I am not a fan of those points Peace. The nature of these forums is such that several hours could go by with no posts. I think that
Then adter beed targeted and aquired that a member of targets empire had 10 min to defend...then the target gets killed if undefended for 10 min |
|
these points just add complexity.

Desert Fox, are you still having problems with your game on challenging or harder skill level?
If so here is a walk through based on Tiny/Small and Normal AI
Spoiler? Lots of hints and a basic walkthru
Map size: Tiny/rare/tight
Game difficulty - Cakewalk up to Painful (not crippling or maso)
This variation will work for you on most map sizes but for me the smaller the map the better.
Above I show RARE/Tight but that is just for a quicker game. I do not think that it affects the points too much. I personally like lots of planets when playing this type of game.
My favourite setting for this type of game would be normal AI.
Total domination due to bullying and bankruptcy
For starting picks I like social building, morale, research, military building,
On a tiny map it does not matter where you start. When playing RARE you rarely get more than one planet.
Ok first, the ground rules to play by
(1) The minors are your friends. They are the only ones that you have trade-routes with. Never send trade-routes to the Alexians because they will be flipped or invaded too quickly.
(2) You need to find all the AI as quickly as possible. Cheese tactic - save the game, then turn cheats on and use cntrl-u. find the AI. Reload the game and send the survey ship to each AI using the shortest route.
(3) You are the Emperor of the Universe, the rest of the AI just doesn't know it yet. But they will soon.
(4) Diplomacy is for wimps. Don't use it.
(5) All AI are yours to fleece and invade at will.
Starting your game
Part 1
Send the survey ship to find all the AI. Do not pick up anomalies unless they are in your path. EXCEPTION: if you see a rock go for it. Hope to get a corvette or a star fighter. Anything else sell it ASAP.
Set your slider to 100% spending, and set tax rate to the point where anymore tax causes morale to drop below 100%.
Set Research slider so that your research objectives are happening in 1 or 3 months. The social building slider should have the rest. The military slider is not used yet and should be zero.
Follow the research / build patterns shown below. As soon as you get Basic Environmental Control researched switch the social building slider to 60% and the research to 40%
Research in this order:
Communication
Universal translator
Diplomacy
Industrial theory
Medical theory
basic environment control
nano electronics
Nano freq electronics
Build your social buildings in this order.
Soil Enhancement
Banking
Manufacturing center
Habitat
Fusion power plant
Entertainment
After finishing Entertainment build the following trade-goods:
Diplomatic Translators
Gravity Accelerators
anything trade good that can help with morale.
Part 2 a
As you are researching your heart out trade the AI for anything that you do not have except disrupters and ship techs. Here you can trade your techs for AI techs + cash. You always try to get cash out them. example 10BC for 5 turns.
You selling your techs to the AI for Cash if they have no techs that you need. You want to have long payments such as selling basic environmental control for 15Bc for 10 months.
You sell to all the AI at the same time including the minors.
Never ever sell any diplo techs to the AI. Your diplo bonus is your advantage when trading and selling.
Part 2 b
Attack Phase
Remember your survey ship, during its mission to find the AI if it came across any rocks containing corvettes of star fighters you should now move them to the MAJOR AI closest to your planet.
One other thing, the anomalies are yours so you should destroy any survey ship that you came across. On a large map you will find that your survey ship may be the strongest ship you have in your fleet due to all the upgrades it picks up.
Start attacking anything they build. Try and build your ships experience by allowing it to repair when required.
If required build another corvette or 2 but no more. Keep harassing that AI. If it begs you to stop then demand money/techs. If it doesn't pay keep attacking. If it pays start attacking that AI the next turn.
While you are trading techs for techs you should now be concentrating on getting to Interstellar tactics. Once you have this build the frigate. Once I get Interstellar tactics all trading / selling of techs stops. I do not trade this tech. Now concentrate on all ship upgrade techs and research them.
Set your military to 40%, your research to 40%, if you are still building social then that gets 20%. If you are not building social set your research to 60%.
Start pumping out frigates and a few transports. Take over that closest AI. Send some frigates to the next AI or even 2 AIS and start beating them into submission.
Remember to send your frigates back for repair as often as required.
Now you should start collection starbase resources. Only upgrade your military resources to give a better attack value.
If you are attacking an AI that has a military resource you should either try to buy it from them or destroy it before you declare war. No sense in letting the AI have any extra bonus.
Some time during all this you will need to take over the Alexians. Do not let them fall to another AI. This is your planet to get not anyone Else's.
At this point you should still be building frigates and transports. Your experienced Frigates should be around level 7. You will see that they are quite abit tougher that a new unexperienced frigate.
You should always be checking to see what techs an AI has research even though you are not trading with them.
Be on the lookout for an AI that develops Battleships. Check Minors and Majors. As soon as you see an AI with battleship tech send your fleets to that AI and take him over. Even if they are lucky to get one or 2 battle ships your experienced frigates will destroy them.
If you are lucky when you invade you will get the battleship tech. If you do not get it don't worry about it.
At this point you will find that you are basically an unstoppable force cruising through the galaxy.
The only worry you will now have is this, do you take over the Carniods (your trading partner) or leave them alone.
I like to wipe all AI out so I take em out. This minor AI might end up being your toughest opponent because he has benefited from your trade-routes.
You should not worry about losing all your trade-routes at this point because you are the dominant force in the galaxy. Just adjust your spending slider to compensate.
Part 3
During your attack phase keep an eye on your morale and build only the morale social buildings on planets that require a morale boost.
You should try and trade or buy any trade-goods that you have missed. Trade-goods will help you out quite a bit.
If another minor appears it might be prudent to switch all your trade-routes to that minor. Then surround that minor with 9 freighters so that other AI can't trade or attack him.
you might find that you never need a more powerful ship than that of a frigate to win the game.
If the 5 year UN voting happens always vote yes to protecting the freighters unless your freighters are away from enemy lines then vote no and attack the AI freighters.
Whenever an AI asks for Peace grant it to them for a price of techs or cash and then attack them again next turn. Do not let them get set. if they have no cash demand planets or keep fighting. For this type of game never bother with demanding influence as it is pretty much worthless.
Game Over
The game on a tiny map should take an experienced player about 60 - 90 minutes.
Random Thoughts
If this is the type of game that you like to play it gets tougher as the maps get bigger but it is no less fun.

I appreciate it a lot! With my addiction for this game I want to try many different strategies to get my score up there. I feel like such a young rookie compared to all of you it humbles me you offering help. |
|
Just doing my bit to help out the new guys. This strategy should work fine. I suggest that you try it out on a small map and the AI set to Normal or less. I hope that you will be surprised at how easy it can be.

I moved up in the ranks from 600-271 not to shabby! |
|
That is strange. Is the moving up from 600 to 271 done only on the last submission?
| |
|
|
Because I have simulated your metaverse score:
- submission on 07/17/04 => 17 556 Mpts => rank 1062
- submission on 09/12/04 => 28 391 Mpts => rank 665
- submission on 09/20/04 => 33 374 Mpts => rank 570
- submission on 10/10/04 => 40 547 Mpts => rank 448
- submission on 10/13/04 => 54 288 Mpts => rank 330
- submission on 10/21/04 => 63 734 Mpts => rank 271
