Hey Thomas,

Good to hear from you. Nice score on you last submit.

First, go to the strat forum and read every thread you can find on Maso. Next, have a look at the succession game run by the RBers. You can find that thread here: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=133585 Link

Finally, micromanegment and trading techs are the keys. Don't worry about being behind, give in to all extorsion demands unless they ask for a planet. And only the Alexians will give you money for tech (out of the early players). The majors will not trade tech for money nor will any of the other minors you meet until you are well into the mid game.

Come on back if you have more questions.

The Politics has taken over.

I love the US.
Did Bush every find those weapons of mass destruction?

There was an excellent debate on Joeuser.

To our newwest member welcome,

Up until the beginning of this year I never played MASO games but now I rarely use. Well that is if I look like I will lose I restart

Here is my game play strategy,
I look for abilities that will give me diplomatic power, I think I have +60 diplomatic, Lucky, and the remainding points I use for planet improvement. Rare habitable planets and Alignment of the Aliens should match you.

I like gigantic maps for two reasons the games last longer and I can build a good start before dealing with Aliens.

Start will a good Planet Earth class 21 is ideal (you need the planet bonus or you only get class 20). Try to have some room to expand do not get locked into a corner but try not to start in the middle of the map where you will be surrounded by Aliens.

Set Taxes to a point where the morality on your planets does not drop to low. Low moral planets do not get a population growth. Set Spending to 100%. Set Military to 100% and build colony ships to get all the local planets you can. You may only get 4 or 5 planets so one you get say 6 colony ships.

Set research to 100% build communication theory, universal translators and Diploymatic translators.

Set Social to 100% and on the planet with the highest social production build diploymatic translators. Hope you beat the Aliens to them you may want to save games so you can by them if they beat you the the punch. Diploymatic translators are powerfull and I never trade them.

I then set Military to 25%, Social to 5% and Research to 70% and build technology. By now you will likely be awhere of some Major races and hopefully minor races. I build constructors to increase my range, harvest resources if I can get them and combat Alien Cultural influence. I build freights to get extra cash.

After I get my Diploymatic Translators I drop Taxes to 40% and the Spending drops to a similar level. Only two ways to get cash Trade Technology to a Minor race. If the minor race has lots of cash offer a tech see how much you can get, trading I trade with Major races. They do not have the cash Minors do so selling techs for cash does not work and trade routes make it less likely they would start a war against you.

By all means trade techs with Major Alien Races if you can get a fair trade but do not offers Aliens Techs for cash unless yhou really dominate. Watch the Major Alien races if the are becoming hostile to you give them a tech if you are not in a position to go to War.

I find following these rules I will a money coming in like crazy and Tech. When I can afford it I increase spending reaching usually 100 % and I maybe able to drop the taxes.
You need to Trade for case and have trading routes. Get starbases on every resourse you can find. If aliens are waring each other park a constructor by and Alien Starbase grab it when the Starbase is destoryied by the Alien's Enemies.

Most of all have fun. Sorry about the spelling or lack of it but really play some easy games and build from yor experiance.

Sirian,

Let's just say, like our countries, we disagree. I have no intention of debating you. You completely misunderstand me as well as Chretien, but alas it is time to just let it drop. Please, do not continue this conversation in our thread.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Now to throw us back into a Canadian topic. The Sens game was good today, and I even won the pool in the box for the final score! Yes, it was my token one time in the luxury box this year!

Decora ad Gloria, Immortalis means

You know, a friend of mine suggested that, and I forget exactly. I think it's something like "Glory and Honour forever" or something to that effect.

#207  by Veteran Gerakken - 2/13/2004 4:36:45 AM

Gerakken bravely makes his way into the new graveyard to gather the most recent intelligence data. The undead are sneaky, and normally able to detect living flesh very easily. The Spymaster's high degree of stealth may forstall detection, but it was only a matter of time before eventually being discovered. Missions here would have to be brief. Luckily. the graveyard is in turmoil as a visitor from another empire causes enough distraction for Gerakken to get in and out in time without ending up as a snack. Next time, Gerakken notes, it would be better to leave a snack plate at another entrance and sneak in the back. But the Canadians are not bound by any fences. The Spymaster remembers the Canada Day offensive and knows it pays to be vigilant. One day, the undead might again pour forth out of the graveyard.

