I should have a 3rd game queued up soon to submit. I've decided to go down to a medium map and it's making for much quicker and enjoyable games for me. I may go back to large from time to time but I'm liking the medium map. Just about perfect.

I'm currently playing my first tough game ever on a small map (also first time on small). I was so far behind at first but I did have 3 yellow stars (occ. worlds). But I had a plan and did a transport/starfighter rush and took over the Krox who had 4 yellows and that doubled my size. Starfighters *can* take out defenders, just takes 3 or so for each defender. If I would have waited much longer they would have had Axe's and I'd would have had to wait for Death Gliders to attack. I think it's key to take someone out in the early game if you can, even if it's a minor or two.

I'll tell you what I think has really helped me get better at a faster rate: I make a plan for each game. I have a notebook that I write down all the techs I need to get up to Battleship. I mark key points (like defenders or habitat) as well as have small side branches to get certain things along the way (like Organic Piecing for the morale boost). Each game now I right this down in my notebook and follow the plan. Before I think I just fumbled around the tech tree because it's so huge. I'd get so far in a game, find out the AI's all have Dreds and I'm no where near Battleships yet. I'd be rushing then to catch up or get my clock cleaned.

Now I don't always play a military victory but as I learned in Civ 3, you gotta have a strong military, even if you don't use it. But you have to be willing to lay down the smack if the situation presents itself.

At the least, the AI won't extort you if you have even a minimum military (say a defender/axe on each world and at least 2-3 nice attack ships).

Oh, I'm also using the Galactic Guardians political party from the Library for the first time. Nice combination for invasions and I'll say it really comes in handy. I've taken over 6 billion worlds with just 1 billion trooops. Nice.

Can't wait for the bug to get fixed so's I can put down some booms!
