Have a great trip.

Really doing the coast to coast theme

But Loth is off on holiday for that means by the time he gets back only 3,500,001 points between us and 1st

Until he submits all the games he's played while away - he's taking his laptop with him just for that very reason.

In the meantime, we have a whole new bunch submitting 60K bombs now, so 10 million is looking a very realistic target.

A quick game for me on tiny takes 2 hours. You are indicating that you can get a game done from Gigantic/Maso in under 3 hours? Can you please give me an overview on how you accomplish this feat ... please.

It takes me about 6 hours to complete a game on large so I also do not know how people are doing it. Mind you I play a more passive role in the game. I am not that agressive. I think it is as Tech mentions about cheese. People know the quick little things to help them win quicker.

OK you know I am really not all that happy with some of the things I done.

This is real reason why I do not want to talk about it.

As I said many times I was happy playing normal games but was sick of losing my place in the standings. So I decided if I could not beat them join them. For better or worse my old style of playing was deemed worthless.

There are two parts in winning a 60000 point maso on gigantic in 3 hours.

It becomes a formula.

Agression is a must, expand as much as possible and as quick as possible. Meet Aliens you have to bribe, bribe and bribe.

The second part is the cheese, the tatics are often explained.

Some of the things I often do which I do not like talking about.

1) Cheat when I start.

It is well known that aliens know where the resources are and habitible planets are. You can know where to go how many resources you can grab etc...

a) Start a game
b) Save it
c) turn cheat keys on
d) continue game
e) press ctrl U
f) You can see where the minors and majors are, the good planets and resources. If I can not grab 6-7 systems or decide the aliens will be too strong I press Ctnr N and go to b)

Here is another piece of cheese if I am going to be a mouse...

a) save games when you start building a trade good.
b) Keep saving the game
c) If you get the trade good great but if an alien gets in first restore an earlier game and rush buy..

Final piece of cheese for rodents lurking around.

a) Make sure games are saved often, manually automatic saves only gives two restore points.
b) Get an event, for example at random intervals the game will decide you need to go to war. Restore the saved game.

Today the CSF is not serving Torian we are serving cheese sandwiches.

Anybody else want to confess the CSF thread is where you can hang up your mouse ears.

Do you give them money, influence points or tech? How much? How often?

a) Make sure games are saved often, manually automatic saves only gives two restore points

I do not know what you mean by this. Saving a game gives you points? Does restoring a save take them away? Huh? Very confused.

It still seems that you have a lot of work to do to get a Gigantic game finished in 3 hours or less. What else are you doing?

I just played a game that will not let me submit to the metaverse. When I submit it sits on the submission screen like normaly then instead of returning the "successful submission it just goes to the GALCIV main menu screen. I hate to lose the points.

#2281  by Citizen littlewotts_ - 4/24/2004 4:45:00 PM

I've been finding I have to submit a game 2 or 3 times to get it to go through.

Actually, other than the old cutture bombing, I don't use any cheese. I'm winning about 2/3 of the games where I get a reasonable start. Others, I quit within the 1st 15-20 min because it's obvious the AI got a much better starting position.

That being said, I've lost my last two good start games... Maybe I should start cheesing it up!

Don't feel bad about it. The AI cheats and you use cheese. Many people do in one way or another.

[Getting on the soap box]

I really get tired of hearing the developers say that the AI doesn't cheat it just gets bigger bonuses when you select MASO. That is bull. It is just a politically correct way of saying the AI cheats. AI culture bonuses are way too high, the production bonus is out of this world and why can the AI sometimes continue to pump out ships when it has spent itself way below Zero funds? Because ... it cheats. Why does the AI know where all the planets and resources are when the game starts? Because developers still can't build even a dumb AI. It takes too much programming to build the smarts to search for habital planets and then to know when to stop searching and start research, production and ship building. Therefore they have to cheat.

******

[fell through soap box because I got too worked up]

Having said all that, I still think that galciv is the best space game of all time of its type just slightly ahead of MOO2.

Oh, and Tech, I don't think the stuff you said is why you finish fast. That's why you win. You probably finish fast for the same reason I do. You're willing to press the turn button faster than most people. It really is as simple as that. You don't have to look at your empire every turn. You don't have to change builds, every turn. Use governers, and then you only need to manage when your ultimate goals change.

I play Huge games right now because my computer doesn't handle Gigantic very well, and you get the same points for Huge anyway. It takes me anywhere from 1.5-> 3 hours to play a Huge game.

Ok, I'll bite. How do you use the govenors?

I use a govenor ... only one. He gets my build list for every planet which is the same. I only build what I consider benificial. I usually only build the ship techs at one or two of my high production planets.

The govenors build list
soil enhancement
banking
manufacturing center
habitat improvement
fusion power plant
research lab
economic exchange
entertainment center
antimatter power plant
stock market
teleporters
terraforming
Trade center - does this exist anymore? I have not seen it since I installed v1.20.

I of course build all the galactic wonders and trade goods that I can.

I normally press mine for ten-twenty turns without doing a thing, you get a feel for it and you can get a game finished in under an hour on huge

Exactly,

As far as bribing is concerned I give an Alien race 100BC for 10 months when the race is nuetral.

#2288  by Citizen damoose - 4/24/2004 5:56:21 PM

OK. I'll bite... reload cheese is the flavour of the day. And I like the Apha Strike cheese flavour of the moment. Do a strike at some AI then sue for peace and ask it for all the planets and tech. Works half the time. If not reload wait 6 months and repeat. Mmmmm cheese!

Take me days to finish a game. I'm lucky to finish 2 a month. I press enter then I look around. If I don't soon enough I'm at war. And I can't win a war until late game at maso.

So I'm resigned to 2 games a month. I just cannot stop myself from looking around each time I press that key. Clone Wars was a very tough time for the RW.

#2289  by Diplomat Technician - 4/24/2004 6:05:02 PM

I usually only build the ship techs at one or two of my high production planets.

I build some military ship usually on each system, constructor, frieghters, defensive ships on the low military output systems.

The governer to me is useless.
I build a queue much like you described but everything is in my queue.
a)Build the queue press the turn button many times.
b)After a news item or when I get a new tech see I a minor race wants to trade techs, add them to the queue. See if major races are friends, if not bribe and goto a)

The major social production planets build the trade goods and wonders.

Now I'm confused! It always does that for me - never seen a "successful submission" message, ever, in 109 submitted games????

Tech, any particular reason why you play gigantic maps?
60k alliance wins are easily possible on huge (check out my profile), and I can bang 'em out in about an hour now.

Not really, habit more than any other reason.

When win a game I always back it up. If the submittion fails I try again.

It does in AP anyway.

Yeah, they changed it. You don't see confirmations anymore.

Ok, I'll bite. How do you use the govenors?

Not very differently than you. I usually only have one governor. My build list looks something like this. (NOTE: I have done no testing on optimizing, it's just what I feel works for me)

soil enhancement
manufacturing center
habitat improvement
entertainment center
fusion power plant
banking
antimatter power plant
economic exchange
embassy
research lab
cultural center
multimedia center
stock market
teleporters
terraforming
harmony generator
virutal reality center

I would rather not build the embassy and cultural center, but inevitably one of my neighbors tries to absorb me culturally and I am forced to.

I still get confirmations on v1.20 it is just this latest game that I have been trying to submit just won't go. I will try to send it in one more time then I will start a new game.

I have not done an alliance win for over 100 games. I think I will try one tonight if I can.
