I think this is where I'm supposed to say...BOOM! or something of the sort. |
|
I think the Guardians have reserved Booms for 60,000 point games, but you are doing really well. It looks like you'll spend not long under the Guardian tutelage before you are ready for a real Boom!

GTR, you make whatever noise you care to make! After all, it's your celebration! (And I'm glad to hear the good report on AP. I've been thinking about making that same move--although I must admit I'm primarily motivated by the scores that fellow gamers are turning in w/o having to bump all the way to Gigantic!)

Well worth the investment, I'd say, MD. The 2 new races, which I set at Neutral, changed the dynamics quite a bit, making their isolation and eventual assimilation a different challenge entirely.
I never fought a battle in this game until the very last planet, and didn't lose a single trooper, just played The Prince throughout, and swept up the crushed remains of their squabbles into my benevelontly galactic lap.
I also like the idea of turning off the minors, though I played with them on, as well, the costs for certain SB modules seemed to be a more balanced approach.
And, I'm not sure if this event is in the basic game, or not, but I got a message informing me that one of my system's planets had all increased by 16, as the 5 of them had been 6-8 before, I was quite pleased.

OK, Guardians--here's a new top 10 list for y'all. Enjoy!
Top Ten Misquoted Movies.
10. "Terl, you know how much I love watching you work. But I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder, and the Yor to frame for it. I'm swamped." "Get some rest. If you haven't got your health, you haven't got anything." [The Princess Bride]
9. "It doesn't matter how many Yor I've killed. What matters is how I get along with the Yor who are still alive." [The Whole Nine Yards]
8. "So much death. What can men do against such reckless hate?" "Ride out with me. Ride out and meet them." "For honor and justice." "For the Guardians. For your people." "The Horn of Magnumaniac will sound in the deep, one last time!" [The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers]
7. "Who is Littlewotts?" "Mad'moiselle, you are in Littlewotts'! And Littlewotts is..." "Who is he?" "Well, Littlewotts is the kind of man that... well, if I were a woman, and I were not around, I should be in love with Littlewotts. But what a fool I am talking to a beautiful woman about another man." [Casablanca]
6. "Major Dallas, you've been selected for a mission of the utmost importance." "What mission?" "To Greldonize the Yor." [The Fifth Element] (I know. My ego knows no bounds. )
5. "Voila: the ZF-1. It's light. Handle's adjustable for easy carrying; good for righties and lefties. Breaks down into 4 parts, undetectable by x-ray; ideal for quick, discreet interventions. A word on firepower. Three thousand round clip with bursts of 3 to 300. With the Replay button (another Terran invention) it's even easier. One shot, and Replay sends every following shot to the same location. And to finish the job, all the Terran oldies but goldies. Rocket launcher. Arrow launcher, with explodin' and poisonous gas heads. Very practical. Our famous net launcher. The always efficient flame-thrower. My favorite. And for the Grand Finale, the all-new 'Yor Greldonization System.'" [The Fifth Element]
4. "Of all the gin joints in all the star systems in all the galaxy, she walks into mine." [Casablanca]
3. "Bravely bold Sir Lothmorg the Black rode forth from Camelot. He was not afraid to die, oh brave Sir Lothmorg. He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways, brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Lothmorg. He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp, or to have his eyes gouged out, and his elbows broken. To have his kneecap split, and his body burned away, and his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Lothmorg. His head smashed in and heart cut out, and his liver removed, and his bowels unplugged, and his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off and his..." "That's enough singing for now, Guardians... looks like there's dirty work afoot." [Monty Python and the Holy Grail]
2. "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a Yor." [Gone with the Wind]
1. "My name is Theoden of Rohan, King of the Mark, Commander of the Raven's Claw, General of the Galactic Guardians, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next." [Gladiator]

Hey MC!
Just dropping off my latest plink for the night. (Well, birds are chirping and it's light outside, so I guess it's past night... Uugh).
10 games in 3 days and you have 2 more in you? Mine are still averaging 3 hours.

Hi GH, did the old one more turn trick, ohh no it's morning did you. I've done that a few times before.
I can do a game now in about 1 hr 30, on a large, abundant. Im sure as you play more you will get the time down more. I turn of the GNN reports and follow auto pilot off, that helps drop the time by alot.
Those 10 games ago used to take me about 3 hrs. Just find where you need more efficeny. Try to have the game won just after you hit Jan 2190. Thats what I did.

Just popping in with a BOOM!!, and to let you all know I'll be away all weekend, so go kill some Yor, as I can't!
Excellent stuff Major D.
Hey MC, don't you go knocking me off the first page while I'm away That wouldn't do at all - just you slow down a bit (NOT).
With the progress the other folks are making, I don't think it will be too long before we are able to mount a serious attack on CypherPax's challenge. Excellent stuff everybody. Speak to you all Sunday night!

A variant. Hey, it's only 3am, I can get a quick one in...

Auto pilot is off, and I don't think I've ever had GNN on. This last game, the Altarians were giving me a lot of problems (seems like they are always the troublemakers). They finally got around to building transports, but by the time I could get a SB over to make them "in range", they had declaired war on most of the map and were starting to send the ships out. Well, to make the story short, it took several turns of tricky invading to get them put away. Also, I did confirm that if you save and reload after paying a x bc/99 turn payment, it doesn't go away. I think the game "forgets" who you are paying it to, so you're stuck with it. Fortunatly, it was only 105 bc for me.
Sorry if I'm babling... past my bedtime

Not a problem GH, I do it even when I've had good nights sleep

I've been noticing some good progress in the non-maso ranks too. Athilla has a few nice games in this week. ED has a couple of medium tough games in, and bonscott has his first. GTR is taking on Painful. Major D has a nice score for his first two games. Great going guys!
