Wow! I wonder if they changed influence calculations or something.

Check the thread is Galciv forum, or in the H&S section of the Senate Halls: cultural bonus from different starbases in same sector no longer multply but add instead

#1103  by Citizen damoose - 3/16/2004 10:59:00 AM

Yes they have. And Phoenix gave a nice synopsis in one of the threads... If I could just remember which one... Oh well he'll be by again. But basically influence is added then multiplied instead of multiplied then added then multiplied again.

Give you the same influence in the sector where the SB is created just like previous versions but severely curtails in the influence in the next sector over. Hence flipping from outside the sector is very, very difficult.

Sorry to correct you:
- if there only one SB with cultural module in a sector, there is no difference with the old calculation
- if they are more than one, bonus values from are first added then the overall bonus is used the influnce of the sector. In the previous formula, influence where calculated in a loop, leading to a multiplying effect
- there are no change of the effect of the influence o a sector to the adjacent. It is still a 5th o the sector influence. But since the influence in the sector is lower ...

I missed this...sorry. Wow! I wonder if they changed influence calculations or something.

Yes they indeed did. It did need changing, I'm just trying to drive home the point that's it's gone too far the other way. Stardock mentioned it needed playtesting, and I'm trying to give them my feedback.

What is the influence of this planet? What is your influence in the sector where this planet is? What is your influence in the adjacent sector?

I saved it at that particular point so I can answer these questions when I get home. Although I think they're irrelevent myself. I'm not arguing that the game isn't working properly, but that the bonuses given are not enough to actually flip a planet, and I think that's wrong. I think my particular example proved the point I was trying to make. With the most recent changes, cultural attacks are so expensive and ineffective Stardock has essentially removed that as an option, at least at the Masochistic level.

I think removing options is always bad. What we needed was balance, not elimination.

I am still interested with the various numbers.

No need to be sorry... I hoping you'd be by again to correct me.

I'm used to that... My wife believes I need a lot of correcting.

Thanks Technician! I should make it a point to check the main forums more often, I guess.

The new calculations do make a major impact on the way it works. At least I see that Stardock wants it tested, acknowledges it needs it, so maybe we can get it tweaked. It seems that in attempting balance they inadvertently toasted it....

I'll post them tonight. There are 3 adjacent with 1 planet each. Two of them are Drengin, and in those I have the higher influence but not enough to make a planet revolt. The 3rd is the Altarians, and in that sector, he still has the higher influence. The Altarians are currently the most powerful race, and most likely have the other influence wonders.

Since you all around, I hope you don't mind if I ask this question here.
Before this new version of AP, the lower in difficulty you went for (ie tough, challenging, etc.) the more cash you would get for tech trades. Now that you don't get cash for techs, what makes challenging difficulty any different from maso? Is it the likely hood the AI's will attack?

#1113  by Diplomat Technician - 3/16/2004 1:54:35 PM

The Maso level Aliens get significant bonuses.

They build ships, social projects and research much faster than Humanity does.

The factors Aliens use to decide to attack are the same on all levels.

Thanks, Tech

what makes challenging difficulty any different from maso

Also the boni the ET gets are deifferent for each level. Highest on maso decreasing as you decrease the difficulty.

The factors Aliens use to decide to attack are the same on all levels

Tech is correct the factors that are checked are the same on all levels.

However, I have not played the lower difficulties for a little while now so you'll need to take this with a grain or two of salt... From my reading the threads I believe that, it's the thresholds for those factors also appear to to be different for each level... Did that make sense?

I done something stupid last game.

Got the luck bonus of 100 corvettes !!!

I find corvettes useless so I gave them away as gift to the strongest Alien race. I thought why burden my economy with their maintance cost.

Well they left the corvettes parked next to my system and in 4 turns started attacking me with them.