Hey Tech... Good to see you back.

#209  by Citizen damoose - 2/13/2004 6:55:03 AM

Hummm... Based on what Paguma and Hurley say it means... I've come to the following translation... "Honour and Glory, Forever".

Yeah... I can go for that.

#210  by Citizen damoose - 2/13/2004 7:00:04 AM

Guys... Who left the d&mn door open? That sneaky spymaster was here again. Left his foot prints in the dust... Now I'm going to have to brush them out. I hate house keeping.

Oh and Gerakken... We preffer our snacks warm and bloody. So unless you are going to do the prep before hand I'm not sure exactly how you are going to get the Party Favours to stay sitting on a plate.

And good to see you back.

If you visit the RB general forums, you will see this kind of political discussion all the time, with both left- and right-wing rhetoric flying around all over the place. I find it's not my thing. The easiest way to deal with it is to ignore it and pull out my trusty "whatver."

Yeah... I don't mind a serious discuss on things... but this is not my thing either.

#213  by Citizen Rojo96 - 2/13/2004 8:31:06 AM

Can someone please explain why the score that is submitted is not the score that is actually added to my total?

I am still in the learning stage (playing beginner), and when I submitted a score last night (it told me it submitted 5310), I noticed that my total had only increased 2133 pts. Is it adjusting my score due to difficulty level?

I like friendly discussions where people listen to both sides and don't have their minds made up absolutely already. That's difficult when it's drenched in rhetoric.

As you say, there are better places for that discussion, places where I won't go.

BTW, sorry I'm absent from posting lately. I picked up C&C Generals: Zero Hour last weekend. The price dropped always in half.

I always get distracted by other games, but I will come back to galciv. Maybe this weekend, maybe next.

Rojo96,

The score on the Metaverse is not a simple calculation,

The way I understand it is the more games you play the lower your score is. In addition the older games get devalued.

Now with over 100 games I am not a fan of this system but the intent is noble. It allow newer users to quickly climb the ranks of the Metaverse.

There is a compensation for players than submit lots of games. Since older games are some how devalued the newest games I submit should have more value to my over all score.

That is good for you since you have made a noticable jump in difficulty of late.

Hey Technician,

I just noticed that although you have AP, you're playing v 1.13 instead... Care to elaborate on that? Is it because you can't trade with the minors?

#220  by Veteran Theoden of Rohan - 2/13/2004 10:15:58 AM

I downloaded AP but I'm currently playing 1.13, too. I don't know if Tech is like me, but I definitely need some more time to figure out how to deal with the extra races and the lower willingness to trade by the AIs.

I'm just "test driving" AP basically.

#221  by Citizen Paguma - 2/13/2004 10:49:20 AM

I must admit, my interest in AP is waning again as I hear more about it. I really dislike when they make the AI, unrealistically difficult to deal to stop some people from abusing them.

If they trade with the other races, why wouldn't they trade with the humans? That's not fair.

#222  by Veteran Theoden of Rohan - 2/13/2004 10:57:25 AM

Well, there's more changes that I need to iron out as well. The whole logistics thing is kind of weird. Now, starbases cost more and more as you build more and there's no maintainence cost. I have to plan on having some money in my treasury when I'm building SBs now, instead of how I'm going to pay for them in the future.

Oh, and I haven't even seen the new ships yet...

#223  by Citizen Paguma - 2/13/2004 12:02:14 PM

Do they just always cost more, or just if you are increasing the number of starbases?

For example, if I have 10 starbases, and I disband all of them, and then build another one. Does it cost what the 11th would have cost, or am I back down to 1?

If the former is true, then the logistics don't make sense to me. If it's the latter it doesn't actually solve the problem with culture bombing.

Good question...I didn't get far enough into it to disband any of my SBs. I wonder if anyone else has tried this...
