Would be nice do!!! LIke the EURO empire now in Europe. You know you could join MWC, Jedis and Diplomats and make a BIG EMPIRE.

Exactly, none of the empires want to give up their identities, which is why mergers have been so hard to do. But with alliances we could really shake up the metaverse and bring some new life to the game.

They would have to restrict it somehow as well to keep empires from jumping all over the place.

Anyway, just a thought. During the slow months people asked me to join their Empires, but their is no way that I would want to leave the good old MWC. So I thought that this might be an option.

Like to join empires and compete again other alliances for like 1 month or so.

Like a maximun of 3 empires can ally and then they can go head on against other empires for a month and only account the points that they generate during that period of time.

#82  by Veteran surther - 2/12/2004 3:00:19 PM

Their ya go, that would be one way of controling it.

#83  by Veteran Disciple777 - 2/12/2004 3:02:17 PM

We will have to organize the competition, like 1 month ahead. That way the different empires can decide whom they want to ally with. And we could do it by looking at the score of the players, just count the games submitted during the competition month and at the end we could nominate the top 3 big super empires.

I think the only way to circumvent this is to create a new empire all together and have the members form the other empires join it. Now the only problem with that is what happenss to all the people in your empire that are not active any more. You would lose a lot of points.

But the alliance idea keeps the points. That would be an awsome feature though.

The letter from ND alumni criticizing how the football program is being handled. I guess you didn't.

They are getting pretty testy. 1966, 1973, 1977, 1988, ??? This is the longest the school has gone since prior to '66 without a title.

Yep, four or so of us keep up the chat string, fortunetly a lot more MWC'ers have been submitting games lately.

At least the fields are being checked now. I take it the missileers in the silos don't come out too much anymore, but when the missiles hit their marks, we'll all know about it in the rankings.

Gerakken's really odd thought of the moment: if we are going to discuss allied empires combining scores, how about wrapping one's head around making warfare formalized as well? What if empires who officially waged war in the Meta started knocking points off each other to simulate the casualties. Empire joining the war frivilously would just also put themselves in the point-draining cycle of destruction, so everybody would have no incentive to dog pile the leader. Of course, a lot of details would have to be planned for to prevent abuse. Weird thought, I know. But hey, this is what happens when Gerakken gets a few minutes too many.

I guess there were between 400-500 signitures on it.

You would think that with all the things that ARE wrong in this world, this would be the last thing on their minds.

Oh, I forgot. We are talking about ND.

Keep thinking this through. This is about the koolest idea I have heard in recent memory. (It is getting shorter)

Questions to answer:

1. Under what circumstances could war be declared/initiated?
2. Could just anyone fire the first shot?
3. Who would the ambassadors be and how would they function?
4. Would there be provisions for skirmishes (overlord vs. overlord), battles (groups of overlords) and war (entire empire)
5. What role would/could the emperor/senators play?

This could be fun. . .

You know, I'm sure I could probably find the answer by searching old threads, but I'm just going to ask: In the statbot, 2 games are listed as their difficulty being "Douloureuse" What the hell does that mean?

#94  by Veteran Theoden of Rohan - 2/13/2004 8:47:43 AM

The French version isn't translating over to the Statbot, apparantly.

Doloureuse means painful Coems froom the word dolor=pain

Guys can we get in touch to see if we can pull this tournament?

Only 500 or so signatures aren’t much. ND has the 2nd largest active alumni association in the country (2nd to Harvard). We always have cycles, the difference now is that their are more schools fielding good players. It is more competitive then it has ever been. Some argue that ND's academic requirements prevent student athletes from applying. You must maintain a minimum gpa and you have to take 2 semesters of calc, theology, philo. etc. freshman year just like every other student. The average student at ND is in the top 1% of their class with nearly perfect SAT/ACT scores. The football players don't get many breaks. When they are not practicing they are with tutors. The funny thing is that ND has not made its requirements much harder so much as the other top Football Schools (with Standford being the major exception) have lowered their requirements. So you can be an excon with a .01 GPA and still play for Miami or FSU (I exagerate ((slightly)))

Hey Kasual, you might want to get a tiny game in soon to prevent your previous scores from maturing.
