Yeah. I've got it down to where I can win a gigantic maso rare with just 2 good planets and 3 subpar ones to start

Its a shame there isn't a thread where we can detail what we would like to see the AI be able to do/anticipate/how to react. Then we could help stardock to make it a real bada$$ AI.

I agree but with a slight modification - use a medium galaxy, you meet each other much sooner and you have less time to spread out and get your own house in order before you meet the aliens

And the scoring has been set up to give fewer points for this so that there thoughtfully, fewer Galciv players beating their heads on walls potentially causing product liability lawsuits.

And why not start a thread in the GF just for this purpose?

Thats basically why I haven't started one Don't think this would work without some kind of censorship/limits - look at the GC 1.21 thread for an example

The meta has gone quickly downhill.

I used to think we ought to censor things. But now I think not. It makes it far easier to determine the morons, idiots, malcontents, 25 year old children, losers, and general rif raf (not speaking about anyone in particular here) so I can just plain skip their posts.

I'd love each of us to have the ability a-la flipside to block all posts from a particular source. Then they could flame away and I wouldn't have to read their idiocy in an otherwise enjoyable thread.

I've been chatting with others about doing something like that, but would stardock implement it? We've pretty much moved our discusions to other areas at the mo.

I kind of think Stardock's done with the modifying features of this board as well as the nuts and bolts galciv. and such. Even AP isn't going to undergo much when they get it out. Perhaps when they have a new board for GC2, they'll do some of that. And our suggestions may be taken in for GC2.

On putting together ideas for a better AI/better game balance:

I've been compiling a list of ideas, thoughts, suggestions, with the main one centering around the AIs single purpose being its downfall. I poked a bit at Frogboy at the start of the 1.21 thread in the GF, and got a response that Stardock was not looking at making major AI changes in the AP expansion. I had planned to take the lobbying to email, but kinda lost steam once I saw that response.

My goal has been to lobby for game-balance changes to support an RB single player tournament, similar to the Civ3 epics. I would still like to get there, but I do not know if I have the energy right now. There are a lot of holes to be plugged before there can be a tourney with sufficient legs, limited loopholes, and multiple viable paths to victory (meaning that there is not one overwhelmingly best approach) such that comparability between games (the major piece of the Civ3 epics) is real. I still think GalCiv is a darn good game, it's just that once you have seen behind the curtain, it is VERY hard to not employ those uber techniques. Even for us RB Variant Scum who are used to playing sub-obtimal choice variants.

If there are a few that would like to pool efforts, and begin to lobby for a better game balance, I would be more than happy to coordinate the effort. Worst case, we extend this game's legs a bit, and give Stardock some good feedback for GalCiv2.

THE SECRET OF THE OLD TAVERN

The Renegade Armada has returned to Port Royal for needed repairs, there a very unusual encounter took place.
Was late in the afternoon and Renegade was walking the desolate streets of the island, everyone was at the port's bar drinking and enjoying the arrival of the Armada. The pirates were all visiting the ladies of the night and spending the money in drinks and having a good time.

But The Renegade was distressed, he couldn't pinpoint the origine of its unease. Slowly he walked away from the port shaking from his body the arms of couple of ladies that were looking for a good time.

Stupid Altarians he musitated with a low voice.
Walking not knowing where to go, he took and old abandoned road that leaded him away from the tumultuos noices that emanate from the city's port.

Enjoy guys, he thought to himself you deserved.

Walking down the road, he saw far away towards the coast the skeletal remains of an abandoned fortress. For some unexplained reason he felt the urge to visit the fortress.

He started walking a little bit faster, and soon he found himself running towards the ruins....

After reaching the area where the ruins stood, The Renegade stop to catch his breath and start looking around, this place seems so familiar, he thought.

The ruins stood amidst of a thick vegetation that have claimed almost all of the site. You can still see the half crumbled solitary tower that once was the Watchtower for the old inhabitants of this island. The construction didn't seem to match any other styles of architecture he knew.

He walked around the ruins and found an old metallic "Door" in one of the walls of the Old Tavern, that is what this place remind him about. The Old Tavern from the novel of the famous Wanderer. He tried to open the door, but it was sealed tight. The "Door" as he called it, was more like a round disc with protuberances all around, this door looks like the famous Stargate stories we used to watch in the Scifi Channel when we were kids he thought to himself.
He wandered a litle bit down the hill where the ruins were located and he found an old road that run down towards the ocean. He started to follow the road....
