Oz is a really amazing show. I saw the first two seasons on DVD and will rent the third when it is out. I also saw a really great movie last night called Purple Rose of Cairo, an American flick circa 1984-85.

Started a new gig maso but it may be a few days before I can budget time to finish it? I am trying to play more so it will be slightly longer before I lose ground.

I am not particular about our alliance name. Maybe the Fellowship of Galactic Diplomats or something? .

Matthew, you should be thrilled now that you have the most difficult version of Gal Civ. Let us know how your game goes.

Yeah, I remember that film. Directed by Woody Allen. Its satirical destruction of the fourth wall disguises a bittersweet lesson on Hollywood dreams and the unpleasant realities they hide. (OK, I plagiarised a summary I found on the internet just now, but I do remember it.)

Maybe the Fellowship of Galactic Diplomats or something?

Or the Diplomatic Guardians of the Fellowship?

One of these days I'll work out where the Diplomats forum is. And maybe after that, I'll work out how to attach a picture to my character.

Game is still too easy. Playing a Huge galaxy. Had just three planets, base PQs 17, 16 and 13. Stayed at peace, and after a while captured a few Minor capital worlds. The Yor declared war on me when I parked a transport next to the Alexians, and destroyed my expeditionary fleet, but I bribed everyone to declare war on him, and built a few antimatter missiles as a deterrant, and was able to make peace.
The I-League have now appeared, and are willing to pay money for techs, so I should soon be rich enough to do a terror star alpha strike.

It's not available for sale over here. So I have to wait till some friends go to the states and buy it for me. The last time I bought several dvd's on import, I almost had a fit when I had to pay the taxes in the post office...

Has anyone here installed 1.2? I am waiting till I finish my game, but after reading the bug report, I am thinking about waiting a little. HAs anyone had serious problems with it? (I usually don't have problems, with any of the versions, but you never know...).

Matthew, it does sound easy when you tell it...

I did yesterday and played a whole game with no problems, still the bug about your ships getting on top of the planets is there.

I read that, then forgot where I'd read it or what I'd read.

I don't mind that. Psychologically speaking, 10 is way better than 11.

It's going take a quite a bit more effort to surpass Wombie, though, to get to #8.

...definately slower movement inside #10.

Matthew Downie, it seems you were right. My situation wasn't desperate. It was more like a tough moment, but once I managed to survive it, even if sometimes it was really close, I managed to beat the torian-arcean alliance.

but I did have some help: there was a draginol event just after I took over a planet, they were at war with eveyone, and since I had enough problems on my hands, I offered peace and ask for some hard money. It did pay for the rest of the war. They were destroied just a few turns after, but that money made things a lot easier (I was almost broke at that point).
In the end, the torians surrendered when my terror star entered their last quadrant (I invaded the others). The arceans settled for peace when my 22 transports entered the range of their 2 last star systems. The terms of the peace were: you give me your last planets and in exchange we don't invade them. They wrere a lot less arrogant than when they started the war

And apparently it gave me a new tough-shield though I cannot be sure about it (challenging and tough colors are very much alike, and I never paid that much attention)

Edit: it seems to me that AP scores are definitely higher (or should I say inflated )

The depature of Aaberg (600K) to the Centurions has helped a lot

Yes! We succeed where it counts!
Game theorem dictated that the only sensible course of action was for me to cede ninth place to Alexus, thus boosting his confidence and giving him the help he needed to recruit the Euros' top player to his cause. This should also aid us in the forthcoming alliance tournament.

The next stage in my plan is involves calculating psychological profiles for members of the Special Forces to discover what their ideal computer game is. I will then trick them into playing these games and getting so addicted, they won't play GalCiv any more, thus preventing them accumulating any more points.

After that... Well, I won't go into details, but it involves generating a powerful electromagnetic pulse at a key location.
