We probably have. I have found many that don't work. But I have also found extreme ones that do.

Have what?

Just tried out another novelty modded game. I gave the pacifist party an extra little bonus - +500%PQ. For some reason, all the (major) AIs decided to pick this party too. The game was still reasonably fair (except the AIs didn't realise that you could colonise a PQ 12 and get a PQ 72), and interestingly different. I had taxes at 100% the whole time, and still got 100% morale, even without building morale booster buildings. You have to be careful with money, because your planets spend it at an enormous rate. Tech progress is very fast - researching Evolution Control took three turns.
And when I finally won, I found my game was flagged as anomalous! What did I do wrong?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Someone has found bribes so big that they don't work.

Hey Matthew, I think you tripped the PQ flag in the Status page. Can you play the game again, or at least reload the endgame and before ending, check the status page and see if the Planet Quality metric is over 40. If it is, and I suspect it is, that is what tripped the anomolous game score.

see if the Planet Quality metric is over 40.

It was 510. Do you think that might have had something to do with it?

As for the extra ship attack for a ship defending a planet: the defending ship has to live long enough to fire back! There is a little extra bonus because of the raised attack value, but I still find it more effective to interdict the aliens before they get to the planet or taking all the ships out of orbit and having them fade away into the back line unless a transport that you can't win against is inbound. No transport, no lost planet (unless you get culture flipped, of course). No lost planet, no need to throw ships away defending it. Guerilla warfare, Galciv style.

That's not the type of situation I was thinking about. I was attacking a planet with Battle Hammers, and he had Frigates defending. I had att 8, def 6, he had att 12, def 5. He ought to have been doing at least 50% more damage than me per attack, and the first attack advantage would have only given me a lead of a few HP. In fact, one Battle Hammer destroyed a defending Frigate with only minor damage. I think it's a bug. Must do some more tests... I usually win without ever getting involved in a fair fight.

I thought only the defense doubled when a ship was at a planet, not the attack. I wonder if any of the defense improvements augment the ships defense, or only when an invasion occurs.

They're supposed to only help in an invasion.
Try launching or landing any ship and you'll see the attack change.

Nope.

Matthew, I tried out the 'Saint Pack', and I think it's great. The game took much less time to get to 100 morality.

#1565  by Citizen Matthew Downie - 6/28/2004 5:21:17 AM

Hey, they finally certified it! I hadn't realised. Great!
They say it 'equires' the removal of all your current events. This isn't really true - I just recommend it so you can be sure you're rid of all those lame events that don't give you significant morality shifts.
Also, be warned, it contains a couple of extremely silly events.

Anyone else who wants it can go here:

I think the 'silly' events are the best. Nothing like exploding Jar-Jar and getting positive morality.

No, the evil points are for torturing him on pay-per-view TV, so only the rich get to enjoy it.

Glad you are playing the mods and having fun. I am just discovering the Huge Alliance victory on AP and it is quite strange after playing so many military victory conditions. It is getting easier each time I stumble through it.

Saw a very funny DVD of Jerry Seinfeld doing stand-up. It was called: "I'm telling you for the last time." - on Broadway in New York from around 1998 or so. What a great rental for some chuckles.

I should get that.

All the Seinfeld episodes are coming out on DVD this fall. Finally.

Want some good stand-up? Look for the "Blue Color Comedy Tour" or "Robin Williams: Live on Broadway." Two of my favorites.
