I've gotten PQ22 planets with out using mods.

For a starting Earth? I doubt.
But it is possible after one of the events that increase base PQ.

I'll check my vanilla GC and ctrl-n until I do to be sure. It doesn't have any mods installed.

BWAHAHAHAAA!!! I've solved the clone issue. Although, sadly, I'm it.

PP has suggested that the +35 PQ bonus was triggered. That is possible, but there was no announcement of such an event, but perhaps it can be triggered before turn 1, don't know.

The galaxy wide statistic on PQ after the turn 1 was only 12 oe 15, I don't remember exactly, but I did check to see if there were any anomolies triggered. I don't think any were since I often end up with PQ of up to 25 or higher for the abilities statistic.

I need to work on a proposal this weekend, but I will try to get in a game before I go to work. Will let you know if it happens again, but so far it has happened at least 5 time.

LW, how did you eliminate your clone?

#17283  by Citizen Weyrleader - 10/16/2004 6:08:22 AM

Since LW elminated himself, we have dropped back to 18+ Million points in the Meta. Still a good score, but now we get to pass 19M twice!

Ok, I just have to report this before I go further in this game. I started out with an Earth of PQ 22. Before I had even adjusted the sliders, Earth had shifted to PQ 40. Sometime after turn1 Earth turned to PQ 38, not sure when it was but within the first 10 turns, I think. Turned to PQ 40 after soil enhancement completed. Have to run tax at 100% and spend rate at 7%. Obviously eventually loose control of the senate but better that then huge deficit spending. I also have 4 other planets, which is where the expense come from. If I only had Earth, this would not be a problem. Trade brings me back to better balance.

#17285  by Citizen Weyrleader - 10/16/2004 7:44:14 AM

BOOM! That was a roller coster ride in terms of economics. These high PQ planets really screw up my standard strategy and force me into adhocism (is that a word?)

Thank you LW for controling yourself (or your clone...). I am back on page 1 - WOO HOO!

Could someone explain this metaverse scoring thing to me? I have submitted three games in three days: 1st game approx 8500 pts beginner/huge map/culture victory, 2nd game approx 8700 pts normal/huge/alliance victory, 3rd game approx 11300 pts normal/gigantic/alliance victory. I have browsed through some of the scoring threads but can't wrap my brain around it yet. Now it shows my score to be in the 17000 range. It dosen't work out as an average either? I did move up about 900 places in the rankings but it would seem I only passed people who do not play any more.?. Thanks for the help!

Peace Pheonix is the expert Fuels Chief. Here's a link to one of his detailed explanations. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?id=186632&BID=GF&page=1#186783 Link

He understands it. To the rest of its known as the mystery of the Meta.

FC, the score for the first 30 days is simple. Take the sum of the raw scores of the games played and divide by the square root of the game played. So, if you and 8676+8588+11318=28582.
Divide by SqRt of 3 = 16501, which is close to the 16502 the Metavers says you have. The one point difference may be to round off or other mysteries not yet fathomed in the Metaverse.

FC, by the way, your scores are great first scores. Look at the history of some of us and you will see we started out with scores in the hundreds.

AAAAhhhhhhhh, That simple huh. Math never was my strong point. I'll check out the link though.

To be honest, I know the formula, understand the maths behind and have a nice Excel spreadsheet (in French) that allows me to simulate score.

Have to run tax at 100% and spend rate at 7%.

High tax rate is rarely a good choice if morale prevent planets to grow. My rule of thumb is having the higher taxes rate that allows me to keep max pop growth (= 100% morale at the beginning of the game).

More, there is a huge drop in production when morale falls below 25%. And planet starts loosing population below 50% morale.

#17297  by Citizen Evil Druid - 10/16/2004 6:04:46 PM

BOOM Peace he had 100% morale on earth even with the 100 tax rate.

I read through Peaces's scoring synopisis and see that steady submission rate is one of the most important aspects of the game. I don't have AP... yet but it appears your scores tend to be higher when submitting a game played with the AP version. As far as dificulty levels go, am I correct in assuming the the higher the diffuculty level and the larger the map, the higher your final score will be? Would a normal diffuculty on gigantic earn more points than a normal game on small? Do you get points based on what type of victory you get; military, technology, alliance? Also, do you get more points buy having more techs? Example: In the last game I played I had enough money, tech, trade goods, and ships to bribe the remaining three races into an alliance thus givig me the victory. My score was my highest yet approx 12500 (challenging/gigantic/unbalanced). Would I have gotten more points if I had increased my spending on research to 100% and waited another 20 turns before making the alliance and taking victory? I had already bribed everyone into loving me even though I had the second weakest military? Or does all I just wrote not matter and it is only based on diffuculty level and size of the map. One last opinion from the masses if you wold... I prefer to start out in a corner of the map instead of in the center. That way I don't have to worry about 5 screaming mad alien races coming after me in the begining of the game. Where did you guys prefer to start of when you began playing?

#17299  by Citizen Chipperoo - 10/16/2004 9:36:15 PM

Well, that is an interesting question. I like to play a quick game right now ~1-1.5 hours. I play Research Inc. as my political party with +60% diplomacy, +20% research, and +20% planet quality. I play masochistic/gigantic/rare/tight clusters, and go for an alliance victory in Jan. 2190 or later (before then will cut the score in half)>

Because I want a quick victory, I need to be located as close to the center as possible. This is for two reasons. #1 I need to be able to meet all the races in order to make them ally with me, and #2 because I want lots of trade as soon as possible. I usually have 3 to 5 planets, seldom more than 7. I never build military ships (constructors and freighters only. I find that the alien AI will tend to send their initial freighters to the center of the galaxy so I usually have multiple alien initiated routes established before my own freighters arrive at destinations. Obviously I have to micro manage the spending sliders in the first few years to balance income with spending and tax rate with morale.

Boy that was a bit more detailed than I had planned, but there you go!
