Create a colony on class 10(+) planet just to create a cultural bomb

Doesn't everybody do this?

#1051  by Citizen Bam_Bam - 3/15/2004 12:22:55 PM

Pressing "F8" will give you the same cultural view of a sector.

Did someone say "lunch"?

Bam Bam... Nice to have you drop by. How's the latest SG going? I haven't had the time req'd to go over and read the threads... need some dedicate concentration time. I got them book marked though.

I've gotten the reports from all the participants. My comments will go up this evening, then my turn, and then we will move on to the next round.

#1055  by Citizen damoose - 3/15/2004 12:26:50 PM

Since we are a quiet bunch - except for me sometimes

Well... feel free to drop by anytime. And If you'd like I'm sure we could get some Guardians and Jedi over to 'pump you up'

I have been getting culture bombed by the Arceans, but they are wholly ineffective with the new calculations. I have had the good fortune to get a few influence wonders/trade goods in my lastest games. That has really helped to combat any attemps made by the AI as well.

Sweet! Definately will need to make time then. I knew about the 96 hours limit so I wasn't in a big hurry to get over there. Now I will.

And as if you haven't heard it before...

D&AMN fine job on the SGs.

They were ineffective even using the old calcs, IMHO. But at least they react now instead of sitting there and dying... they sit there and die while doing something. .

Damoose - Just do not laugh/snicker too hard when reading my moves. Some mistakes I am sure, but I try.

It will be interesting to read where I went wrong or actually did right.

They do react. Have a hunt through the Gaurdians thread for yesterday, several people have noticed culture bases from the AIs, as have I. Unfortunately however you still end up with the same result as they aren't effective. The AI does not react fast enough and spread out insted of concentrated to counter your cultural concentration.

Sorry, I probably wasn't clear. They didn't react to me culture bombing them. They just stood by idly as I flipped their entire empire. In fact they were good friends of mine according to the diplomacy screen. You shouldn't be friends some someone who is in the process of attacking you culturually.

Then again, isn't that what the USA is doing to Canada?

No, in the old releases you didn't even need a planet at all.

Ah, but which is more effective? All of modern U.S. pop culture, or a case each of Canadian whiskey and beer?

Ours may make the biggest racket, but yours probably wins more converts. Just who is doing the "bombing"?

I think the "bombing" title belongs exclusively to the war-happy USA.

#1064  by Citizen Paguma - 3/15/2004 1:09:44 PM

I was talking about culture-bombing. If you live, or have visited Canada, you would know we are inundated with US culture. Most of our television originates in the USA, a lot of our music, most of our movies, most of our magazines, many of the businesses in Canada are American franchises, etc...

Some American politicians find it hard to understand why Canada has some Canadian content laws to protect it's culture. Without them, it would be very hard for some of cultural stuff to exist.

I guess it's harder for American politicians to understand because they are the cultural monster.

So we produce our party palaces of terror and put things like Celine Dion on them!

RoJo! Hi... Good to see you. You need to drop in more often neh?

Damoose - Just do not laugh/snicker too hard when reading my moves

Nope. Wouldn't do that. I'll be interested to see what you did do. I learn something from everyone.

True... Hence the end result is the same. They do react just not effectively. And this is another area in which they are ineffective.

Now that's an understatement!

#1070  by Citizen Paguma - 3/15/2004 8:20:47 PM

I tested the cultural attack tonight, and posted my findings to the thread in the main forum. The cultural attack is useless in Masochistic in my opinion. I have 2 planets with embassies and cultural exchange centers and 9 party palaces and can't turn a single planet in an adjacent sector. That makes this non-viable because at the cost to build those 9 party palaces it's just not worth it.

Good news is, I've got a good game underway and saved it before attempting this!

#1071  by Diplomat Technician - 3/15/2004 8:49:47 PM

I wonder what will happen if 9 Party Places were placed next to your sector.

#1072  by Citizen Paguma - 3/15/2004 9:03:46 PM

I think if 2 were there I'd be toast!

I couldn't get interested in playing that game much longer. I had wasted an hour on the cultural attack, so when I went back I just wanted to end it. I took the quicker alliance victory. Cost me 7000 points, but at least it ended quick and I get points.

I forgot to mention it, but in my last great military victory is was cool because I had a fleet with vampires, wraiths, paladins, sovereigns and the regular cast of characters. I was evil, but when I conquered the good races, it lets you finish the ships already in progess. That was cool.
