but there is also a European tradition for fruit beers, such as framboise

RED ALERT: I feel a HURLS MODE coming on...

Hi Exar! Last thing I read (long time ago, admittedly) you were recovering from illness - hope you're well and fighting fit now.

And Evil - a pirate at last!

Hey Wombie - hows RL? As to illness much better now

Found out the other day that I have passed my teaching practice

RL's been pretty busy, actually - now the GalCiv addiction has worn off and I remember there are actually OTHER things I could be doing with my time

Congrats and great to hear about your teaching practice - now you and Hurls can chat to each other about stressful teaching experiences!

I always thought the ONLY thing that could stress Hurley out was smacking pengiuns...

Wombat, I can relate -- I've been surprised at how much free time I've had since I've given up on GalCiv. Mrs. Pax has realized that and I've afraid this will be my last gaming addicition. : (

Golbin Cookie - Happy Birthday!

Anyway, it's nice to hear from everyone.

Well, if we are talking about birthdays, mine is Friday and I will be 34; and that hat would look pretty good on me at my next ballgame on Saturday (I coach a 7-9 year old coaches pitch team) instead of the Braves hat (we are the Travelers Rest Braves). Of course the parents probably would not like it, but the kids would definitely think I was da bomb! Let me know if you need my mailing address.

Congrats on that - is there any more for you to do now or have you passed the course?

Alex

Wrong!!!! In the UK custom dictates you drink yourself senseless at 12. And start smoking at 6 and get someone pregnant/get pregnant as soon as possible.

I have actually been taking private stress creation and communication lessons from Mr Furious.

Maybe, I hurt my shoulder (rotater cuff tear) so typing/mouse etc work is limited and rationed for PhD etc.

And lack of good red wine, lack of clean wine glasses, not being able to find a corkscrew, finding the wine has gone off, finding the bottle has somehow become empty ............

Of course, there is always the best of inspirations for such events, Mr Thorogood himself!!

[Hurls Mode ON]

I drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
I drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
You know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

Every morning just before breakfast
I don't want no coffee or tea
Just me and good buddy Wiser
That's all I ever need
'Cause I drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

The other night I laid sleeping
And I woke from a terrible dream
So I caught up my pal Jack Daniel's
And his partner Jimmy Beam
And we drank alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

The other day I got invited to a party
But I stayed home instead
Just me and my pal Johnny Walker
And his brothers Black and Red
And we drank alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

My whole family done give up on me
And it makes me feel oh so bad
The only one who will hang out with me
Is my dear old granddad
And we drink alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

[Hurls Mode OFF]

Slurp!!!

#1063  by Citizen Wild Wombat - 5/17/2004 12:56:28 AM

And after that, we don't hear from anyone in the thread for four days!!! No more drinking alone!!!

Doh, a good honest discussion about beer, instead of wine this, wine that, and I missed it

I mean to say, ya gotta be looking for COST EFFECTIVE intoxication, right?

Binge drink - buy in bulk and save! Your doctor will hate you, but your accountant will love you!

I hear that - I'm done with my GalCiv addiction! Now, I'm addicted to a few other games - I'll knock them off one by one, then I'll be clean!

...

Hmm. Pretty long list, though. Could take a while. I'll, um, get back to you.

Wow. Wombie dropped out of the top 25.

Taps plays in the background.

P.S. Never let the wives know you're over your game addiction. Rediscover civ2 if you have too.

When the last page or two of this thread before this one involved rating booze and potentially corrupting minors it reminded me of reading through old posts in the POSSe thread. Good to see a reunion of sorts. It's been a while since my last visit, so I'll just grab my customary drink and raise a glass to the SF tonight. And maybe corrupt some aliens as well.

Drinks all around! Why not some PBR??

Just dropped by to say 'hi'. Still no baby... I've been busy with a bunch of other things, the US economy seems to be getting a little better which is a relief (so I'm rethinking those work decisions I discussed with the SFers last year).

Captain Jack's right - never let your significant others know about breaking your gaming addiction - as a result of my new found time, I've in the process of building a retaining garden wall and a fairly large slate patio... I'd rather be playing Galciv - but at least the patio will be more enduring than my metaverse scores. (The jury is out on the wall, I'm not sure it'll be as grand as the original plan.)

Cheers! No PBR for me... but I'm be sure to do rounds for the SF members. Mrs. Pax is eager to make up for lost time.

Y'all,

I tried to post this over at the SF bunker, but we're apparently dealing with some technical glitches over there.

Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been around recently. Although I had been spending a bit more time here on the Forums, it's been close to two weeks since I've put in an appearance.

As some of you are aware, my father had been struggling with cancer over the last year. Though it looked as if he had it licked - again - as recently as three months ago, it resurfaced and his health rapidly worsened. He passed away early last week.

Needless to say, it's going to be awhile before my life returns to a semblance of normalcy. I wanted to let y'all know that I value the friendships I've formed here, and I'll be back - but it's going to take some time to get things sorted out on both practical and emotional levels.

In the meantime, whether it's GalCiv, another game, or even just trading emails, I look forward to hearing from you again. Take care.

Samurai: deepest condolences from the Wombat clan - I've emailed you privately.

Cypher: in the midst of death, life springs forth - and it's a good thing! Best wishes to you and Mrs. Pax.

Taps plays in the background...for everyone...
