Here it is part 5. Enjoy everybody.
The Story of Procyon: Part 5 Questions and Answers
I held up in my quarters for some time. There was much to think about. The station was obliterated. At least that much was for certain. The loss of that station was a crippling blow for the Procyon military. That was the last major outpost between us and our ruthless enemy. It was now only a matter of time before they launched their final assault upon our home planet. The High Command is probably consolidating all remaining forces around the planet. We had vast reserves of firepower at Procyon. Maybe there we can make our stand. Maybe we could beat them back just enough to coax a truce or at the very least buy us some time to counter attack. These thoughts were more than a little optimistic though. The grim reality of the situation was more than a little daunting. One cruiser and maybe three squadrons of fighters were able to take out at least 4 cruises and 2 destroyers not to mention the Starbase. Even with the entire remainder to the fleet concentrated in one place we still didn’t stand a chance. The only way we could win is if the person who is only known as the Father, the leader of our people can pull of some full scale miracle
There were still more questions that I had than I had answers to about what happened in these most recent events. First I wanted to know why the base commander put me in command of this ship in the first place. The alluding to something but she was cut off by the attack. Then there were the ships that we had retreat from the battle before our desperate run on the Kraiden cruiser. They should have had enough time to escape from the blast but there has been no sign of then on our sensors. They might have been to damaged to escape but one can’t help but to wonder. Then there was Weaver. Did he escape, and if he did where is he now? Then there was the mystery of how I knew the armament of the ship as soon as I walked on. It was a small mystery though. I’ve learned to attribute such things to that “Force” that I had been working with for so long now. All these questions and more swirled around in my head. I needed to clear my head.
“Sir sorry to interrupt you but I believe that this is important,” said the comm officer Andrews over the communicator.
“It better be,” I replied with just a little relief that I had something new to think about.
“Sir there is a communicae here from the base commander. For your exes only”
Could it be! Could she, and possibly others be alive somewhere?
“Put it through to the screen in my quarters.”
“Yes captain.”
I went over to the screen and waited for the message to be put through.
The screen turned on with a picture of the commander’s bright face displayed upon it. My hopes went sky high.
“Hello captain MBM” said the commander.
“What happened? How did you survive?” I asked excitedly. But there was no response to my questions.
“If you are hearing thing message you must be told that I am dead that I am dead.”
My hopes plummeted but I had to listen.
“I scheduled this time delayed message to be sent to you in the event of the destruction of the station. It’s hard to say this, but we knew the attack was coming. We wanted to evacuate, but we also knew that if we did the Kraiden spies on board would report back and the attack would come sooner. We needed to buy all the time we could so you could get here safely and retrieve the equipment. We tried to encourage them to leave of their own accord but many refused. We are also trying to get as many civilians on to transports and cruisers as I speak. I hope this gives you some comfort.”
Weaver might be alive after all.
“You may be wondering why you were picked for such an important task. Well the order came directly from the high command, but your record does show the accomplishments to warrant it. Also many of our more experienced captains have been assassinated as of late, and you were the next best thing. As for your cargo… just keep is safe.”
Several loud explosions thundered in the background.
“I have to go. Be careful”
The screen began to flicker.
“The enemy can be anywhere.”
The communication ended. I needed a moment to absorb it. Then the communicator rang.
“Sir, you need to come to the bridge, “Said Opuno in his usual tone of arrogance. Some how he was the first mate.
“Why?”
“We are receiving a distress signal from a group of cruisers”
“I’ll be right there.”
I then went to the bridge.
“What’s the situation?”
“We are receiving distress signals from a group of two cruisers. They seem to be heavily damaged.”
Just then I remembered the commander’s warning.
“How long until we can get there”
“About two hours sir”
“Ok. Let’s move!”
