We attack with inaine questions about how they are doing, you know so much pointless stuff their heads just explode. Quite fun.

Good morning, folks!

Sorry I just sort of disappeared yesterday. I got sidetracked and never got back. The interview yesterday went amazingly well! I think I may have a new employer! This company is quite interesting, they have a four-part interview process. First they personally talk to you. The second part is a test, which was apparantly designed to test general aptitude. The third is actually working a day to see if the job is right for me. And the fourth is the most weird. A spousal interview. They want to talk to my wife to see what she thinks and make sure she's on-board!

Well, things are certainly looking up on the home front, so hopefully I'll be back to normal soon.

Congrats to bonscott for making it into the Top 100!!! I love updating the website with new medals!!

Very interesting quotes from Tortuga. First, I don't remember flaming Mario. Maybe I did and just don't remember.

I think Theoden took your thread to mean you were blaming the entirety of there empire and got mad. Although since he's out of a job he tends to get mad easier.

This must have been meant in a different way. Dunno. It's history, anyway so I'm just going to ignore it. We have so many more things to worry about around here. Like all those dang Guardians who are going to pass me in the near future!! You guys are tearing the Metaverse up! Great job!

I'm looking forward to handing out those 10 million point awards!

Well, I'm off to update the website.

Congrats on the job Theoden. I take it your wife didn't mention this place.

Okay, website is updated!

Congrats to bonscott for making Top 100 and Alarac Steele for getting his Top 200 medal!

Great job guys!!! If I missed anybody, please let me know. It's easy for your emperor to miss things sometimes!

Guys i am suffering attack from Arcenians, why? i don't even know! Maybe they're pi*sed off because i bought their combat transports and attacked minor race before they did. That minor race is one sector from all theirs star systems.
Our ralationship is wary, but nothing special to wary about. What they do, their just attack that planet with battleships, no explanations what so ever, help, i need solution!

probably trading with the minors so they got mad cause your threatening there economy, or your powercurve is just starting to match theres which they don't like it when you start to rival them in power

I don't ever remember the AI getting mad for losing economy, else they would get mad by losing planets to culture flip.

But the military one sounds right. If you can jump ahead of them quickly in military power, you should be fine.

Have you cheked the metaverse scoring thread in the Help&Support thread of the Senate Halls? There is an explained real case.

Peace Phoenix, yeah somebody provided me a link to there. Please understand that the problem is not a lack of excellent explanations, it's a lack of understanding! (You know, 'operator error' )

I am hoping/suspecting that things will become much clearer as I see the actual impact of my block change (today, perhaps). Thank you very much--everyone here continues to be SO helpful!

Which reminds, me...

I've been having some difficulty when being miserly with my research spending. What I've been attempting to do (early game only) is spend the least amount necessary to gain each tech. Specifically, when there is 1 month left I will attempt to increase spending (if possible) to get in next month, or (more typically) if the indication is 'next month' I will reduce spending so as not to waste any money. However, more often than not I find that 'a little more' was needed than was apparent. I have taken to saving the game prior to clicking 'next', then if the tech event does not take place I reload (which appears to force a proper recalc), adjust my sliders and go forward. Can anyone recommend a better approach? (Ideally to minimize any waste, to force the recalc, and to avoid a save-and-restore strategy.) Thank you in advance.

I think Sirian designed Sibcat for just that. There is an explantion in the Training Day thread in the main thread, about 2-4 pages back. It should help a lot.

Follow this link http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=146571. Link There is a way to find the good amount of research that have been developped by Realms Beyonds and name SIBCaT. You need to browse the various links provided in this thread to find how it works.

They get nicer to you when your military power goes up. The more they are afraid of you, the more they try to avoid war.

The AI does get very upset with you if you have ships - especially transports - hanging around in a sector next to theirs and they have compairable or better military strength. This will draw the message "I think I'd better deal with you now".

#10266  by Veteran Theoden of Rohan - 5/6/2004 11:36:28 AM

The AI will get upset when you mess with a trading partner, but usually not enough to go to war with you. My guess is you're about equal in military and they want to take you out before you get too big. Sue for peace, send a bunch of freighters their way and start building/buying Combat Transports...when somebody does that to me I usually end up ending their suffering quick!

Hi Evangalist! Good to see you and VoT representing the Diplomatic delegation here in Raven's Claw!

Wow! That's micromanaging! No, it sounds like a good plan. I didn't know that if it said "Next Month" it actually might take a little more, though. That sounds weird. I guess the only way to be sure is to adjust the slider to where you want, then tack on another 1% to be sure.

Also hi to Peace Phoenix, snuck in while I was typing!

Holy Cow! It's 11:30 already!

I've got to go mow the yard and do some other stuff around here.

The last episode of "Friends" is on tonight. I guess there will be no GalCiv until after that goes off!

See everybody later!

#10270  by Citizen _Attila_ - 5/6/2004 12:07:37 PM

Well, i guess i have to say BOOM!! , i dealt with Arcenians diplomaticaly, probably what happened there was some kind of bug, i've downloaded autosave and attacked planet just few turns later, and everything was just fine.
About military thing, i am alwasys the less powerful in the game, i am the trading guy and alfa strike type! get combattranspors and a some attacking power just to take out orbit ships (usually battle axes and colony ships).
After that when everything was calm in that region i researched my TS tech, and guess on whom i did used it on? But i felt pitty for one planet and just invaded it with mini-robots(those which costs 3000bc), They are pretty cool...

And ED! See ya!

Theoden, it's actually often off by 6-8%. I followed the links to track down Sibcat, but it looks like even more micromanagement than what I am currently employing, and probably only worth the effort in the very early game (imo).

Great to hear your most recent interview went well. It would be awesome if you got TWO offers, and had to make a choice! Keep us posted.

Greldon:
I apologize to you all for creating this perception of what is truly a great empire. I’m sorry if I’ve caused any embarrassment to my fellow Guardians.

G, there's no need to apologize for your Empire; I think most of us who stop in here from time to time recognize individuals, not just the nifty badge they wear. And in any community like this, there are going to be people who don't hit it off with each other. Jumping to somebody's defense just because they're a personal friend can be a good thing, but if you go over the top while doing so, you can help to fan the flames.

Being on top gets you attention. SF was there; we lived through a few flame wars. Didn't accomplish a great deal except for making our thread a lot less palatable. It may be satisfying to yell back if you're being yelled at, but it doesn't help the atmosphere much. Your call; your thread; take it for what it's worth. But if y'all follow Theoden's lead and keep disagreements civil, I doubt this sort of thing will be a problem.

Theo, you obscenely good-natured old horseman! Congrats on the progress on the job front, congrats on 10K posts, congrats on first place in the Imperial chase, and congrats for never ONCE flaming on in the - what - 10-11 months you've been here? If you happen to swap emails with Ray, tell him I sent my best wishes.

BOOM! (Rode into the top 50 on the 'crest' of my block change wave.) Woohoo!

Note: My last two games have had incredibly marvelous starts (and yes, I peek)--very near the center of the galaxy, 18-20pq home planet, and 20+pq nearby. But the very best factor has been the proximity of 3+ of the minors who have gotten me off each time to an incredibly fast tech start due to their extreme willingness to trade at 'below-market prices'! (I'd write this up as a 'strategy' if it weren't blind, dumb luck! )
