I am experimenting now with 3 pure good and 3 pure evil and one neutral.

#1203  by Citizen Matthew Downie - 4/8/2004 3:50:08 PM

After I have couple of allies and 2 or 3 of the rest on friendly I bribe them to attack each other

Don't your allies drag you into wars?

#1204  by Veteran Disciple777 - 4/8/2004 3:51:07 PM

No, I don't send my allies to war, I send the other guys. Remember they are 7 races now. I have 2 allies and 4 at war and one extra race that I keep feeding nice present to keep them in friendly.

#1205  by Veteran Primipilus Alexus - 4/8/2004 3:51:45 PM

how do you win your many alliance victories

I don't ally with any - build my economy, bribe hard and regular to keep them all friendly and then grab the lot at one go - usually Jan 2190. A sort of alliance alpha-strike!

And that's the way to do it. In a low war or pacifist game this is easy to do since you can get them to friendly via trade (and/or low level bribes paid out over the course of many, many turns) even if there is some alignment differences. Just don't let the aliens form any broad reaching alliances just in case a war is required to take out a potential hold-out at the last minute. But, hey, I am happy with culture bombs in case I can't swing an alliance.

#1207  by Citizen Matthew Downie - 4/10/2004 7:56:48 AM

No, still didn't work. I tried setting all AIs to pure good, which didn't help much as I only found one world in the initial colonisation rush, despite the Huge galaxy, and that was a PQ 14, so the lack of events kept my alignment neutral for ages, which meant all the AIs looked down on me. Despite eventually reaching pure good and getting a diplomacy bonus of 250% towards the end, I still couldn't get people from Friendly to Close, even with a bribe of 15000BC. Had to resort to buying up all the influence starbases in the galaxy and winning in 2201 or so.

Try a bribe of eg 2000 for 10000000 months - works wonders. If it succeeds its an instant win, so actually paying it isn't an issue.

I've seen several people say that going past 99 months doesn't have any effect. Is that incorrect Alex? Thanks for the tip

Presumably it has to succeed for every race left in the game simultaneously?

Joining the first place alliance does feel like cheating, doesn't it? Maybe that'll stop the Guardians recruiting anyone else. But I doubt it.

I think those of our bent are far outnumbered by the bandwaggoners who will join an empire merely because it's on its way up or already there.

I joined no one. I formed G.R.O.S.S. because at the time, the meta consisted of mainly "Live here, join us, empires." with the occasional "we have a snazzy website dedicated to Civilization so join us empires" Neither of these really appealled to me. Oh I suppose I could have formed the United States star empire or something. I am Patriotic. But given numbers, that would have been a permanent first place with 5,000 members by now, and really wouldn't have required much thought or effort. So that's not very sporting. There were one or two actual themed empires but that was about it and they weren't active.

#1212  by Veteran Captain Jack Sparrow - 4/10/2004 11:41:42 AM

In blatant violation of the agreed rules of when recruitment is permissible, I need hardly add...

I don't think there are any agreed rules. But I never seriously go after someone unless they express an interest first. If we all adhere to that, the meta would be a better place.

Consider yourself disenfranchised. If you have any objections, may I recommend a hunger strike? They're very dignified.

Oh he has a vote, WHERE IT COUNTS...And though hunger strikes may be ok, Booze strikes are totally out of the question.

Out of the park

No wait.. Mays goes up ROBBED!!!! He Robbed him of a home run!!!!.

OH man. It's bad when you do the 3,2,1 and get it stolen. wtg Renegade!!!!.

Matt. Smaller bribes over longer periods do better. But once you get em to friendly and it's past 2190, you can save, give em all a huge one then ally. Poof, game over.

I usually use the allied victory when I'm stuck in a corner and it's a long distance (and hence time) to send the boom booms to the opposite corner. It usually gets 53k or so. But on the new, I see it's getting to the 60k. I better go by Drengin soon. I'll go ahead and boom them to oblivion if I got a good start and I'm in the middle as it wont take very long. BTW, you can change your allignment by, Create Colony ship with one person on it. Colonize an other wise bad planet, Take whichever event you want, then disband the planet. As I am still on an old version which requires gigantic maps to get the 60k, it's not an issue for me. But it may be on huge and smaller.

Yes it must. But it always does. Make sure you save prior just in case. Oh and never ally with anyone before you decide to ally with em all. You'll be at war soon if you do.

Great idea! I'll form the Stars & Stripes empire, and as long as no-one notices I'm not American, I'll rule the metaverse! Then, when no-ones watching, I'll sneakily rename it 'the Fellowship'.

Florida?

Colonize an other wise bad planet

There was a rule in one version that sub PQ10 planets didn't count... Not sure if that's there in AP.
I did eventually make it to pure good by colonising PQ10+ planets across the galaxy, once I got the range. But I didn't disband them, since they helped me culturally conquer everyone who wouldn't ally with me.

never ally with anyone before you decide to ally with em all. You'll be at war soon if you do.

Not when you set everyone to pure good! At least, that's what I thought... Then I got a Drath-shooting-the-Altarian-ambassador event.
Still, you can always refuse to honour your alliance commitments.

(4) Find out if it's possible to have the leadership officially transferred to me. Anyone know?

I haven't finished catching up on the thread yet, so i don't know if anybody else posted on this yet, but i remember G-Force taking over the Euros, by emailing the SDC's probably, T-Man.

And think that you would make a fine emperor, Downie

Ray said in the past he'd be coming back when AP was released... you should probably email him before going ahead with anything.

You would need to anyway. T-Man can switch emperors around, but he needs e-mail from the current emperor and the replacement saying it is OK.

Naaah In our empire. I believe he actually lives in the pacific Northwest.

Besides, anyone who can actually read a ballot and punch a stylus correctly had their vote count.

On my version, The rule that was put in was when you colonize a planet say and get the +pq event, if you decolonize, it doesn't count. Ie it resets to it's original value rather than teh event value so that you can't make a 5 into a 15 by repeatedly abandoning and recolonizing. But your alignment still changes.

P.S. I don't know if the stars and stripes thing would work now. It certainly would have then. But the mass of brand new players may be a bit low now.
