I guess I'll leave 1400 to you.

No, you help yourself.

Oh, too late.

I will try the campaign, vincible. The standard game no longer hold any attraction for me. I don't even feel like completing that Tiny game now that Metaverse points are rather pointless for me.

Was just chatting with Killa yesterday about how it is a pity that there are few Galcivers over at Star Chamber and that we are unable to continue this kind of camaraderie over there.

Our Galciv D&D game was fun for a while but I think the DM is getting too busy for us so it's more or less died off.

Anybody think it is possible for people here to band together to continue our adventures with another interesting game?

Pointless points? My recent games, I've kept interesting by timing myself and trying to beat my own record.
I was trying out a free Massive Online Game called Runescape today. Looks like it might be good fun, but I think it would be difficult to band together a group of Galcivers on something like that, unless we were all living in the same country. The same applies to any live-action game.
So what we really need is a strategy game - we all like them - with a good community built around it. Or one without a community, and we build the community ourselves.

There's always the Political Machine...but it's still a little while off. There will be an option to create "empires" and compete, once they've got the PM Metaverse done.

Just a thought.

Played the beta, didn't enjoy it.

They're still working on it. Even Froggy thinks the AI needs serious work. I think they're just trying to get the mechanics working right now.

Yeah, I'd say it's got potential, but it's not a fun game yet.

I don't think the atmosphere of the Political Machine forums is conducive to community building, though.

Maybe they just need us to show them how.

I hadn't noticed the AI. My problems with it were (a) Everything was a hassle to do; nothing seemed to happen automatically (imagine if in GalCiv every time you wanted to do some research you had to click on a planet, then click on a Do Some Research button). (b) Nothing I did seemed to have much obvious impact.

The only way I notice something is when the place turns blue. Yeah blue!

Megan's still around... I'll give her a nudge if you want....

For Internet game competition, I prefer cards and play spades several times per week at http://hoylegames.sierra.com/index.jsp Link

You can build up a lot of comaradirie (sp?) playing cards. The two folks I partner with have been my spades partners for years but live thousands of miles away.

The few times I have gotten bored with Gal Civ was when I didn't have music on. One thing that makes Gal Civ so great is the sound is irrelevant. So shut off the sounds and put on some Mozart concertos or whatever you like and playing Gal Civ becomes a lot more fun.

Hope this helps people enjoy Gal Civ even more, plus it gives the computer a bit of a break if the player gets distracted now and then listening to music. It takes longer but so what. Just have fun. The empire is fun even to see if we can stay in fifth. We certainly were number one for quite a while so let's share the wealth. The personal goals are also fun like getting fleet admiral or a million mpts but we don't want to take this too seriously.

Ray and vincible, it is great to see you post. Sorry about Weyrleader going to the Guardians, but that is his choice. Thanks for being a FotR member, Weyrleader. Matthew, are there others besides us currently submitting games for the FotR?

I agree. My hope is that once someone writes a instruction manual/strategy guide that things will be clearer.

As for online gaming, I'm not much of a card-player, but I play chess intermittently on Yahoo, and Starcraft even more intermittently. A lot of people I know are getting into poker, but I'm violently allergic to losing money, so that's not for me.

Not that I'm aware of, but I can't remember how to make the statbot tell me.

Statbot at http://altmeta.galciv.org Link reads a Gibbie99 who has submitted two games this month. But besides that person and the two of you, nobody has submitted.

Use the altmeta.galciv.org - http://altmeta.galciv.org Link - look at raw scores by empire...

Gibbie99... Looks like he's played a couple of games recently after a nine month break. I wonder if he reads the forums. If you're around, Gibbie, say "Hi!"

On the plus side, my plan to destroy the Guardians is going quite well. I've got half of them convinced that being a Guardian is incompatible with playing for an alliance victory unless you first eradicate the Yor. If I can leverage this into irreconcilable split, who knows how many recruits we could attract?

Some people seem to always believe their own hype, or as we say in government contracting business - drink their own bathwater

But that may be an assumption I shouldn't make

The new beta of Political Machine has fixed a couple of gameplay issues. It's not such a pushover anymore. It still is crashing on my machine though...wish they could figure out why.

Just have fun. The empire is fun even to see if we can stay in fifth. We certainly were number one for quite a while so let's share the wealth. The personal goals are also fun like getting fleet admiral or a million mpts but we don't want to take this too seriously.

Rick, this is a great attitude to have! It's exactly the way I think (although we're in first now). Of course, without another empire within lightyears of us, we're all just playing for personal goals. I just got my 100 win medal, which was one of my personal goals. I also think the Guardians will reach 15 million points sometime soon...that's a definite goal. And we're still contemplating a Good vs. Evil Guardian competition, which will shake things up a bit.

I hope the Fellowship gets hopping again. I'd especially like to read some more stories...like the ones we used to write.

Oh yes... Now that I understand clearly. Much like being allergic to exercise.
