll let me and still have their approval over 80%.

You probably don't want to compare to what I said. That's with every social upgrade to improve morale, every tech to improve morale, and every trade good to improve morale, as well as probably a bonus to moral in my racial bonuses. That's later in the game.

Is it because it's a bucket of bolts?

Sorry...have no idea.

So I have a run away Drengin I'm battling in the game I'm currently playing. Poupulation is currently 4x any other race and number of planets is 3x any other race.

Tribute is now up to 250 BCs per month over 99 months. And they are currently hostle. Don't know if I can pull the rabbit out of the hat this time.

Because you need to keep the windows open to ensure the death furnaces run at max temp???

Nope no idea really.

My last game on the weekend was frustrating. The Yor had a military that was infinitely greater than mine. Even though my population was 5 times greater than his and I had a lot more planets we were in a statemate. He had the ships already built. Every time I built a new one he attacked and destroyed it. We were both using excaliburs, and as you know, they're a lot better to attack than defend. The lack of a defense ship at this stage of the game makes it very difficult to get out of this hole.

Reminds me of a joke...

What do you call the rear window defroster on a Yugo?
A hand warmer.

I had an interesting game,

I was falling badly behind in technology I could build dreadnaughts but there were races with excalabar.

It was costing me fortune to bribe them so they would not go to war a wipe out monkey boy, "ME".

Got the share technology vote and they voted 10 technologies. The techs just rolled in

I set my Military spending the 40% started cranking out excalabars and the funny thing is all of the sudden I stopped being Monkey Boy and became a trusted friend.

You Canadians just won't stop playing!! You're making it very hard for the Guardians to pass you, you know.

You guys will be passing Realms Beyond pretty soon...good job staying just in front of us!

They have some people who (used to) submit very often. If they do that again, they would leave us farther behind.

As for us, it's cool because both Technician and I are fighting hard to enter the top 25 players.
