Does that mean we should kill you since he was evil; and because if you are him and he is dead...

Just call me Caligula....

If that is true, you had better keep on eye on Aaberg...

Advice for aspiring Roman Emperors: if you want to get rid of a general, kill him yourself. Don't just demote him and sell him off as a slave, or he could come back to bite you in the rear

With the Romans no one really knows - given habits at that time he could be your father and your cousins, grandfathers daughter in law for all we know

He keeps on trying to eat me

#360  by Citizen Primus Ordines Aaberg - 2/23/2004 2:17:34 PM

If he was trying to recuite you, that would make a lot more sense, hmm

#361  by Citizen Exar Kuun - 2/23/2004 2:20:31 PM

Yesterday he tried to eat me, gave me a big sloppy kiss and told me he would be back for me later. I spent the entire night locked in my room cowering in fear

ANNOUNCEMENT

In the interests of building comraderie, boosting trash-talk, and building up next month's competition with some real performance behind the talk, I would like to propose a Pre-Clone War Sucession Game. This SG would pit teams from each of the alliances against each other using the same map, same settings. Bragging rights would go to the team who most clearly dominated the AI competition (we could use meta score, but that's too cut and dry. We want the opportunity for some controversy here! ).

Here is what I propose

Version: GalCiv Standard 1.2
Difficulty: Maso (all intelligent AI, standard alignments)
Galaxy Parameters: small, tight, occasional
Political Party: Federalists
Bonus Picks: influence, sensors, morale, weapons, and trade (distribution tbd)

Variant Rules: None

Teams:

1) Special Forces/Jedi Republic/G.R.O.S.S.
2) Fellowship of the Ring/Galactic Guardians/Diplomats
3) Aldarian Empire/Realms Beyond/ANZAC Imperium
4) Mid-Western Confederation/European Alliance/Canadian Star Federation

Potential Team: Evil Empire/Centurions/Star Fleet

If folks are interested, I can have this one up an running in a day. This map size can play out very quickly, so the teams should be able to play out the games and compare performances prior to the start of the First Clone War in a week's time.

The only hard rule in this game would be NO SPOILERS. No specific details about your game where other teams could read it, and no reading of other teams' threads, until your game is completed. That would apply to intelligence gathering by other members of your alliance as well. This would make for a fair comparison. Obviously, this would be an honor-based system.

What say you, alliances? Are you ready to test your mettle with your soon-to-be allies side-by-side, or will you only support your alliance all alone in the safety of your own submissions?

P.S. If there were enough interest, I could easily set up another series of games at another level.

END ANNOUNCEMENT

1) Special Forces/Jedi Republic/G.R.O.S.S.

I am interested but I have V1.13 and won't be upgrading in the near future so that puts me out

I think it is a great idea.

Exar, why not 1.20 ?

Here is a special appeal to the generosity of the metaverse....

Jedi Aid is launching an emergency appeal for money to help Exar Kuun at Coruscant facing a looming famine.

The Metaverse charity warns the situation is now critical with acute Beer shortages across the system.

The Metaverse World Food Programme also says more than 12 million people are running the risk of sobriety.

Jedi Aid is presenting a report to the Metaverses World Food Summit at Coruscant, criticising KitWarrior activity for creating beer shortages.

The report will say that where agricultural policy in Coruscant is driven by the market and free trade it results in people having to sober up to work.

Cash raised by the latest appeal will buy hops and a brewery for Exar Kuun of Coruscant to grow a crop of Barley and produce beer for an emergency beer festival.

"This situation is critical and is likely to get much worse as people's beer stocks totally run out," said a Jedi Aid spokesman.

Remember two pounds will buy Exar a beer at lunchtime, two millions pounds will buy him a brewery, a Barley farm and beer for life. Please give generously.

Exar, why not 1.20 ?

The AI doesn't seem to be as good in my opinion, it builds double starbases everywhere and bankrupts itself

But the orbiting colony ship bug is gone, as well as trading alignment-specific techs to races of any alignment. I haven't played enough to speak definitively on the 1.2 game balance vs. 1.13.

Raincheck also - I'm still at 1.12 because I didn't like the UP CTD in 1.13 (yes, I know there's a fix but I didn't like that either!) and 1.12 has been rock solid for me. After the tournament I've promised myself to go 1.20/AP barring extreme bugs...and perhaps abandon my evil, wicked point scoring ways ...I may undertake a religious retreat...could even qualify for RB membership ...I.O.U. participation in an SG after April 1st!

Aye--seems that there is a little fringe interest in this one.

Very well--I can only twist arms so far. I did not realize so many have not patched to 1.2.

I'll take you up on the that raincheck, Wombat. I've got plenty of ideas for SGs--and that's just the offbeat ones. There will also be lots of straight-up games. If not, we will likely hear from one of our old RB vets, Carbon Copy, who has been often heard to say, "What's with all this variant crap?"

In the meantime, check out the next wave of silliness we've cooked up over at RB. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=141922 Link

#371  by Citizen Bam_Bam - 2/23/2004 10:18:42 PM

Evil Steve,

Basically a group of blokes take turns playing a single game. We've been handing off the game after every 12 turns (one year)--others have picked longer. Check out the link above, which has other links to our last few games. It's a concept we migrated from Civ3.
