The Frozen One Chapter 4: Arise from the Ashes
The sounds of battle echoed over the dunes of Wardell IV-but Kryo heard only one voice.
"You should have followed me Kryo... now you will pay the price for your mistakes. You will die, and so will the rest of the Jedi!" proclaimed the scratchy, strained voice.
At that, the flames enveloping Kryo grew exponentially more intense, and even his most valiant attempt to ameliorate the heat was not enough. Kryo relented, and the world became white.
* * * *
The shouts of the fevered mob grew increasingly unintelligible, but a few could yet be clearly heard. "Demon!" shouted one voice. "Witch!" screamed another. "Burn him!" cried a third.
Khiron did not resist as the many pairs of hands that held him thrust him against the post. Nor did he make even the slightest cry of pain as a pair of particularly sinewy hands tightened the cord binding his own hands, even though the tightening caused a sickening crunching sound to come from his wrists. Khiron knew that what was happening was necessary, and that it would be of no use to resist in any way.
The crowd before him thinned, and out of the rabble emerged a man dressed in white and adorned in gold whose head bore a rather pointy hat. The man carried with him a large oaken staff capped with a burning, pitch-soaked rag. "Thy presence in our village shall not be tolerated, foul creature! In the name of our lord, I banish thee back to the fiery pit from whence thou came!" As the man in white said this, he threw his staff at the heap of dried straw and wood that lay beneath Khiron's feet.
Flames immediately devoured the fuel, and Khiron was deluged with pain.
He loosed a piercing scream, as much for dramatic effect as for the agony he was experiencing. Judging from the mob's shock, and cheer that followed that momentary shock, the scream did indeed seem to have had the desired result.
His performance finished, Khiron released his will and allowed his body to melt and quickly turn to steam, leaving only a pile of burning clothing behind.
A few hours later, after the fire had burned itself out, a curious mouse ventured toward the pyre. As the mouse approached, it suddenly stiffened and let a yelp of pain when it got too close to the ashes.
No one seemed to notice as the bloated, frost covered mouse very stiffly skittered away from the pyre.

A large, black beetle crept through some withered foliage beside the rapidly drying stream. The beetle was perplexed at the sudden drying out; just a day earlier, he had all the food he could need, and now it was gone.
As the beetle waddled along the stream, he stepped on a small piece of ice that appeared to have come from the cave upstream. This surprised him, since everything else had gotten so hot and dry lately.
The beetle stopped.
Slowly, the beetle began to freeze. His shell began to crack, and he was split open. But he did not fall apart; his frozen innards were yet holding him together.
The frozen beetle, now very dead, started walking along the stream again.
* * * *
The beetle walked along the stream for several hours, then headed off into a nearby cave. Onward the dead beetle walked until the cave abruptly ended in a metal wall with a door; here he stopped.
The beetle began to issue a gout of vapor, then began to warm until his innards were no longer sufficiently frozen to hold him in one piece. The beetle crumbled, and the vapor hung in the air above his remains.
The vapor began to glow, and suddenly a gravelly scream burst from its midst.
"It's good to be alive," thought Kryo, "but things would have gone much more smoothly if I'd expected him to do that..."
Kryo pondered for a moment longer, considering previous times when he had actually allowed himself to be burned-if only to make those who pursued him think he was dead so he could move on in peace.
He shook off the memories and flew through the door; there was yet much work to be done.
* * * *
Kryo flew through the deserted passages of the central MWC installation on Wardell IV. Apparently, most (if not all) of the MWC troops had fled as the battle came to a close. Being a hundred or so kilometers from the Eudaimonia Machine, this installation had gone unnoticed and untouched by the Jedi.
Kryo hoped that the MWC troops had been hasty in their retreat. His objective depended greatly on their carelessness.
Eventually, Kryo arrived at the datacenter. He quickly located a terminal, and summoned what little moisture was in the air to form hands of ice. The dancing icicles tapped away at the keys as Kryo searched the base's records for his quarry.
It took only a few moments to find. The MWC troops had indeed been careless-the data had not even been encrypted, let alone destroyed when the facility was evacuated. As Kryo read the information, the Force spoke to him. He knew that he would have to act quickly.
Again, Kryo found himself hurtling through the passages of the abandoned complex. This time, he was seeking the comm center. He had no intention of sending a distress call, however...

The Super Star Destroyer Icemane lazily drifted through its orbit of Coruscant. Its owner having been slain in battle, the ship now awaited reassignment by the Jedi council.
Commander Talos was displeased. He paced the bridge impatiently; the council secretary had told him the Council's decision would be announced over an hour ago.
As Talos stalked the deck, he felt a tingle in the back of his mind. Suddenly, he stopped dead in his tracks and his body became completely rigid. His eyes unfocused for a few moments, then he regained his bearings.
Talos ran to the command chair and entered the helm override command. He then proceeded to enter the coordinates for the Wardell system. As soon as the ship's massive engines powered the Icemane out of its orbit, Talos engaged the hyperdrive.

Kryo slowly removed his ethereal hands from the holocomm housing. The proper equipment had not been present, so it was necessary for him to manually manipulate the machine's workings to achieve the desired effect.
Kryo floated back from the holocomm, The holoreceiver he had implanted in Talos's brain was not designed to provide feedback. Kryo could only hope that he had sent the codes correctly and Talos had been compelled to do accordingly.
Only time would tell.
Having nothing left to do, Kryo decided to take a nap. He slowly pulled himself together, then abruptly formed a perfect sphere of ice and dropped to the floor.
* * * *
"Beep! Beep! Beep!"
The noise shook Kryo from his slumber, and as he assumed his vaporous form once more, he noticed a button flashing on a nearby console.
It was a proximity alarm. Kryo pressed the button, and a hologram sprang from the console to show the massive dagger-shaped ship that had entered orbit around Wardell IV.
Kryo smiled inwardly. It had worked. He would need to congratulate his biomechanical research team... the implant they had designed based on the ones used by Pontius to control his many clones had worked flawlessly.
As Kryo gathered his strength, he thought about the vision the Force had sent him as he searched the databanks. War was coming to the metaverse, and no empire would escape its fury. But Kryo knew that the information he had gathered and the implants he could have placed in all of his troops to make them instantly responsive to his commands would provide a decisive advantage.
If he can act on the information quickly enough, the cloned armies of the Sith will certainly prevail in the coming war.
Kryo pushed away his thoughts and took off for high orbit, where destiny awaited him.

Great story Kryo, I see that you manage once more to elude the enemy. It is time. My old garments are still in the compartment where I laid them.

The Temple is quiet today... sshhhh, don't disturb the meditating Jedi.

Can some one who has read the last 20 pages give me a summarized version without saying junk posts? |

Bakka: the Jedi raced the Guardians to the 1000 post mark, at times using a variety of spamming tricks, the low point of which was a drawn out rendition of Itsy Bitsy Spider (you didn't miss anything) among others. Basically, all is well with the Republic; they continue to enjoy each other's company, write good stories and play well. We return you to normal transmission.
