I guess I'll have to take #6450!

Saved from marauding pirates and Diplomats by a Guardian Knight!

Alex has posted an individual score breakdown from the clonewars over in the SH audience chamber.

Lothmorg would have finished in 3rd place if he'd been an alliance all on his own Not even the mighty Greldon could get within 2,500,000 of him. Superb effort Lothmorg

As an empire, we'd have won without being allied to anyone, and the Diplomats were the 2nd highest scoring empire. 11 players scored more than 1 million during the month - 4 were Guardians, 2 Diplomats. The other 13 empires involved contributed 5 between them.

A great job, well done!

Hey DAT, don't worry about what to submit, but unless you particularly want the "wounded in action" medal I'd steer away from submitting losses and retirements.

Make sure you upgrade before starting a game, as saved games don't transfer very well between versions. Configure stardock central to "archive before upgrade" so you can always go back if there are problems with an update.

As for the "trick" to get the AIs to trade Battleship - I've no idea what triggers it, it just happens occasionally. Not that I'm particularly bothered as I never build any combat ships anyway.

Have fun!

Naturally. We kick butt!

the Diplomats were the 2nd highest scoring empire.

Of course they were.

Indeed!

To answer an earlier question, I'm still plugging away at the bathroom.

Quite today only had to read a couple pages to catch up. Played a game this morning. Wife left house mad. I think we should start a thread on "Excuses for Spouses" and "How to keep the computer from my teenage Daughter". The rest of world just does not understand the importance of keeping the universe a Yor free zone.

Magnumanaic, do you mean you don't build Battle Ships or that you don't build combat ships? If you mean combat ships, how do you achieve your military victories? (And thank you for the upgrade and submission advice. I appreciate it.)

DATarbell, if you can get all of the AI planets to culture flip to you, that is considered a military victory. Most of us turn off the culture victory option to get this.

You can also buy your needed military ships from the AI. Nothing beats invading a Yor system with it's own transports.

Well actually, I build 1 colony ship and 2 scouts at the beginning of the game, and the military slider then sits at zero for the rest of the game, and I don't rush-build any ships either. The game I submitted today (Large, military victory) was done like that with the exeception of rush-building 5 constructors in order to TS the Yor homeworld - just because I felt like it

How? I trade for the ships I need, which means freighters early on, then combat transports and enough ships to clear out the orbiting junk to take a planet. Co-ordinate it so that you take out the whole AI in one turn, and it doesn't matter that you've agreed to pay them 2000bc for 99 months to buy the ships, because they won't be around to collect

Thats easy, swich cultural vic. off and cultural bomb all enemy planets to your side, or use terror star alpha strikes to wipe them out.

Lothmorg and Magnumaniac--thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Very interesting strategy--effectively a cultural victory that gets credited as a military one. Too cool. (I can hardly wait to try it out!)

#6463  by Citizen Lothmorg the Black - 4/3/2004 2:49:28 PM

Oh yeah ... BOOM!!!

Lt: Sir! The Yor have been Greldonized!
General: Very well.

#6464  by Citizen Magnumaniac - 4/3/2004 2:50:15 PM

OH, also, if I did need to build a military, I wouldn't build battleships - they stink. Stick with battle hammers until dreads and AMMs are available.

I really should go eat some real food. Dr Pepper, Pringles and a Hershey bar with peanut butter just isn't going to cut it.

Good thing I don't eat very often or I'd be fat!

I'd like to wlecome our newest member, Gandalftheredskin!

#6467  by Citizen Major Dallas - 4/3/2004 3:03:31 PM

OK. Let me make sure I've got this straight. Turn off cultural victory. Build Battle Hammers, not Battle Ships. Eat Pringles with peanut butter, and wash it down with Dr. Pepper. And don't get fat. Got it!

Look out, Metaverse! I know now the secrets of the Galaxy--not to mention the secrets of the Fire Swamp!

Those aren't galactic secrets. Those are just the secrets to not having a life anymore.

Aha! (And now I know that too!) By the way ABT, is this 'life' thing at all related to the Artificial Life tech in GalCiv? (I'm still playing the demo--until later today, Woohoo --so I haven't gotten that far in the tech tree, yet. )

DATarbell: When you are downloading the updates (if you have Altarian Prophecy) DO NOT download 1.49K as you will have submission problems.

You will not be able to get anything but the 1.49K build of AP... Assuming you upgrade to Drengin.net. Once SD updates with a new build you cannot get previous builds from SD. Also don't forget to turn on the archive option in SDC before you do your updates that way you can go back if you need to do so.
