AP Beta can play a 60K game in an hour

Not quite an hour but definately before 90mins, using a mixture of tactics.

Looks like AP is full of holes you can exploit

I've got about 1 MB free in my mailbox, so if you can get the save in, I'm: EmailI don't mind it being only painful difficulty - with the situation you're in, it'll be harder than any of my regular games.

Matthew Downie, I've sent you the savedgame. last night (my time). If you make some expectacular breakthrough, let me know. I expect finishing it myself today or tomorrow -- one way or another. Installing 1.2 is a good incentive to speed thing up.

Nastavnik: try migrating to Australia - we'll talk to ya!

Hey Nastavnik...

I'm here as well. Well at work anyway.

Nastavnik, I tried out your save game, the Invasion Success one. It's far from a hopeless situation. Your military resource starbases give you a significant edge. I set spending to 100% (all military), set up a few trade routes with the Torians and got Tri-Strontium Steel and a +1 speed technology off them for techs, built a terror star in the middle of three of the Arcean stars and blew one up, destroyed about fifty corvettes, destroyed an Excalibur with antimatter missiles... Unfortunately, I hadn't realised that the Torians were allied to the Arceans. They joined the war on the Arcean side. But by this time, I'd built up my military and reduced the Arceans' enough that he'd bribe me for peace. That left the problem that the Torians were still at war with me and would eventually drag the Arceans back in on their side.
At that point, I clicked on Next Turn and the game crashed.

It's more likeky that I'll go back to Brazil. . And if I go to Australia, I think I'll only be in the same time zone with you aussies, and off with every one else here, no? .

Hi vincible. Sleep tight!

I'm here as well. Well at work anyway.

Me too, and still 5 hours to go. And so much work that I can already say that it will be (unfortunatelly) a busy week end .

As I told you, couldn't play yesterday. But today I will. My plans were to do exactly that: destroy these 3 star systems, hoping to cripple them enough to sue for peace. But... if the torians get in the war (finally ; usually allies come in a few turns after it starts) that will make things tougher.
These 2 starbases weren't such an edge till I destroied their arceans counterparts.
I guess I'll proceed as planned, since it worked for you. And will keep an eye on those torians. I think I have some transports left somewhere, and a few AMM to take out 2 or 3 of their huge starbases I had located near their planets (in sector2-2 or 3-2).
And I'll try sending the freighters I prepared already to them (torians).
When did they declared war on you? After the TS attack?

And thanks for the advices

Edit: on the 100% spending: for how long did you keep it that way? IIRC, the deficit must have been +/- 1000 per month at least. So only about 18 months of building, after that no treasury left... I didn't try it (thus my defensive war, in my SB sector and around my planets) because I was afraid of not being able to replace lost ships and not having money to sue for peace if i found myself in a desperate situation.

I think they declared war one turn before I used the TS.
Might even be worth declaring war on the Torians yourself - that way you can destroy their starbases when it suits you. (They have starbases in inconvenient places that stop you building T Stars wherever you want.)
Money lying around in your treasury does no good. What you need is more missiles and combat tranports, fast. The war with the Arceans only went on for 4-5 months, so I didn't come close to running out. I also shoved taxes up to 50% (and built combat tranports to reduce the population pressure on any planet with bad morale).
Another thing to watch out for - your system in the top right sector is at risk of flipping. Make sure you take down the Arcean political capital.

Will do so!

I think that system is the one I just invaded. Once the 3 others are taken out, it will ease the pressure on them.

It's fun to hear a strategy discussiion. I am on the US West Coast so it is 8 am here - good morning for me but maybe Nastavnik is finally off work.

Dropped another 60k gig maso in the tally today. FotR looks pretty solid for 3rd place at the moment. I am getting hungry to get that 100th game. Too bad that fleet admiral is the top rank. 100 games and 600,000 or 700,000 on the personal profile would make a good new ranking. Not sure how Wombie has 200 games AND a painful shield. Yowza! Monster player for sure.

And Jaws . . . what an animal. Sly as a fox and wrists/hands/fingers of steel to play so well and so often. Plus I better enjoy 5th place until Greldon tramples me. Even when I wear a splint on my right wrist at night for my tendonitis, I can only get out 2 games or so per week before I need to give it up and go watch TV or something. Too bad the FotR has to endure such and old, creaky overlord. .

Well there fellow ringlets, we are going to do the March competition teamed up with Theoden and the Knights of Templar plus the Diplomats. You may want to check out the thread that will describe the action, the first clone war http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?id=136739&BID=GE&page=1#138615 Link

There is room for non-maso players to strut their stuff too while Matthew and I will be seeing Jaws, Jaxom, & Aaberg slap us around on maso. Tune up your strategies and warm up your engines.

I'm at home now. But the work has followed me here, and will be visiting me this week end...

But this evening, till 22:30 I'll be fighting Arceans in a struggle to the death .
After that there is finally the first episodes of the final season of Oz -- a great show. Sometimes, US productions amazes me -- this is so far away from the mainstream that the first time I saw it I was . Do you guys know it?

Edit: when I say Oz, I don't mean the one with the yellow bricks...

Yes.
Very impressive, very well done. very strong. Very violent but in a realistic way, which makes it worse I guess.

At first I thought it was very exagerated, "even US prisons cannot be like that" but a few months after I had that thought, there was a book published here in france, about a french prison, and what was described there (by the prison's doctor) was just like oz. So it gives it a new relevance. And there are lots of facts presented in there about the US encarceration system. It is informative (I checked some of the data they present from time to time). If crude violance doesn't scare you it is definetally worth seeing. And even if it does scare you, it is still worth it. And from what I've seen in "bowling for Colombine" it cannot be worse than the everyday tv news ( )

Yes, I've seen Oz. It's a very convincing argument for not getting caught.

Been trying v1.2. The AI seems very eager to declare war on you, if, for example, you park a combat transport next to a minor's planet a couple of sectors away from one of his.

Choose Your Own Adventure Booze Raid

~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Strange objects are descending on your castle. It’s those “space vessels” again. Well guests are always welcome so you head out to welcome the visitors. Unfortunately, these are very rude visitors. They keep demanding booze and they’ve killed several knights already. What will you do?

a) It’s time for some magic. “Be gone pesky vermin” should do the trick... if you can remember how to cast that particular spell. Go to post #51 in the “Forget about those sissy empires!” thread.

b) You go to your “happy place”. No one can bother you when you’re at your “happy place”. Go to post #23 in the “How do I find out about diplomatic relations” thread.

c) It’s all good. Hard drinkers are always welcome at your castle. You even put on a light show for them. Go to post #32 in the “Empires so tiny there not even ranked” thread.

Exam went about as I expected. But project was subject to some frantic revision recently when we got quotes back from companies that were over 50% higher than we were willing to pay. This is really cutting into my video-gaming time.
