Maybe it's because I am still playing at the lower levels. Hopefully I can move up another level by the weekend. My games still take a while and I don't like playing and then loosing. Although even in the loosing the game is still fun

Don't be in to big a rush. Maso tends to make you play formula to win. You got way more options at the lower levels.

I played either the sneaky diplos or the research inc toward the last few games (Don't remember which, but they were both along the same lines). I still got military victories. It just takes planning. Basically, you have 2 choices. Buy ALL of the AI's ships other than colony and freighters just before you attack, or use the Terror Stars. Since that was the strategy I was already using, the negative military didn't hurt me much, as long as I didn't make a mistake. However, fighting the space sharks sucked!

I play Research Inc., and I KNOW that if you want to go with a military win you can!!! The only caveat is that it pretty much demands that you get all the military resources (the red cones). Once you have these, the negative impacts are counteracted (depending on the size galaxy you play, since this dictates how many resources are available).
One of my favorite tactics is to build fleets of 100+ combat transports and ~25 to 30 overlords and excaliburs, then go system grabbing. (I never invade unless I have overwhelming force) Also, using AMM's in your fleet is great for clearing out any stubborn fools that wont leave orbit.
Summary: Using Research Inc. does NOT inhibit you from claiming a military victory, as Hank said "It just requires planning".

I have been getting military victories often enough and with research inc. Using the stacked ship tactic has been working fairly well. Seems if you put enough ships in a stack you can beet just about anything. I rarely go past the Ranger ship in researh. Since I moved from a corner to the middle of the map as a preferd start place it seems a little eaiser. I am still trying to figure out the economics so I can pay for the star base additions at a quicker rate. Thanks for the info guys.

Roy : Master ?
Tech : Yes Roy ?
Roy : I am worried if IBH gets you what will happen to me ?
Tech :Stupid calculator why should I care less what happens to you ?
I care for my TV more than you; should I worry that the TV has nobody to look after it ?
What is your purpose Roy ?
Roy : To serve Master cold beer.
Tech : Correct now it is too early in the day for a beer just shut up and let me hide from IBH, beside so far the Guardians are demoing the meaning of the word Guard in their name.
Roy : OK Master I will check if IBH catches you latter.
Tech : Roy drop by the lab, I got to see if I can retro fit you to add a 90inch HD TV, DVD player and a 6.1 receiver.

Where did I place that old RoyGun that Weyr gave me. I'll show him what his purpose is.

I am wondering if Tech hasn't infected Guardians with Yor virus to ensure that they will protect him ...

Have you tried the vaporize mode yet? Need to be careful at that setting as it tends to warp the barrel.

Well, as you can see, it doesn't work to well. Hey Newfy, you need to make better use of Weyr's lab if you want that virus to work.

He must have lost his memory, as he forgot to check. His master is being help prisoner over in the IBH jail until someone unneutralizes him (I wonder if that is the same as neuter and unneuter?)
