On smaller maps I will try for 3 systems

I usually get 4-5.

I usually set taxes 60% early in the game

I set taxes to what ever is required to keep morale at 100% for as long as possible on 90% of my worlds.

I don't 'try' for the early TG or wonders. If I get'em grate If not I lease 'em. Mid-game wonders are a different story. Anything that provides influence I'm interested in.

I think I'm going to have to move banks up the queue though. I usually don't build 'em until after soil and hab.

My easiest games are when I meet Minor races

Indeed!

By then, I've usually got tech lead and can build them at leisure (apart from Galactic Monument, 'cause I never go after Star Fed myself, and some AI usually rushes it as soon as they get the tech).

As for diplo translators, their importance for me is lessened 'cause I'm playing Populists with 60% diplo pick.

Banks are nice - I maintain 100% spending at 43% tax throughout, as long as I get the trade routes established early and build banks. Having only 3 systems helps here also.

I generally use the minors for picking up the military techs that the majors don't trade cheaply (deflectors, corvettes, battleship etc).

damoose,

The private message feature at the Senate Halls forum is cool

Got your reply.

I wonder if other CSF members know they can sign up ?

They do not seem to mind having Undead crashing in once and awhile.

1479,

I am going to ignore the Diplo translators,

I go for 60% bonus Diplomatic skills.

I read that Alliance wins are not getting posted on the Metaverse.

I guess this means I should not update my AP

Correct. You should not update your AP.

And what is going on with the 1479, 1481 thing?

1485

Sort of a milestone this week.

I have played more Maso than Begineer level games.

I hope to crack 800000 soon.

You know the only reason I want to try a smaller map.
I read smaller maps can still yield 60000 and can be finished faster.

Yup. Large map alliance or mil victory... 60K with the AP beta. I don't know how long that will continue though. It is a rather large hole in the scoring.

I play Large for 3 reasons.

1) They can be finished a lot faster.
2) You still can hit the 60,000 point maximum.
3) My computer is sluggish with the larger maps.

My strategy is different than some of the ones posted here. Although I was glad to see Alex also point out he pays the bribes early in the game. I keep reading in the main forums "never pay bribes". Give me a break, it's a lot easier to pay someone 500 credits than be thrown into a war that will eat up years of resources, especially if you have no military at the time!

The strategy I am following is to get the AI's to be my friends from the beginning, bribe here, a tech there and they all will switch to friendly or warm and will stay like that for the rest of the game and after 5 or 6 years they even start getting to close and you can ally with them.

For my CSF friends...

Just to let you know, I did play this weekend. I submitted a 60,000 point game Saturday morning. I had two other games that slipped through my fingers. I got good starts, but the aliens were unusually obnoxious, and I couldn't avoid wars early in the game. I quit the games rather than be launched into a war that early. That's not my style of game.

That's still one aspect of the game that annoys me. The AI is way too aggressive simply because you have a weak military. Even if you're not close to them, a threat, and even have the same alignment. They're all war mongers!

Oh, and one of the games, the Torians were especially annoying so you can count me on board for the racial cleansing!

I retired two games last week, I was FRIENDS with the stupid cyborgs but they decided they had to wipe out humanity.

That is why I had so much fun playing beginner level games.
You still get Aliens declare War on you but you get the statisfaction
of wiping the Galaxy clean of the Alien scum.

It seems like we have general agreement that Torian genocide is a good thing.

I was thinking what one of their heads would look like as a Trophy.

Two problems,

How do I support such a big melon?
Their big fat heads will likely crack my walls.

I think their bug eyes staring at me will cause a problem.

I just wish when you increase the difficulty levels, the AI got smarter instead of more aggressive. I want to beat a smarter opponent, I don't want one who is going to start a war that serves no purpose but to hinder my chances of success. We both submit a lot of alliance victories, so they may very well be throwing their own chances of success out the window!

This is typical in AI in all computer games. The developers try to make it more difficult for you to win. Since it's very hard to truly make the AI that much smarter, they often "cheat" by giving the AI more advantages (read cheat), or make them do stuff just to hinder the player. I would love to know if the AI is just as unforgiving to all the other alien races, or is it just the humans?

Most computer games I play at normal difficulty because the AI cheating at higher levels annoys me too much. This one isn't too bad other than the aggressiveness. I can live with most of the other bonuses.

I love to.

The only problem is I am not much of an artist and do not own a program that will do the job.

What do you think CSF?
Can somebody generate a picture?

Nice log cabin and a stuffed Torian head mounted over the fire.

What would be more Canadian ?
We can not use Moose, after all Moose is a member.
