Nope. Still working on it. I might have to bite the bullet and actually PAY for one of these programs. Bummer too. I don't really want to spend $100, but we're talking about my source code for the last 5 years.

Stupid backups that I never did.

You'd think that losing data periodically for over 20 years would teach you a thing or two about backups.

Sounds like a case of "Do as I say, not as I do!" I have been guilty of it too. At least with the last one, I have an extra HD that I copied stuff over to.

Loth, It does. It teaches you that some else will recover them for you, so you don't have to do it

Loth, Have you tried Partition Magic. Symantec recently purchased them. They have a capability of moving formats betweeen all the microsoft formats for files.

I have an extra HD that I copied stuff over to.

That WAS my spare HD that I copied stuff to. I was just moving it from one system to another. The original got reimaged.

I was thinking about it, but I'm afraid to try it. Right now it registers as FAT12, but is really NTFS. If PM tries to change the partition, it might really screw things up.

Dull Thud

Woohoo!! Finally made it over 800,000 points!!

It was an interesting game. The Arceans gave up again, this time to the Drath. Stupid Arceans. I invaded the Yor and the Korx, then looked around the galaxy and figured I'd take the quick route and get an Alliance. The Torians were the only ones at Neutral, everybody else wanted to snuggle. A few well placed bribes and voilá!

Almost 55k for what I considered a cheap win. Didn't get to kill enough aliens.

Oh well, maybe another game will make me feel better!

Loth are you using FDISK to look at the partitions? I seem to remember that my NTFS drives showed up at FAT12 when doing that.

If PM tries to change the partition, it might really screw things up.

Leave the partition as is and create a new partition and move the data into the new partition. If it can read the old data, it will correctly translate it into the new partition. You can check to see if the data in the new partition is good and it should not have changed any in the old.

OK, have you tried putting it into an NT4 machine (or maybe even 3.51). The earlier incarnations of NTFS may have a better chance.

I seem to remember that my NTFS drives showed up at FAT12 when doing that.

Again, Loth, PM will tell you what the correct format is without you doing anything to the data or the partition.
