I had really bad luck.

First game I started I lucked out got a 26 planet
Said to myself great easy win.
Minor race beat me to the diplo translators 6 turns into the
game
Then I meet the Torians they had 12 systems I had 3 Earth, class 26 system and an average system. Of course first thing they did was demand my class 26 system !!

The Second game the game I won my starting position was a corner. I won the game but it does that along time to travel across a gigantic map. Long game.

Hi,

I just found the Canadian thread. I thought I would share my experience with MASO. I have tried MASO several times but never beat it, I suck at MASO. I do have a few challenges and one of them is my computer. I can really only play tiny and small maps comfortably and I get crushed fast playing MASO.

I do enjoy playing crippling all the way down to normal. At the crippling setting the game is tough enough and the computer players are not cheating too much.

As a side note, last summer around june/july I made it to the top 5 or 6 position on the metaverse. It was around this time that everyone started to figure out how to play MASO.
I just recently started playing regularly again, although my scores are not very big I still enjoy the game.

I have posted up a detailed tally of *all* of the scores from the Clone War, sorted by Empire and Empire member, for all five alliances. See who you are competing against!

Go to http://diplomats.galciv.org/forum/ Link and go to the forum entitled "Public Square": "Audience Chamber" and look for the thread entitled "Detailed Score Tally from the Clone War by Empire and Member". If you don't already have an account on this board, then feel free to create an account and password and get immediate access to the "Audience Chamber"!

Hey Boss... Thanks. Have you tried the new ap beta yet? Influence does not multiply any more. At least that's what release notes say.

Hey Boss... you see this over in the main forum?

#5 by Citizen Bromoser - 3/10/2004 1:26:52 AM

I think why people get confused by the Metaverse scoring is that:

Block 1 0-30 days

is actually a 31 day block not 30 if you include day 0 (today) as one of the days.

A 30 day block would actually be 0-29 days old. My calculations are exactly the same as the Metaverse if the 1st block is 31 days including the current date.

I made it to the top 5 or 6 position on the metaverse.

I hear you I was in the same position, I have only been playing Maso for a few months but I guess my main advantage is playing on a Gigantic Map.

my scores are not very big I still enjoy the game.

Enjoying the game is all that really matters.

Hey... Newf... Glad to see you drop by. And good to see you submitting games too. You did notice that the Boss promoted you to Senator... Right?

So... Let me see... Maso... You've see my post earlier in this thread on general strats? And you've been through the Strats forum? Specifically the Maso threads. And you have been following the RBers succession games? If not I would encourage you to go have a read through all of them. You would, I believe, find them both highly informative and highly entertaining.

As for map size and 'verse points and such... You've seen the earlier post in this thread on 'fun'?

Now down to specifics... I found the difference between crip and maso is how fast you switch from planet rush to tech rush. That really needs to happen in the first 14-18 months on a large or huge. By that I mean you need to switch from 100% mil spending to 100% tech spending with in that time frame. Oh... And leave behind any PQ 14s. On tiny or small maps... (which I don't play by the way) I suspect the switch over happens much earlier. Like 6-8 months in.

You are already playing on crip so moving to maso is not going to be too big a jump for you I don’t think.

Anyone else play small/tiny maso?

Hey RoJo... How's the succession game going?

Vir... buddy... How you game comming along? Any questions?

#886  by Citizen damoose - 3/10/2004 7:13:29 AM

Tech... No I haven't tried the new beta yet. But Brad has a thread up in the main forum explaining the changes. Have you read it yet?

And

but it does that along time to travel across a gigantic map. Long game

Yeah. I'm running a 2 gig chip so playing anything bigger than large just takes too d&mn long. Particularly when there are a lot of ships in play. New PC after tax time I think.

I am thinking about building a PC from scratch,
but then I think that laptops are the way to go.

Laptops are $$$ but are mobile and I like the idea of taking my laptop anywhere at anytime.

Anybody check the clone wars scores I do not think the CSF is doing that poorly. We are leading the score for our team.

Could not find Frogboy's post.

Influence does not multiple.

That will be a pain when I have to protect one one my systems from cultural influence.

Boss may have hard time flipping systems.

Yes. And I was supprised at how many people are actually submitting.

Way to go CSF.

Oh oh... I accept the new challenge.
Hey Boss... you see this over in the main forum?

No, but the first block is not causing the problems, it's the later blocks that cause the problems. If you take a player that has no games in the later blocks their scores usually calculate perfectly.

Yeah. I'm running a 2 gig chip so playing anything bigger than large just takes too d&mn long.

I only have an Athlon 1800, which is 1.5GHz I think. I can play Huge, although a little slow. Gigantic is terribly sluggish though.

Boss may have hard time flipping systems.

Yes, I'm still pretty confident though. I'm a much better player now. I flip systems because I can, and it's easier. I can still beat them other ways. The only time it will be really difficult is if one race gets much more powerful than me. That's when cultural absorption is so much easier!

First of all, congratulations on passing us.

For a bunch of undead, your tread and your empire score have become very active.

I don't think the CPU speed affects the game speed that much. My PC is only a P3 866MHz and the game speed is pretty much the same whatever the map size I play. Of course, it has been a while since I played anything other than a gigantic map so I may remeber wrong.

JaxomCA... Thanks.

And I think it has to do with the number of objects that need to move. Not the actual size per se. It's just the larger the map, the more objects are created during the game, because it is more likely the game will be longer. At least for most of us.

Absolutely, in those gigantic universes when I have 100+ constructors moving around, my computer gets pretty much unusable.
