If you're not a warmonger, you might want to skip to the next message or else be bored to tears.
My last game (#46*), had numerous firsts for me. Around the early 2190's I had friendly relations with the Yor and on the next turn they declared war on me (from friendly to war in 1 turn?). They said something about taking care of me before I took care of them. I knew I was behind them in every phase of the game. (This was verified a turn or two later when I got a message saying that their combined military and economic rating was 620 to my 60 (10+ to 1 odds against me)). My main ships were Frigates and Battle Hammers to their many Dreadnaughts, Rangers and a few Avatar's. I had researched Dreadnaught but none were yet online. I did have a 3-1 advantage in red cones (weapon resources). I usually leave enough ships in my opponent's owned red cone sectors to destroy them in case of emergency. On the turn they declared war my red cone advantage increased to 3-0 thanks to a strike from a well-placed Battle Hammer.
Another first was that I formed my first alliance (in 46 games) with of all things the Torians (yecch). I had to give the Yor an additional target as I was completely outgunned and outsupplied. The Torian's were allied with the Yor so I was hoping that they would stay on my side and declare war on the Yor. I created the alliance on the same turn that the Yor declared war or else the Torian's would have honored their alliance with the Yor and declared war with me on the next turn. The Torian's were about equal to me militarily so we were both on the wrong end of the barrel, so to speak.
Game #46 was also the first time I had to resort to Terror Stars (yep, first time was in game 46). I took out two systems early and then fought a long and bloody war of attrition until I was ahead of them militarily (nothing like a 3-0 fully developed red cone advantage). I graciously offered them a peace treaty in exhange for some of their techs and a few bcs. The peace lasted long enough for me to maneuver some terror stars into place for a well deserved alpha strike. Someone else could have probably done better with their military solution but I'm best (read "best" as least worst) with a war of attrition and with 10-1 odds I felt I should go with what I know.
I have found the adjustment from a large to huge galaxy to be well, huge. Lately (on large), I used to mostly cruise with just minor bumps until I built Overlords and/or Excaliburs and then mop up the place in many ship-to-ship battles with all planetary invasions. In a huge galaxy, war comes earlier for some reason. It really cuts into my Research, Trade Good and Wonder building race that typifies my early to mid-game.
I'd be interested in hearing other's toughest game to date (esp. the military ones with few cultural flips). I'll be back on July 6th (I'm taking the family to Chicago for the 4th).
Have a good 4th of July!!!
* Game #46 Environment- (Gal Civ v1.20, Huge, Rare, Tight Clusters, All non-military winning conditions off (military is the only available condition), all AIs set to Incredible, AI moralities normal except Arcean's set to Pure Evil, me-Populist (+20 morale, +20 diplomacy), my picks (+50 Research-6 pics, PQ+5-3 pics, HP+10-1 pic), only 1 mod which is the Governor picture enhancement which gives me a great looking Governor (my pick is the blonde eye-candy in the jet black flight suit (yum)).

Anyone else noticed inconsistency in the score aging of inactive players?
Jaws The Wayfarer's score has been sinking like a stone since he stopped submitting (down to 860K from 1,200K), but the scores of Free Tibet, JaxomCA, & Amulek have remained the same.
Free Tibet definitely stopped submitting way before Jaws, so this makes little sense.

Might be a good question to refer to Peace Pheonix.

My predictions/projections for the month of June |
|
Time to see how I did...
.If I play apporx 25 games at my current point level, I should end up with about 640K by the end of the month. |
|
Well, I blew that by a mile. Only 8 games left me at 568k.
That should just be enough to take me past Paguma since he is making retirement noices. There are 8 inactives between me and the top of page, Paguma being the top most. |
|
Paguma promptly played two games after this statement to get up to 660k. Other than that, the count was about right.
I believe that in the course of this month, approx 3 players will overtake me. |
|
Kazz and quiksilverhg for sure, littlewotts and DW have been both ahead and behind, and are both currently ahead. Pretty close.
Therefore, I should wind up around 33rd or 34th for the month if I keep playing at my current rate. |
|
35th at my reduced rate. Not bad...
The current fierce battle at the bottom 6 or 8 places of page one will extend down to include easily all of the top 5 of page 2. |
|
Hmmm, yes and no. The battle is really in the 29 to 36 range with a couple of inactives mixed in, with those fighting for page one early in the month making it there. Of course, the 2 deletions from the top 10 opened up 2 spots as well. Also, the page 2 battle is somewhat subdued from the early June melee.
We will be very close to the point where page 1 costs a minimum of 3/4 of a million points, and the million point club will be at or close to 15 members. |
|
Millioneres club stands at 11, with 12-15 in the 900k range. Again, Loth and Renegade would have extendeded it to 13. Spot 23 held with 780k. Page one would have been 750+ again with Loth and Renegade.
Oh, and the Guardians of Doom will win!Lets see how I do on July 1... |
|
Nice to leave it with a winner!
Well, how did I do? What are your predictions for July?
PS: Please excuse the open quote bug

Yes, I've noticed that some player scores seem to never age or age way less then 5% while a player like Aaberg has dropped well in excess of 100k in a few months. It would seem that more things need to be audited in metaverse than submitted games. How about the former third place medal bug?

I forgot about Aarberg, he's dropped so fast down the rankings. In 2.66 months he's dropped from over 1 million to 808K - a loss of 20% of his score.
| |
|
Usually the activity of the empire caused the player scores to drop, but we have been active so that Amulek's should have decayed. The reason Jaxom's hasn't yet is that he stopped playing so recently, and nobody is active in that empire anyway. Free Tibet by all rationality should have dropped like a rock and she hasn't budged an inch. Something isn't right.

Any body know how to send MD a private email and invite him back to the forum, at least. Sure miss him here in the Galactic Guardian Hall. |
|
His email is on file in the Guardian Halls. Looking through there, I saw a number of former "regulars" at the Claw that are no longer here. GTR, MC, and of course, Greldon and Lothmorg to name a few.
| |
|
Yes, this place has rather died down. I thought that MC had a project he was working on or something. I have no idea about GTR and MD, and shouldn't Greldon be back soon?
