Ahhhh Seeking it Piled Higher and Deeper eh?
Just remember the reviewers code.
You didn't quote some of the more relevant sources = You failed to quote your Dissertation adviser, namely ME!!!.
You need to do more research = I want you to jump through yet another hoop, pigeon.
Your dissertation has merit, but you need to clarify some points = This stuff is way beyond me. We never had to do all this when I got my Ph. D. Please dumb it down a bit.
You'll never earn your Ph.D as long as I'm chair of this dept = please smack me over the head repeatedly with a ball peen hammer.

Sorry to sound like a newb but I'm interested in joining special forces and was curious what the requierments are if any and what my chances are of getting in? I have had the game since it came out but I've just reccently started posting scores on metaverse.

Don't worry about being a newb: your timing is just bad There aren't any requirements as such but this empire is currently considering its future; many of its long term core members are considering moving on and at the moment it would not be fair to take on new members (given they might end up crewing on a ghost ship). Thus, in the interests of fairness to new players, we wont be taking on anyone at this stage. Um...you seem to have an empire already, and a darn good one! Sorry about that, but I hope you understand

Hurely good luck with your Pile High of Dough, it is a lot of time consuming thing to do. Good luck and remember the GROSSians islands are always open for your ship to touch land. And any other SFian ship that wants to come and pay a visit, you all are welcome to come.

Wild Wombat, you forgot to give me the key for the door of the 3Balls bar

Wombie, this was an extremely honorable thing to do...you have continued to prove how valuable you and your crew are to the Metaverse. I hope to see the Special Forces hang around, but if they don't, rest assured any empire in the Metaverse would love to have any of your members who would like to continue on the journey.

Now, I say this with all respect for those at the top, what some of you have done I hope to achieve some day. But, as we have all seen, Jaws, Cypher, and Samauri Ben have just retired, and Hurley has said that he will not be around as much. In fact, besides Jaws and Cypher, only black smoke and Wild Wombat have submitted games in the past month, and I have to ask, are the Special Forces ever going to return? It has suddenly seemed a very lonely place at the top, and I am simply wondering if Special Forces has a future, or if they are doomed to slowly dissappear like many other empires into the folds of the Metaverse, never to see the sun again, and become an obstacle for new empires to have to jump over. Again I say this with all due respect of those who have achieved greatness, but I feel I must ask if there is a future to Special Forces.

When the AP comes out then the entire metaverse will go back into hyperdrive and we'll be suddenly revitalised to reign supreme until the day that GalCiv is finally consigned to the history books.

I like the way you think, Goblin! That's the spirit!

|
Now that is what I want to hear!

Renegade: there's a 3Balls BAR!?! No one told me!!!! Dammit! Ask Alex the Centurion - he'll know!
Theoden: thanks, mate. I have been around for what seems a long time now, and I think I've been through most permutations of empiring - joining, leaving, starting my own, breaking up my own, watching people come and go, etc. I think I've developed a fair honour code about what to do (and hopefully what not to do). What I wont do is pull the rug out from under anyone, nor will I misrepresent the situation. I feel that the best fun to be had from empiring is the emotional connection with teammates striving for a common goal; you dont want anything to sour that.
As a group, we have some who really are sick of the game and have formally retired; we have others who would like to change the way they approach their gaming (ie they are no longer interested in the cranko-maso-point chase) and continue to be around but in a much reduced way in terms of the Metaverse scoreboard; and we have some remaining young titans (Go Go GoblinCookie!!). The first issue is to work out how to honour the needs of those three different groups of people.
I wanted SF to be a small coherent group; I respect greatly the longevity of GROSS, MWC, The Fellowship etc but really didn't want to find I had four active players and fifty ghosts on the roster (no disrespect to those big old empires intended). Luckily, we're all still in communication, even if it's not about the game. So we're going to slowly and carefully decide, as a group, how we can best honour the needs of the group (and the Metaverse legend that IS Special Forces ) with as much style and grace as possible.
I do recognise the point A Darker Tomorrow is making and it is one we're thinking over carefully.
GoblinCookie may well be right about an upsurge with AP. I mean, we reign supreme now, so I guess there's nothing wrong with continuing to reign supreme, right?

