My condolences. Be well.

Samurari Ben,

I also add my condolences. I lost my father a few months ago, and a close friend last week to leukemia. If you want someone to talk with, pm me in the senate halls, or drop me an email to hcmillerv @ comcast.net (without the spaces).

Ben, I would have liked to have been by much earlier to say as such, but I also wish to express my deepest condolences. Remember we will be here whenever you feel right returning.

Thank you all - old friends, a few new ones, even a few old friendly adversaries - for the kind words. Life has its challenges, and death is one of them. I'm coping, even if not particularly well at the moment.

- Cypher, haven't heard from you in awhile - hope that all is going well on the home front.

- Exar, I haven't had a chance to offer my congratulations yet - how goes the job hunt?

- Wombie, thanks again for the email - your friendship is definitely a high point of my history with GalCiv, and I'm sure that others feel the same.

- VoT, Hank, Bromoser - thank you. Though I haven't had too much of an opportunity to get to know y'all yet, I appreciate the kindness that you show in taking the time to offer a pat on the back to an old relic whose last submission is likely before your first...!

- Damoose - though it's odd to welcome the friendship of an undead, cannibalistic moose, in your case I'll make an exception. Nice new logo ya got there, eh?

- Monkson, my longtime comrade; if you don't feel old enough already, check out the Jedi's empire page - they're due for a one-year anniversary on the 31st. We ought to give Yoda a birthday present by rounding up the previous Jedi and hopping over there for a day. And considering their constitution, it would have the fringe benefit of giving him a conniption fit trying to cram us back into the Senate for a day on our return. On a related note, I see that Qui-Gon/LifeWish has returned; he just posted over in the old Jedi thread on the main forum. Thought you might want to say hello - you guys were teammates over there even before I joined.

Thanks Ben, Job hunting - need to start, had a job lined up but for various reasons it fell through.

Thanks, Hurls, Steve and everyone. I'm feeling like I'm scraped raw at the moment, but this place and the people in it help. It's good to know there are a few sympathetic ears out there.

Ouch. You have had it a bit rough lately from what I have been catching up on just now. Everyone needs some time to recollect their bearings after a tragic loss, but don't let life get you down. It will only kick you and leave you for dead. Get back up back in the saddle again when you can. Not the most sympathetic words in the house, I know, but I have been kicked by the horse a lot, having my share of death in the family, dealing with my own serious illness, along with other drastic changes in life and never, ever let anything get me down for long. So have a round on me tonight, but try to wake up tomorrow ready to tame that horse.

Far from unsympathetic, Spymaster. I appreciate the honesty and the kindness behind the thoughts. Most of the problems I'm dealing with at this point are internal - grief, stress, family issues, etc. You not only have that, but very concrete health issues as well. You have my sympathy and best wishes.

So have a round on me tonight, but try to wake up tomorrow ready to tame that horse.

A few more shots of this schnapps (Zibarten-Brand, 42% alc. by volume, left over from the Germany trip) and I may knock the horse over with my breath instead. I very much appreciate the sympathy and kindness I've received from others, many of them here; but I also realize that nobody is going to patch up my life except me. Don't worry, I'll take care of the horse, given a little time. Samurai were always better as cavalry than infantry.

Fellow troopers: I'm taking a brief vacation on Coruscant, but shall return in time. I'd appreciate it if you could keep Quack from running up my bar tab in my absence.

Meanwhile, at the bar.
Quack: Hi ya Cap'n, Long time no see. Allow me to buy you a drink or 50. On Samurai Ben of course.
Bar Tender: No no no. Ben left strict instructions that you were not to run up his Bar Tab.
Sparrow: Lemme see that. Hmmmm. It seems he did indeed. Quack. I insist you not run up his bar tab. Allow me to run up his bar tab instead. Drinks all around!!! On Ben!!!
Bar Tender: Aye Matey, he didn't leave no instructions about you not running up his tab Cap'n.

The rest of the bar. HERE HERE!!! LETS DRINK TO SAMURAI BEN, WHO'S BUYIN!!!!

Noted comrades - enjoy the celebrations!

Er...I can't really promise anything about the bar tabs though....

Iro Paw, I would have thought the only thing you could promise was that there would be bar tabs and they would be large!!

Ben - I'm sorry to hear about your father.
Hurley - I went back to work today and I've a bit behind - but I'll get back to you soon.

It feels inapproriate, but I finally have good news to share - Kathleen Marie was born in the Sauron system on May 22. She was 8lbs 5oz and 20.75 inches and has thus far avoided Ashlyn's fragmentation gernades. Despite being too small to operate coventional weaponry - the substances she frequently emits during burping and in diapers has already been outlawed as WMD precursors in Torian and Altarian space and if launched into space may be enough to generate a new military resource.) Mrs. Pax is also doing well... and enjoying the opportunity to help run up Ben's tab now that she's allowed to again.

I'll try to pop by more often, but right now my need to sleep is more compelling than my need to be online.

Cheers!

Congrats Cypher!

8lbs 5oz

Never quote a female's weight! Good luck with the new little one.

Congrats, Cypher, and thank you.

Fellow troopers, I'll return from my "vacation" shortly. Weather-related fun down here in central Tennessee has cut into my writing time, and I need to finish off the story in the Jedi thread before I return. Sometimes, art requires sacrifice!

CONGRATS TO CYPHER AND MRS. PAX!!!

Kathleen will be expected to commence weapons training within four weeks. Special exemption has been granted for training sessions to occur between breast feeds. She will begin with microgrenade techniques against slow moving targets...perhaps the Diplomats to start with....
