I am not as fast as several - sort of "half-fast" |

Hey richbayer, don't learn too fast, I was hoping to catch up with you (and then pass you in the night ).
Did you have one too many "f" letters in the above qutoe?

Look who's talking! Slow down!

Yes Weyrleader, you got it right. I just can't seem to get in too big of a hurry to play or it gets too mechanical and monotonous. Finally into eighth place until you guys pass me up. .

Just saw another movie worth recommending, called "The Spanish Prisoner". Believe it or not, Steve Martin plays a serious role really well. It's a fun movie.
FotR hangs in there at fifth place.

Besides, Terminator has some of the coolest movie music in my opinion. I love that opening theme song.
1.49 was a good build. I didn't notice really any difference with 1.50, but I know 1.51 has fixed the bribing situation. You can only do it for 50 months now. So I may drop back to 1.50 or 1.49 eventually.

Vision. The Terminator music is perfect for the movie. I had forgotten how good it was. It was also part sci-fi, part horror, part action-adventure, and a well-paced movie. It's definitely above-average sci-fi. .
Thanks for the information on the newer AP builds.

No problem. I try to be everywhere.
Have you seen the 3rd movie? Worst ending to a movie ever.

The first movie in a series is usually the best, but there are exceptions. Star Wars, X-Men are two. The second one of the Terminator series is a good movie, but I would say not as good as the first. Arnold does better as the murderer than the savior.

T2 is not as good as the first. Arnold does better as the bad robot errrr cyborg. There is the interesting twist that Arnold is now a good reprogramed terminator, and the new cyborg does have new abilities, but it just seemed like more of the same. Oh the effects were better, and it closed some of the story line, but the first was the most interesting.
T3 is a decent movie and connects the story nicely, but it really doesn't break any real new ground. It takes place about 10 years after T2 when Conner has grown into a young man. It's a been there done that regarding the new bad cyborg and its abilities. It has the requisite chases and spills and thrills, but that's about it. I wouldn't deadpan it as most critics did, but if you don't care about connecting the story, Don't go out of your way to see it. Although there is a twist in that the Bad Cyborg is quite a bit better looking than in T2.
For my movie of the week, I saw Super Troopers, a check your brain at the door sophomoric comedy.
It was ok but there are far better in that genre. I give it a 5 out of 10 on the check your brain at the door comedy scale. That translates to a 0.2 on the actual scale.

Patrick was awful in X-files when Duchovney left and Patrick is barely acceptable as a mute brute (the T1000 model terminator |
|
After Duchovney left, I watched about two episodes. I was unaware the same actor played the bad cyborg. I guess that's two things he was so bad in, that he made no memorable impression on me whatsoever.

As far as latter movies in a series being as good or better than the first, there certainly aren't many.
The problem is it's hard to break totally new ground yet still remain true to the story line. And many that come to mind were inteded to be, and shot as trilogies (or more) from the very beginning.

Saw a great flick last night, Basic Instinct (1992) with Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone, directed by Paul Verhoeven. It is not for kids or those troubled by graphic violence but what a great story, acting, music, etc. in the film noir genre.
OK, better go start up a game. Later.

The Terminator was a bleak horror film with a ruthless killer slaughtering helpless people one after another in a world doomed to be devastated by an imminent nuclear conflict. T2 was more of a straight action movie.

That's one of those classic movie questions. What sequels can you name that were better than the original?
Popular answers are Godfather II, Empire Strikes Back, and Aliens.
I'm going to see Shrek 2 and Spiderman 2 soon... Maybe they'll be added to the list.

Can't wait to see Godfather II. |
|
You know about Godfather III being a big disappointment, right?
Until I can get trade and research going to start bribing them with things like Interstellar Negotiation and Extravaganza (big ones), it can be dicey. |

That's the way of GalCiv. A tough, tense beginning, followed by a relaxing endgame.
My policy was always to keep 100% spend rate up until I hit -500BC, in desperate pursuit of early trade goods... Maybe it's better to try and stay in the black. That way, I can afford to pay 10BC for 9999 turn bribes early on.
4000? Man, I'm still on UT 2004. I must have missed the last 1,996 sequels.

Permanent 100% spend rate is a valid tactic, but long-term debt harms morale. It's completely unpredictable in the latest version how long you have before the Ais build a TG so there's no guarantee it will help you. Having money also makes tech trading a lot easier - you can throw in a few BC a turn for 99 turns when the tech you're offering isn't quite enough. If you miss a TG, you can trade for it later pretty easily.
