Greldon and Terl, I'm not so much letting it get to me, as I am looking for someone to take it out on! (Oh, look, there go some Yor!) Gotta go now guys. It's payback time

[Edit: Top of page, taken by a Guardian, for The Guardians! Oh boy, have I been looking forward to saying that!]

Ah, you have figured out what the Yor are best at doing...relieving one of stress as their planets go BOOM in the night

Terl, right you are! Although I'm still trying to figure out how y'all use the various 'sounds'. For example, frequently a Guardian brother will post something to the effect of "popping in, BOOM, popping out." I thought it was related to submitting a new (presumably high-scoring) game to the metaverse.

Do the various 'sounds' have meanings? (I tried to make a joke when I posted my first, low-scoring game, by using pop, but for all I know I'm thinking of it wrong.)

"popping in, BOOM, popping out.

You are right, this was a notice of a game submission. Usually, BOOM meaning a 60k game. Others have plinks, you had pop, and I have had a "feather fall".

The boom I referred to, was that pleasing little sound when a terror star blows up a planet, which is even sweeter when it is a Yor planet.

Terl, gotcha. I can hardly wait to make a 60K BOOM!

Have you checked through the threads in our private forum? Good tips there from our experts.

Dull Thud

Hi Major D! Congrats on your first official score!! Great job! 11k points for your first effort is very good!

Boy, it feels so nice to watch two Yor worlds disappear in a flash of flames and cinder!

Big Hi to the Spymaster! Long time, no see! Of course, you always were hard to spot...

Well, I'd better go make some calls and get the laundry out of the machine...boy, life sure is fun here at home.

Have a great day all!

For Honor and Justice!

P.S. Just in case anybody missed it, we have a Guardians election going on at the private forums...all Guardians are requested to vote at their earliest convenience! http://diplomats.galciv.org/forum/index.php Link

Thanks Theoden! I'm having a blast--both playing the game and hanging out with the Guardians and GalCiv communities!

Funny thing, first time I used a TerrorStar another window popped up (research selection or some such), so I heard the sound but didn't get to see it. Had to blast another planet (darn shame, that ) just so I could see the visuals!

The first time I used one, I about jumped outta my chair. My speakers were quite loud and it startled me.

Yes, blowing up systems is a shame...NOT!

Glad to see you're enjoying yourself! That's the important thing. Don't get too worked up about scores, heck, we're in first place now! Just play for fun!

Okay, really leaving now!

Good job Major D That's an excellent first submission. Now you've got the full game, you will no doubt have questions from time to time - that's what we're all here for.

There are loads of tricks, shortcuts and tactics that aren't fully documented, but someone in the Metaverse will know the answer. I spent about 3 weeks going to every planet to change the rally point before seeing a post that pointed out it could all be done from the planet view side bar. DOH!

Oh, and don't let Terl fool you - he's a bonafide expert himself, just doesn't like to say so

Now I got to go dust some Yor and try to keep pace with Greldon and Loth (some chance).

Sorry Loth, I also got the Prisoner reference but missed the opportune moment for a timely reply Great series, but that last episode was way out there

#6637  by Citizen littlewotts_ - 4/5/2004 2:19:19 PM

I don't even know how to use the rally points. I guess I never knew it was there, either.

The first one feels good, so good You've got your work cut out on 1.2 though as it can only be achieved with a military victory at maso on a gigantic map - took me over 12 hours play time to get that first BOOM. I upgraded to AP straight afterwards, but I had to get the first one on vanilla GC just for the hell of it.

Lothmorg tends to "plink" a lot, but that's just his take on a "boom". Theoden, as you now know, provides us with "dull thuds". It's all very informal really, and just come up with whatever you like

Oh hell, what am I talking about

Me either. I just click and send them all to the same spot and fleet 'em when they are all there. Heck, I don't even use a build queue. I build in the same basic order, I just never bothered figuring out Mr Ford or any of the others. I am not entirely convinced that Mr Ford is not a Yor sympathizer at heart...still questioning him

That was news to me, thanks for the tip. Magnum I started a new game and am trying to win the way you do without any military spending. What a way to learn. I bought the Altarians fleet and it turned out it was 5 sectors away from there home world. By the time I got it back to them they had built another with all the bc I was giving them. So I gamble and buy there new major vessals, go to strike the system and I'm out of range. In future scout things out first. Buy afleet in orbit and in range of me and then Alpha strike. I still think I can win, I just set my self back 50 months or so.

That is what makes this game fun. You can play it completly a different way then you have ever played it before. Its like a brande new game with a completely different strategy.

I do use the build queue, but I find I change what goes in it. For example, I never build and ship improving social projects, but sometimes I don't build anit-matter power plants.

#6643  by Citizen Major Dallas - 4/5/2004 2:41:39 PM

So, I'm guessing that the first medal I'm likely to see is the 5-game winner (presuming that I don't post 5 losses and get my Wounded in Action). Does that sound right?

#6644  by Citizen Magnumaniac - 4/5/2004 2:49:02 PM

Err, yeah! I guess I missed that bit out I generally only buy the ships in orbit (but not colony ships). It's a judgement call, as to how many of their pop you need to take the planet, remembering that every orbiting transport you buy reduces the planet pop by 1 billion.

Always worth buying a starbase or two off them as well, just to ensure your newly acquired ships have the "range" to attack their planets. I find that aspect a little strange, in that a ship can't move 1 square to attack the system it's next to, but can move 3 sectors back towards you

Magnum the other part of the Magnumization process I am trouble figuring out is cultral conquest. The aliens don't ever seem to have any constructors for me to buy. I know the strategy involves a lot of cultural and that requires star bases and constructors. Point me in the right direction on this part of the strategy.

#6647  by Veteran Disciple777 - 4/5/2004 3:24:26 PM

You cannot buy constructors from the AI's, they are converted in Starbases as soon as they build them, you will have to buy the starbases.
