What is the influence of this planet? What is your influence in the sector where this planet is? What is your influence in the adjacent sector?

Wow, my influence on Dester is only 12, and that's with EVERY upgrade to boost influence built!

X = Dester
D1 is a Drengin system
- Planet Influence 52
- Sector Influence:

25 cm of snow tonight Anybody else stuck with a storm today ?

I think I've been hit by the same storm. Walking to work tomorrow is going to be "fun" if the expected 25 cm does fall. Just last week though I had thought that spring was here... oh well, the snow has to end eventually (I hope).

And congrats Tech on 12th place At this rate you'll be in the top 10 in no time.

That is maybe the problem. I suppose that before colonizing, the influence was 0. The system doesn't seems to offer an sufficient boost. But you are still able to have 2131 influence in the surroundings sector which is nice. (you have a 5 factor between influence in a sector and influence in surroundings sectors).
I fear that the difference with Drengin isn't great enough for a flipping (or they have build all cultural resist improvement with some ships orbiting the planet)

You will have an hard time to flip the Altarian sector.

I think to remember that population is important for the influence of the system. How many people are in Dester?

I wonder if you could still pull of the cultural attack if you played with less intellegent aliens ?

So Tech, Vir did you guys get your 25 cm of snow?

Paguma, try putting a party palace in each adjacent sectors, only one per sector should be enough. If you don't have any influence ressources, or the target AI has about the same you have, it may be a difficult task to flip AI systems. Look if you can buy some influence starbases from the weaker AI without going broke, a few good techs is often enough to buy a starbase.

Probably about 15 billion. There were 20, but some died (or stopped paying taxes?) before my terraforming was completed.

It's all irrelevent now. If this is how Stardock wants the game to be, then culturally attacking a planet that is not immediately adjacent to your empire is really no longer a acceptable strategy.

If this is how the cultural bonuses are going to work, I think the additional costs for modules is completely uneccesary. The above change already will stop any abuses.

I agree with you. You have allready stated this in the post #48 in the AP thread initiated by Frogboy. Not sure if you need to make another post in that thread. You could always quote Frogboy post (particularly the point about testing this change) and add that with this new calculation, abuses are stopped and costs for cultural modules are no longer needed.

I had an interesting game last night. I was one of the top 3 races, and basically incited wars amongst the other races as I rushed through the tech tree. Unfortunately the Torians were beating me in the tech races, but I was able to keep them at war with the Altarians (strange, they're usually allies) who had the strongest military. The Torians had the most advanced tech but hardly any military, so I built one, and took his planets. Then I took out the Drengin. The Altarians and Arceans took out everybody else.

It was then a 3 way race. I was trying to figure out what to do next when I got the dreaded message from the Arceans. "I think we should take you out, before you get us." or whatever it is exactly. This was a double whammy, because they were still the strongest military and at this point represented 70% of my trade, so my economy was shattered right before a bad war was about to start. The Excaliburs were a surprise, he was much lower than me a little while earlier, he must have gotten that tech from invading the Torians.

I tried to stand my ground, but he already had excaliburs built. I had them being built, but it wasn't going to be fast enough! He took out my whole military in about 3 turns, as well as 2-3 of the border planets. I decided that war was futile and offered him all my tech, trade goods, my treasury and 5 planets for peace. He accepted. The two better planets of the 5 I offered him were in my cultural sectors and flipped back to me a couple turns later. The 3 others were border planets I would have lost in the coming turns anyway.

So then I went after the Altarians myself hoping to get enough planets to deal with the Arceans later. I did close the gap but at the end of that war the Arceans were still much more powerful than me, and were getting angry, even with the 10 trade routes. So I gave him all my military to make him like me.

He was happy, and the boost I got from not paying maintenace was massive! So then I was making about 1500-2000 credits per month. Then I played the "End Turn" race to build up a treasury and keep giving him gifts. I kept building Excaliburs and gifting those to him to. It look a long time, because sometimes I'd lose ground, sometimes gain, but eventually I got relations to stay at close long enough to build up enough assets to gift to him to accept an alliance, and get the alliance victory.

So, now I have proven to myself that I can win at Masochistic without using any culture flipping. I won a couple pure military ones, as well as pulling this one out of a hat when things went wrong.

I wonder how the CSF is doing in the Clone War ?

It always nice to give a gift that will return peacefully to you later

Sure. I tend to search for the best military rating vs maintenance ratio. So far, I found the AMM: lots of attack, no defense, destroyed when used but only 1 BC in maintenance

get the alliance victory

Hopefully you haven't disabled this kind of victory

I don't like disabling any kind of victory. I find disabling cultural victory to get a military victory very cheesy.

Disabling alien tech victory so you could achieve it after them is also very cheesy.

No, I play with them all, and deal with the consequences.

You're not giving me much information to let me know what you're talking about. I tried it with your stardock Id. Is the question because the metaverse score seems very different?

My servlet didn't change. Whether Stardock changes the scoring rules, I have no idea.

I does not seem to work from work.

Put in my ID 356778, Score 60000, Date March, 17 and it does not get my history.

May have something to do with my Location but it did work in place.

Ah, ran it for you again and it didn't work. I assume that's what you're talking about. THere is some weird case where the servlet is unable to retrieve the data from the metaverse. It's odd, and I can't reproduce it in debug mode. I do know it tends to dissappear after the next submission.

#1145  by Diplomat Technician - 3/17/2004 2:38:42 PM

It did work after a few attempts. I looks like my next 60000 point submission will give me or be close to 600000 points

Guys... You did notice that this thread is well over 1100 posts... Ummm This does not fit with our image as quiet and sneaky you know. The UnDead are not known for drawing attention to themselves... I mean how are we going to catch any 'snacks' when we are being so... noisey?

Cool looking Zombie flick starting up soon.

We should make it home work to check the thing out.
Get some Zombie pointers.

You know if we stayed too quiet none of our buds from the other empires would drop by

Evil Dead 1&2 and Army of Darkness must yield something as well.