Glad to hear that Wild Wombat, I love this game my next stop is 300, I have 11 games at home I have not submited yet, so I think that by the end of the mont I should reach 300.

Boy I love the tape/motivation seminar circuit. What a racket.
My fave is Carleton Sheets. I made a fortune in real estate. You can buy this 8 million dollar mansion behind me in just 1 year using my no money down system.
Oh yeah buddy? Then why are you peddling tapes instead of out there doing it?

Wild Wombat: Thank you for your post. I do wish you guys will stay, but I agree with what you are saying. Nobody wants an empire of one and 50 dead bodies.
Thanks for the comments, but I just want to say again that the last thing I want is for the Special Forces to disappear. I like having a target that doesn't move. Whatever you guys decide, I wish you the best of luck in every one of your exploits.

Glad to hear you guys are doing your best to carefully decide your next move. Don't do anything rash or unwise...do what's best for everybody. Through everything else, I look forward to seeing you around for a long time, Wombie!

Ive only recently joined up with the Guardians,( late Feb) and as I was looking through all the posts within the empire threads etc... I must say the SF empire did look elite and it would be very hard to get into the empire. I know now that this isnt the case but I think most new peoples perception of the top empire, with the top 1st and 2nd place players, and a invite only empire it did seem at the time to be difficult to get into. The reason why I ended up joining with the Guardians was because I loved reading the Meterverse Review by Theoden of Rohan, and really liked what he had to say throughout the forums, and his activiness in the empire. Also the Raven Claw thread is a real laugh with lots of great story telling etc... I think this in itself is good at getting new recruits joining, specailly now Terl has some very good stories there. I always would of picked Guardians as first empire choice anyway, but being a aussie I would of considered SF if it wasnt for my misconception of your elitist status us newbies have of this excellent empire.
Anyway, best of luck Wild Wombat in revitalising your greatess of empires.
PS.
I think what is making the Guardians a great succsess at the moment is the Raven Claw thread, Theodens activness around the forums, he is always polite and helpful, and can have a good laugh, he includes us alot in general empire choices so we as a team can guide our empire no matter what our rank or expierience. He listen's. (This may seem silly, but he makes you feel wanted and always congratulates on your contibutions no matter how small.) Also Terls Story writing ability really attracts alot of attention, and the Greldon and Lothmorg BliztKrieg machine is tearing it up in the ranks.
Thats just my opinion anyway.
Once again all the best in the future with this most excellent empire, and WildWombat your a great leader also from what Ive seen of your posts through out the forums.

Friends,
The consensus within our group at present is to maintain Special Forces as a coherent team, and let those of us who wish to actively bring glory to the Empire continue to do so in their own way. Needless to say, our presence and efforts in the Metaverse will change from here on, but we are happy to remain a target for those aspiring to reach the top (which, if the Guardians keep going, should be sometime Thursday afternoon ).
Most of us in SF have chalked up a lot of games over a long period, and feel the need for a break. Our younger guns are free to keep the flag flying, or break away as they see fit. My apologies to our Clone War allies, who I am sure hoped for more - it was just bad timing . My warm appreciation to my team mates who made it possible for me to be the Emperor of the No.1 Empire - thanks team, you're fantastic!
I too, feel the need for a long break. It's been absolutely wonderful, but I no longer have the fire burning to tear up the Metaverse as I once did. I need to stop playing. Perhaps, I will rediscover an interest in the new AP and come back and play in some other way in the future. Over two hundred games logged over ten months is enough. I'm not going to waste your time with soppy speeches - just a simple thank you to the gamers I've enjoyed spending a large chunk of time with over the last ten months. It's been time well spent. My best wishes to you and your families, and good luck in your gaming.
So, not necessarily goodbye, but certainly...adieu.
