An off topic post. I apologize in advance.

I was wondering if one of my freinds from the south would be so kind as to supply me with a little information.

My wife is reading a fictional novel losely (very) based on events that occured druing the American Civil War. I'm looking for a web site or two that would supply some historical context. I'm not so interested in battles per se, but an overview if you will, on the military-socio-economic realities of the war. The what, why and wherefore. While I could google, I don't want to run through the 1,000s of hits I'm sure to get.

My question is would the Smithonian be an good place to start or is there another one or two that you would recomend.

Again apologies for the OTP.

Hi damoose. Sorry, I don't know of anything right off the top of my head. Google might be your best bet. Just put in a lot of keywords and limit your search to English, Filtered for Content. The Minus key is your friend.

I'm sure you'll find what your looking for within a half hour.
