Everyone knows that the Fellowship blows

That was BRILLIANT Matthew, just need to read it with a Welsh accent and an 8 ft leek in your hand

I had to tone down the dialect words for the international market, you understand.

Playing an odd game of GalCiv right now...
Once again, I chose all military picks and War Party. Because of this, and a mediocre startpoint, I got off to a slow start. I was beaten to Grav Accel and Eyes of the Universe by the Torians. Very hard to keep up with tech when I got such bad trade deals (low diplomacy), and I couldn't afford to bribe anyone to war. The Yor declared war on me but were very far away so I ignored them. Eventually, they got a combat transport into range of one of my best star and if the randomness had come out differently, I'd have lost it. But then they were in a war with the Altarians and offered peace. I managed to make up for my lack of territory by conquering a minor, and then the Drengin surrendered their world to me.
But my alignment was distinctly neutral, and for some reason, the Torians decided to attack me instead of the Yor (as would have made more sense). They had far more ships and strength than me. I was on the verge of giving up. I'd managed to get hold of Dreadnaught tech, so I wasn't worried, just started building missiles as usual. But then I found out their better scan range and speed meant they could destroy my missiles before I saw them coming. I was on the verge of giving up, until I realised that my military bonuses were so far ahead, their Rangers weren't tough enough to beat my combat transports. I went 100% military and began to gather my forces. Just as I was catching up with them in total military strength and they were about to offer me peace, their allies the Altarians joined the war. Not that they were any better at fighting, and their worlds were conveniently located. I took two of their three systems, and was finally able to make peace with both allies in one turn.
Now I'm in an excellent position in terms of worlds, and just one problem - no trade income, since all the surviving AIs have been at war with me recently. I'm having to cut my spending and bribery is not much of an option.
What's strange to me is that I feel like I'm playing the game as it was meant to be played, for the first time in ages. Normally my wars are fought entirely with missiles or are over in one turn, and the AIs are too busy fighting each other to bother me.

Does this mean you're having...FUN?

Sounds sort of like the game I played last night. I couldn't seem to get the upper hand until the very end of the game...

Matthew, thanks for the poem and for playing. Nastavnik congrats on the maso. It becomes habit forming but you can work your way up to all incredible as you please. I am looking forward to the non-beta AP with seven majors.

I have been busy parts of the last two days putting a new hard drive in my wife's computer (easy) plus putting all the software back on (laborious). In addition to the drivers, it's amazing how many critical updates there are for Windows 98 and various MS Office 2000 products. Whew. It's working OK now and we lost no data so I can go back to computer games.

I have a 60k game cooking and should be done in about 2 hours, which could be today or tomorrow. We are in the lead in the clone war so it is good to be back in the lead concerning some aspect of one's life. .

Have fun.

...With my limited resources, I researched Conglomorates and gave it as a gift to everyone. I built a load of freighters and sent them out, then managed to build a couple of economics bonus bases. This got me up from 11% to 35% spending. Then, using the leftover weapons from the last war, I brought a fleet together to take out both the Altarian worlds in a single turn. The war was over before the Torians had a chance to join in, and I captured Torian-Altarian trade routes. The Torians were now trashing the Yor, and I decided to beat them to it. I had just enough combat transports to do the job. Not a single Yor was spared.
So now I have a reasonable trade income from the Torians and two minors, and can probably win at leisure. Which is no fun at all.

It's a song, not a poem. LiverLumpMonster will hum the tune for you if you want.

We are first place in the clone wars. And I finally posted 100 games so have a new trinket. I like the part in the clone wars where all levels count. Time for some TV and bed. 'night.

Hello Ric! thanks! I think there is another update to the beta this week. I hope its good and still stable.
About the computer thing I can relate: I have two of them, that I tried to put on a wireless network, and the damn thing keeps crashing (rebooting). I think I'll have to go through with the re-installation of everything

take out both the Altarian worlds in a single turn. The war was over before the Torians had a chance to join in, and I captured Torian-Altarian trade routes. Impressive coming back Matthew!

Ric, I just noticed your new medal. Congrats to you too!

It seems we are well ahead in the clone wars !

The good news for me is that after spending so many nights working, I got an insomnia crisis this night and couldn't sleep at all. Actually that's not the good news. The good news is that it gave me reason to not go to work today. So'll probably get several chances to play. Which means the Yor will have less than a chance to survive through out this day: as Clint would put it in some movie, "I'm sick, I'm tired and I'm armed, so be careful!" . This is a warning to all Yor around!

N: If you're playing again, and go back to crippling, you'll help us in the one Clone Wars league we're currently behind on.

I think it's in "In the line of fire"

And Matt, yes that's what I had in mind (last night I saw that we were a bit behind. I've already started that crippling. Unfortunatelly I don't play nearly as fast as some of you guys do

The number of times you've asked that question.

No, really, 2004.

I have a game I am working on, and I do most of my trading with the minors, so I don't lose my trade at the end, but the minors are gone already, so I am just not trading with anyone myself. The trade routes the AIs establish are there, but I think there are only 5. I've never tried this before, but somehow my spending is about the same, 60% taxes, 100% morale, 100% spending. But its harder than before. Very little free money. I think I like it more.
