I think that this War/tournament should be advertised in front page of our news media.

If only the Diplomats thread was this big. Maybe we should talk over there instead of someone else's thread.

I like that. Lets go and trash our own thread.

The Metaverse Review should be out sometime today. I was just doing a bit of research.

Wow...I just finished reading the series of posts over in the Realms Beyond thread. Though I'm not a fan of reading Sirian's views on how the game should be played, I think his participation here is valuable.

Did you see the little mix up in the clone wars thread? I thought Sirian would be a good addition to this even though, I, too, don't always agree with him.

A redneck joke to lift you up

The Accident

Bubba came visitin' up north, and decided he wanted to go and do something he could never do in South Alabama...

..... SNOW SKIING ......

Unfortunately, before he ever made it UP the hill so's he could *try* and come DOWN the hill on ski's, he was knocked unconscious by the chairlift.

He called his insurance company from the hospital, but they said they were refusing to cover the injury.

"WHAT?!?" yelled Bubba at the phone. "And just why wouldn't you cover an injury like this?" he complained.

"You got hit in the head by a chairlift," Bubba's insurance rep said. "That makes you a moron... and we consider that to be a pre-existing condition."

Yeah...this is sad but not entirely unexpected. I noticed everytime Sirian would make a post he was ticking somebody else off. People who have very strong opinions tend to irritate others. Still, Sirian tried to maintain a level of ethics about playing the game and so I tried to respect him for that.

I don't think that he intends to offend, its just his personality. I am glad that he is willing to join, I consider him good competition, but I am worried about another flame war starting at the wrong time.

#786  by Veteran Theoden of Rohan - 2/19/2004 9:20:41 AM

Yes, a flame war during the Clone War would be disasterous. Probably kill the whole thing.

#787  by Veteran Grand_Admiral_Thrawn - 2/19/2004 9:27:17 AM

Might even be a death knell to the future of the Metaverse.

Lets calm the flames
here a joke from the South

Redneck Jedi

YOU MIGHT BE A REDNECK JEDI IF...

1. You ever heard the phrase, "May the force be with y'all."
2. Your Jedi robe is camouflage.
3. You have ever used your Light Saber to open a bottle of Bud Light.
4. At least one wing of your X-Wing is primer colored.
5. You can easily describe the taste of an Ewok.
6. You have ever had a land-speeder up on blocks in your yard.
7. The worst part of spending time on Dagobah is the dadgum skeeters.
8. Wookies are offended by your B.O.
9. You have ever used the force to get yourself another Bud Light so you didn't miss a NASCAR interview with any of the Allisons.
10. You have ever used the force in conjunction with fishing/bowling.
11. Your father has ever said to you, "Shoot, son, come on over to the dark side ... it'll be a hoot."
12. You have ever had your R-2 unit use its self-defense electro-shock thingy to get the barbecue grill to light.
13. You have a confederate flag painted on the hood of your land-speeder.
14. You ever fantasized about Princess Leah wearing Daisy Duke shorts.
15. You have the doors of your X-Wing welded shut and you have to get in through the window.
16. Although you had to kill him, you kinda thought that Jabba the Hutt had a pretty good handle on how to treat his women.
17. You have a cousin who bears a strong resemblance to Chewbacca.
18. You suggested that they outfit the Millennium Falcon with a redwood deck.
19. You were the only person drinking Jack Daniels during the cantina scene.
20. If you hear: "Luke, I am your father ... and your uncle."
21. If you're wife has to ask you to get the Hyperdrive motivator out of the Bathtub.
22. If when addressing the Jedi Council you use "Bubba" for more than half of them.

I do too and Sirian does raise some valid issues with respect to gameplay and some of the AI mechanics. I have found his posts very straightforward in the statement of his views and acknowledge that some find his comments caustic. I just read them as his opinions.

While I agree there may be AI issues, I would say that those exist in most games and that, once discovered, some players use them. So what? The games are out there for recreation and fun. I say play as you wish, enjoy the game to its fullest.

I just saw it, but it took me all this time to read it...
I've never "talked" to sirian, though I've witnessed (read) some of the discussions. I agree I think it is his style. I know however that sometimes it is hard to kkep one's pacience when reading some things. I think even I could be accused of losing my pacience once, in the environmental thread. I disagree with most of his political viewpoints when stated, but I just ignore them. I do think that his remarks about the game, as well as his AAR are very usefull to new players -- they certainly were for me.

It would be a pity to lose community members with such a knowledge of the game, specially over some virtual (as in "not face to face") discussion. I must say that I am sometimes amazed as things can heat up quicky and suddenly get out of hand in public forums.
