Maso is definitely easier on AP.

You have more races to trade with and bribe to fight other races. The galaxy definitely gets a little crowded.

Since I hate the Altarians as much as the Yor

Me too! Snooty little %$#@^&. Their "prophecy" should be worded "we're all gonna die". I kind of like the Drath. I use them as my little merc force many times. For a few BC's they have done some good damage (and kept my name out of the Galactic Press services).

We better watch our thread today as we are getting very close to 5000 so we will have visitors....

My opening moves is Huge/rare/Tight.

I play populist Government and pick 50% diplomacy, and +2 trade routes which brings in stacks of money and helps the realtions as you have an extra 2 trade routes early on you dont have to research to get.

I build 4 colony ships only at 100%(takes 1 year), thats a total of 5 colony ships counting the first one on turn one.

Then I research

Comm Theory>Universal Translators>Diplomacy>Trade. at 100%.

Then I build Soil>Banks>>Entertainment>Economic Capital at 100%.

Build 6 frieghters at 100% or you can trade for them.

Then research Industrial Theory>Medical Theory>Basic Environment> Zero Gravity>Improved Enviroment Control.

Build Habitat>Manufacturing Centre> Research Lab. Thats all my planets need for along time if Im going the Terror Star Path. I then research cheap industrial techs, comm techs, and medical techs, and some defensive techs and trade them around or gift them. I never research the pre-req terror star techs up till artificial satelites as the AI will give these away for other cheaper techs and they get them alot quicker then researching it myself. Also the minors will trade huge amounts of there techs for small techs such as basic enviroment, advance trade etc.

Thanks for that bit MC. I copied, pasted and printed.

I love trading for them. That way I can be building defenders or something to keep the AI at bay.

As for the Altarians....they remind me of some weird goody-goody cultists in space. I can see them going from planet to planet handing out leaflets and junk. They just need to learn to worship Guardian terror stars

Good advice MC, otherwise you get way too far behind and have no chance of getting the TGs and wonders. In fact , in my last 2 huge games I cut it down to 3 for an extra 3 months head start on the GSE

Found a PQ26 planet in the same sector as Sol once on a huge, and only built 1 colony ship to dump half my pop there, colonised a nearby PQ16 with the starting CS and went through the whole game with only 3 planets to an alliance win - the PQ26 built every wonder and TG possible

They came to my house once trying to convert me. I told them to wait there for a second while I check on my Drengin Dread Dogs (Hotdogs). I got some eggs from the fridge and then proceeded to throw raw eggs in there faces till they left screaming mwahahahahahahahaha, Then I tracked them down to there homeworld and Terror Stared there system.

In the beginning I really did colonize to much, then I realized you can win with only 3-5 planets. And get a good start on those trade goods.

Terl most times I never have a military ever. Early on I find it hurts me to much in the tech, trade good department to spend money in this area. When I get to Dread then I start building some military if Im going the invasion method, but if going terror star I never build anything but constructors.

How do you keep the AI from threatening you? I thought you had to have some kind of military to keep them from that "you are a puny civilization" routine.

OK, who else does this: If the Yor surrender to some other race I jot down what planets they were on originally and schedule them for demolition. Hey they surrendered so I figure they're still there! Right?

~knock knock~ ~creak of door opening~ "Hi. We are Altarians and we want to give you this magazine that describes our ways. May we come in and discuss it with you."

"Sure, make yourself at home while I get a few things. I'll be right with you"

~reentering room~ "I'm back, and this is for you BOOM!!

A strong economy works just as well as a strong military. If the AI perceives that you have the capability of producing a big fleet in next to no time then they will not attack.

Also, with big diplo bonuses a small gift goes a long way

Oops, forgot to mention the trade routes. Keep the AIs fighting each other so that they send their freighters your way - then they can't afford to attack you.

I just gift them a cheap tech here and there early on. It's alot easier to bribe them when there more friendly with you so never let relations drop below neutral. Use credits also if you have to. I always go for a start in the middle of the map as you get more trade going to you, makes it easier on relations. I also send frieghters to the nearsest 3 civs, and the most powerful AI as i can have 6 trade routes in the early game. Bribe 1 or 2 wars early on keeps them off your back also. I find I never can keep up military wise in the beginning so I never worry about military till Dreads.

The most important screen in the early game is the foreign policy screen, check it every 3 turns or so.

Here is a Yor ashtray. Which is secretly an explosive device designed to explode when it comes in contact with alien dna

I have started doing this and it has been a great help. I like seeing green

I have been using the suggested political party and have the diplo bonus. I had not thought about trade routes choice. I have been using diplo, morale, and speed.

By the mid-end game Im earning around 1000-1800 BC a turn, and have alot better realtions as I have more trade routes to help me out. By the end game I have over 100'000 BC in reserve to make Terrors. I can then rush buy anything I want at this stage.
