40 PQ planet back and make the game work

That would be nice.

FC, you should be all set at the Embassy.

Boom! Well, I didn't get a 40 PQ planet, but a 38 PQ at the start. The strategy for playing with one planet at this high PQ is really different. You leave the tax slider at 100% for a while but the spend rate has to be down around 4-8% or your expenses quickly overpower you. But, Sol can still put out things in one turn. The other planets all suffer, taking 10 turns to do soil improvement, for example. With this type of game, you want to run both production and research in parallel since production and research procede at a normal rate (for Earth). You can research twice as much actually in a half hour. The game took about 35 minuts and everyone was at "close" almost a year before 2190. Had several wars that were averted, except for losing my exploration ship, Hero, but haveing all the other AIs go to war with the one that started war with me. He soon sued for peace.

Strange game. I will go write down the options that I selected with the Reserach, Inc political party. Maybe some of you can experience a starting 40 PQ planet (it is not PQ when you start, but when you have finished all the setup).

OK, here is the options I chose:
Influence: +10
Diplomacy: +60
Planet Quality: +5
Luck: +25

Research, Inc. gives the following:
Diplomacy: +60
Morale: +25
Research: +50
Social: +50
Economy: +40
pw: +5 (not certain what this is, but I think it is PQ)
Luck: +75

My conclusion is that Luck is what gives me the high PQ planets as the PQ +10 only gives a 10% increase.

BOOM All have to give it a shot Weyr.

#17254  by Citizen Evil Druid - 10/15/2004 8:59:09 PM

Okay cntrl N 20 times and I got 1 22 and that was the highest. Version problem maybe.

#17255  by Citizen Weyrleader - 10/15/2004 9:00:58 PM

No, the planet I started with was PQ 20. After I set the sliders was when it suddenly becamse PQ 38, befor hitting the turn button. But, there may be a version difference as well.

#17256  by Citizen Evil Druid - 10/15/2004 9:11:40 PM

Oh, I was looking for a 30 to start. Well I'll start and see what happens.

#17257  by Citizen littlewotts - 10/15/2004 9:36:22 PM

I use those same settings Weyr.

#17258  by Citizen Evil Druid - 10/15/2004 10:11:41 PM

Ever get a 38PQ LW. I think we got another cold fusion discovery. I was about as lucky as newfies 3 day old cod at seagull convention that game. Never even got a colonization event. Weyr you got a buggy game is my feeling. Now if you could just figure out how and send me that bug.

Forgot boom

#17260  by Citizen Weyrleader - 10/15/2004 10:14:30 PM

BOOM! Started out with a PQ 20 and before turn 1 it was a PQ 38. It was the only planet I had until one of the minors two secors away defected to my PQ50+ influence. I don't know what I am doing, but I love now that I know how to play such a high PQ planet.

#17261  by Citizen Chipperoo - 10/15/2004 11:00:30 PM

That is astonishing! The only time I've seen I really high PQ was a 36 (starting value)a couple of times. I think ED is right, you've got a hot copy. Get your but in the lab and sequester one of the LW's to have that copy cloned and dipersed to the rest of the GG!!!

#17262  by Citizen Evil Druid - 10/15/2004 11:01:48 PM

BOOM Once again could not replicate your experiment in my lab using your setting.

#17263  by Diplomat Peace Phoenix - 10/15/2004 11:02:18 PM

No, the planet I started with was PQ 20.

That is normal. With PQ +5 from picks and PQ +5 from party, you have an pire wide PQ bonus of 10. Which means that base PQ for Earth was 19.

After I set the sliders was when it suddenly became PQ 38, befor hitting the turn button

I haven't heard of such thing before. It really smells like a bug, having +100% PQ bonus in turn 1.
Could you check, the next time, the empire wide PQ bonus and the planetary PQ bonus when this kind of thing happen.

The only thing that could make sense is triggereing the precursor event that change the base PQ to 35. In this case, 35 + 10% => 38, which is the PQ you have experienced.

#17264  by Diplomat Peace Phoenix - 10/15/2004 11:08:10 PM

The only time I've seen I really high PQ was a 36 (starting value)

Are you sure it is 36 and not 26. The max base PQ for uncolonized planet not triggered by an event (+X PQ to surounding uncolonized planets) I have seen is 26.

#17265  by Citizen Chipperoo - 10/15/2004 11:13:16 PM

Yes, I'm sure. I remember it well because this was right after I heard of the PQ40+ anamolous flag, and I was really be careful of what I built there, and empire wide.

#17266  by Citizen littlewotts - 10/15/2004 11:27:32 PM

I don't think the +10PQ from the picks affects your base planet.

#17267  by Citizen littlewotts - 10/15/2004 11:38:07 PM

Also, I was not able to duplicate the event.

With Research Inc. I start with:

Research +20%
Diplomacy +60%
PQ +5%

#17269  by Citizen Chipperoo - 10/15/2004 11:58:14 PM

FYI, there are 4,523 players with scores on the Meta. The lowest score (1) is shared by several players. Rank 4,523 was a loss at cakewalk. I sure wish there was a way to let non-aligned players know about empires.

Boom! didn't break 1M with game 80, oh well.

#17273  by Diplomat Peace Phoenix - 10/16/2004 12:26:12 AM

I don't think the +10PQ from the picks affects your base planet.

What do you mean? I am pretty sure that Earth (without any PQ bonus) range from 15 to 20. When you have 10% PQ bonus, you can get a class 22 Earth. But it is PQ 20 + 10% since you are already on it.

I've gotten PQ22 planets with out using mods.
