This seemed the most appropriate thread to make a comment about the playoffs...
And so ends the first foray of the Nashville Predators into postseason play. Ack. Durn those Redwings, anyway. Although it was fascinating listening to sports radio down here, with a description of "icing" delivered in a Southern drawl for the benefit of potential fans unversed in the minutae of hockey rules. Very similar to when a few of us at work tried to explain the NFL's instant replay review rules to a few visitors from our German parent company...

Heh, I get dirty looks for saying things like that about the Red Wings here. I guess I live too close to Detroit. I was kinda hoping Dallas would have gotten further.

Ah, I see you too Ben are in Tennessee. Never noticed that before. That was a sad game. The Preds deserved better. Especially with a goalie as good as Vokoun. Well, I know they will be back next year, and I plan to come up from college to see them play. I am actually going to a college with the only NCAA 1-A hockey team south of the Mason-Dixon line: University of Alabama at Huntsville. Kinda cool.

So Tech... How the new computer? Faster you said? You got everything set up now? What are you going to do with the old one? |
|
It has to be the biggest laptop I ever seen.
Which was expected.
I wanted a desktop replacement not a ultra light.
I big let down for me was when I ordered the laptop I expected the secondary battery could be installed with the orginal battery to give me additional battery life.
Dell's web site is miss leading the Secondary battery is installed in the same slot as the primary battery.
Go lots of work left I bought a new router with a WiFi access point built in. Not sure I got it to work. When I selected the network and entered the hex ID generated WEP password and try to connect nothing seems to happen.
WEP Is use just for piece of mind. I do not need my neighbours using my internet for free access.
The other two things I will have to get used to but should not be a big deal is the Laptop is widescreen and you notice when the fans turn on to cool down the internal electronics.
Still have a check list of applications I want installed.
Office XP Pro,
Borland Java
and the Microsoft .net applications.
I own all of the these programs it will just that awhile for me to dig up the CDs and reinstall.
I may even buy Borland Java X though borland annoys me.
Here is what they do buy something like Borland 9 and 6 months latter they come out with a new application.
I am just a humble Tech and can not afford such a rapid upgrade cycle.
No big hurry.
I also live to install a graphically intense game such a Torn 2.0 just to see how fluid the game runs on the new machine.
The one and only game I installed was AP.
The procedure I inquired about worked great,
Downloaded Stardock Central,
entered my Drengin and Object desktop password,
Downloaded latest GC, Media, and AP
Here is how the game runs.
Startup takes about 3-4 minutes on my old machine, 30 seconds on the new dell. Sava a game over a minute on the old machine, much faster 10-20 seconds on the new machine. Press the turn button get alittle lag on the old machine, the new machine no lag at all. Have 10 turns to the next event press the turn button 10 times almost no delay. You still get a busy occassionly when an event is about to occur but the time waiting is very fast.
I am very happy the way it turned out all of the graphics are distorted because the screen in wider but it is easy to get used to. I should see if the laptop has a window box mode ?
The old laptop I think I will put in storage for now, maybe give it to the family.
